Using What if Analysis Goal Seek in Excel 2016

04:35
This tutorial shows how to use Goal Seek, a tool that is found under the "What if Analysis command." The tool allows you to calculate the value you need to obtain a desired result. If a student wants to know what grade he needs to get on the third exam to achieve an 80 average, this is the tool to use! Of course the tool can be used in any situation where you have a calculated formula and you want to play with the numbers to see how to get to a desired end result. For example, how many units need to be sold in order to break even. Enjoy!

Is the world getting better or worse? A look at the numbers | Steven Pinker

18:33
Was 2017 really the "worst year ever," as some would have us believe? In his analysis of recent data on homicide, war, poverty, pollution and more, psychologist Steven Pinker finds that we're doing better now in every one of them when compared with 30 years ago. But progress isn't inevitable, and it doesn't mean everything gets better for everyone all the time, Pinker says. Instead, progress is problem-solving, and we should look at things like climate change and nuclear war as problems to be solved, not apocalypses in waiting. "We will never have a perfect world, and it would be dangerous to seek one," he says. "But there's no limit to the betterments we can attain if we continue to apply knowledge to enhance human flourishing." Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios. About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. Excel Magic Trick 967: Formula To Extract Top 5 Numbers & Names, Including Ties or Duplicates

17:34
Download Excel File: http://people.highline.edu/mgirvin/ExcelIsFun.htm Concepts: 1. This video is great to learn how to use a formula to extract top 5 numbers (revenues, sales, units or sports scores) and the associated names (Sales Representatives, Employees or Athlete Names) including the situation when there are ties or duplicates in the numbers. 2. What to do when VLOOKUP can't do a lookup for duplicate values or ties and it is not possible to do a concatenated helper column; meaning there are not two lookup values, but instead just one lookup value (number value from LARGE). In this Video: 1. SMALL Function Example: for Excel 2007 or earlier array formula with the functions: LARGE, COUNTIF, IF, ROWS, INDEX, SMALL and ROW. Also see: array operations, comparative operators, join symbol ampersand, and expandable ranges. 2. AGGREGATE Function Example: Excel 2010 or 2013 array formula with the functions: LARGE, COUNTIF, IF, ROWS, INDEX, AGGREGATE and ROW. Also see: array operations, comparative operators, join symbol ampersand, syntax for show nothing or empty cell or null text string and expandable ranges. 3. How Come VLOOKUP will not work 4. Find Hurdle Value for Top 5 using LARGE function 5. Count how many values should be extracted using COUNTIF function, comparative operator and Ampersand (join symbol)

Excel Solver example and step-by-step explanation

09:57
Excel’s Solver tool is an optimization package. It finds the optimal solution to a problem by changing multiple variables. Download the workbook here: http://www.xelplus.com/excel-solver-example It can solve for more complex “what-if-analysis” which Goal Seek can’t. Goal seek is restricted to changing one variable, whereas with solver you can have many variables. Calling Solver an “advanced goal seek” doesn’t do it any justice. Solver can handle complex data models and solve for the optimal solution. But; it can also easily solve for the more simpler problems that we might face at work. In this video, I show you two examples: 1 - How to set income to a specific value by changing prices which adding constraints for the price and also full rounded number for units sold. 2. Distribute the remaining budget dollars among your different projects based on certain cost constraints. Ep 112: Trading Stocks by the Numbers (Statistical Probabilities + Options)

39:17
Ep 112 - Trading Stocks by the Numbers (Statistical Probabilities + Options) ★ SUMMARY ★ In today’s video, we’re going to talk about trading stocks by the numbers, as we look at statistical probabilities and options. When looking and evaluating any stock chart, you need to evaluate the chances of something happening. In the day to day world, the chances of something happening is not that difficult to really understand. However, in the stock market, things are a little bit more complicated when it comes to statistical probabilities, especially if you don’t know about how the market and prices work. When it comes to evaluating the probabilities in the stock market, the first question you want to ask is: is the stock over extended? Either to the upside or to the downside. If it is, then it’s not in your favor to go into that extension. If it’s over extended to the downside, it is a bad idea to go short, and if it is overextended to the upside, it’s a bad idea to go long. This happens because of the rubber band effect. If stock market prices go up a little too high, and you start to see that things are getting stretched, there is a high probability that eventually they’ll snap back down, and the stock will pull back. The same thing, if they go down a little bit too much, eventually they’ll snap back up. Sometimes things can work out differently, if after a break to the upside or downside, you have some sideways consolidation or sideways action, this can help ease the pain, and build momentum for the stock to continue moving in the same direction, rather than snap back. But remember, the more stretched a stock is, either down or up, the bigger the snap back will be. That’s why in general 90% of traders are wrong, because they see the sell-off happening, and they think that the stock is going down. That’s when they decide to go short, and then, all of a sudden it reverses, meaning that they were wrong, then they get out of the position and they lose a lot of money. The second question you need to ask is: what patterns do you have in the stock chart? Is it an ABCD pattern, or a triangle pattern? The more patterns you learn to recognize, the more accurate you’ll be at predicting stock movement. Then, ask yourself: Does volume confirm the move? Is the movement being consolidated by the volume? If you have way more volume to the downside than to the upside, more than likely the stock will continue going down, and vice versa. And then you look at other factors, for example, the health of the market. Is the market also moving up with your stock? If your stock is moving higher, but the market is moving lower, then one less thing is in our favor. Another thing to look at is fundamental analysis, and so on and so forth. These are some factors that you need to consider when looking at statistical probabilities, and the more factors you have in your favor, the better. And that helps increase your statistical probabilities of making the right decision. My name is Emma, and in today's video, I am going to talk a lot about the IELTS test, specifically writing task one. I'm going to teach you about a certain thing you might see on the IELTS, and that's a pie chart. I'm going to explain what a pie chart is, and ways to talk about pie charts in order to improve your vocabulary mark for the IELTS. Many students get really, really confused when they see graphs on the IELTS, and they get really confused trying to talk about numbers, specifically. So, in this video, I'm also going to talk about: How do we describe numbers when we're looking at pie charts? How do we describe percentages? You know, and how can we make our vocabulary very varied? Okay? So, let's get started. The first thing I want to do is talk about: What is a pie chart? So, I have here three different types of graphs. Three different graphs you might see on the IELTS, in the writing section, in the very first part of the writing section. Okay? You might see a picture like this, like this, or like this. So, one of these looks like a pie, something you eat. Which one do you think looks the most like pie? If you said this one, you are correct. This is what we are going to be talking about today. We can call it either a "pie chart" or a "pie graph". Both are correct. You might also see this one, this one is called a line graph; or you might see this, which is called a bar graph. So, let me write that on the board. So, "pie chart", "line graph", and "bar graph". You might also see a process, a diagram, or maybe even a table on the IELTS. But for today, we are only going to be focusing on pie charts. Okay, so what is a pie chart? A pie chart shows us percentages. Okay? So, if we look down here, I have here what I spend my money on. Okay? I want you to imagine each month, all the money I make, all my salary, this is what I spend it on. I spend some of it on rent, I spend some of it on food, I spend some of it on transport or transportation, and I spend some of it on fun. Okay? So, on the IELTS, you might have to describe something like this. It might be more complicated. Sometimes you might actually have two pie graphs or pie charts that you might have to compare and describe, but in this case, let's start out a little bit easier. So, I want you to imagine you're writing the IELTS, and you've been told to describe this pie chart. What are you going to say about it? Okay? Well, the very first thing you should do is you should think about: What does it all mean? And by that, I mean: Think about how much percent is each thing? Okay? So, for example, for cost of living, how much is this? What size does this look like? Although we can't be sure, because I'm not the best artist and this is not a perfect circle, I would say this is about 50%. Okay? And this, what does it look like to you? Maybe 25%. So, food is around 25%. Transport we might say... Let's say 15%. And fun, maybe 10%. Although, we're not sure. So, on the IELTS you might see something like this. You might actually have the percentages written, so you already know what it is, or you might actually have numbers. Okay? So, this might actually be money, and so it might actually say, like, $500 to rent, $200 to food, and so forth. Okay, but the first thing to do is really think about: What are the percentages, here? Okay, so to begin a sentence when we're talking about the pie chart, these are three different sentences that are very great... Really, really good sentences to use on the IELTS when you're talking about pie graphs. The first one is: "According to the chart", you can also say: "We can see from the chart", or "We can see from the pie chart", "The chart shows that", okay? So these are good ways to open up the sentence, and then to actually talk about what you see here.

Understanding the Riemann hypothesis requires understanding a certain function which is famously confusing outside its "domain of convergence", but a certain visualization sheds light on how it extends. There are posters for this visualization of the zeta function at http://3b1b.co/store Thank you to everyone supporting on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/3blue1brown Music by Vince Rubinetti: https://soundcloud.com/vincerubinetti/riemann-zeta-function Check out some of Vince's other work here: http://www.vincentrubinetti.com/ For those who want to learn more about complex exponentiation, here are a few resources: - My video on the topic: http://youtu.be/mvmuCPvRoWQ - Mathologer's: https://youtu.be/-dhHrg-KbJ0 - Better Explained: https://goo.gl/z28x2R For those who want to learn more about the relationship between 1+2+3+4+... and -1/12, I'm quite fond of this blog post by Terry Tao: https://goo.gl/XRzyTJ Also, in a different video "What does it feel like to invent math", I give a completely different example of how adding up growing positive numbers can meaningfully give a negative number, so long as you loosen your understanding of what distance should mean for numbers: https://youtu.be/XFDM1ip5HdU Interestingly, that vertical line where the convergent portion of the function appears to abruptly stop corresponds to numbers whose real part is Euler's constant, ~0.577. For those who know what this is, it's kind of fun to puzzle about why this is the case. Roadhog: Character Analysis by the numbers

12:06
Data for this analysis came from overbuff.com or masteroverwatch.com If you want to check out your own metrics, take a look at those websites, they are terrific! Please let me know what you think of this analysis in the comments below. This is a new video format for me and I would like to see what is working so that I can improve for the next video. The goal of this video was to do an analysis of key metrics of the Top 50 Roadhogs based on play time. I then looked at the correlation between those metrics and higher SR ratings. It appears that one of the biggest differences between a high SR and a lower SR is mostly based on shot accuracy. Hooking frequency and accuracy were not as relevant since the correlation was low.

You would be right, of course, but that definition doesn't mean anything unless you have some knowledge of what calculus is. Let's keep it simple, shall we? Calculus is a conceptual framework which provides systematic techniques for solving problems. These problems are appropriately applicable to analytic geometry and algebra. Therefore....precalculus gives you the background for the mathematical concepts, problems, issues and techniques that appear in calculus, including trigonometry, functions, complex numbers, vectors, matrices, and others. There you have it ladies and gentlemen....an introduction to precalculus! We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content. For free. For everyone. FINALLY! 4 APPLICATIONS OF COMPLEX NUMBERS IN REAL DAILY LIFE

12:04
VISUALIZING MATH 1 (PDF Book Link) https://gumroad.com/l/visualizingmaths-e-book Blog Link https://visualzingmathsandphysics.blogspot.in 1] How sin( ) is a measure of how much perpendicular two objects/forces are. 2] How cos( ) is a measure of how much parallel two objects/forces are. 3] How in complex numbers i = rotation by 90 degrees i^2= rotation by 180 degrees i^3= rotation by 270 degrees. i^4 = rotation by 360 degrees. 4] Transpose of a matrix = Rotation by 180 degrees around the diagonal. 5] e^i(angle) = rotation by that angle. 6] sin(30) = 1/2 because at 30 degree the effect of a force reduces to half over the other force/object (as against when the two forces/object are against at 90 degrees w.r.t each other) 7) A X B = |A| |B| sin(angle between A and B). VISUALIZING MATH 2 PDF BOOK LINK https://gumroad.com/l/visualizingmath2book Visualizing Math 2 deals with concepts like 1) How Fourier Transforms are the side-view of a wave. 2) Laplace Transforms are side-view + front view (Imaginary + real part) 3) How Z Transforms are nothing but the discrete cousin of Laplace and DFT of Fourier. 4) How the number 1 appears actually as a fraction 1/1 in Math which means full of full. Thus sin(90) = 1/1 = full on influence at 90 deg Thus Max probability = 1/1 = full of full sample space Thus cos(0) = 1/1 = full on full influence at 0 deg (when parallel) Unit Circle radius = 1/1 = magnitude doesn't decrease/increase throughout the rotation. Else it would have been a ratio like 2/1 or 1/4 etc. 5) How Continous functions can be visualized as those functions which you can draw on a paper without lifting up the pencil. 6) How a function differentiable at a point means if you stand at that point,... (1) You will experience a slope. Slope will exist. (2) This slope however will not be infinite. (fully vertical) (3) The slope will be either towards the left or the right but not both the directions. (4) The slope will not wriggle like a snake (oscillate ) at that point. 7) How a hermitian matrix can be visualized as a any object which which exhitibits vertical symmetry. So even if it is rotated upside down about the central axis( diagonal of the matrix) you wont be able to tell the difference. 8) How probability can be visualized much more intuitively by multiplying it by 100 and thus converting it into a percentage. Eg:- a probability of 0.2 can be converted to 0.2 x 100 = 20% 9) How probability density can be understood using an example of the Probability of finding a man after entering New-york v/s finding a man after entering a sparsely populated desert. And so on......... The book is still in works and subsequent updated will be sent to your mail id for free. Binnoy http://visualizingmathsandphysics.blogspot.in

What do the Numbers on Fertilizer Mean?

03:35
Click here for more DIY Lawn Care: https://goo.gl/5yYkpf Want to know what the numbers on fertilizer mean? We'll show you what the fertilizer numbers stand for, and how to decide which fertilizer is best for you! Our Lawn Care Playlist: https://goo.gl/YmZs2K Click here for our fertilizer page: https://goo.gl/4xCEQM *** For a strong and healthy yard, you’ll want to apply fertilizer throughout the year. And one of the most common questions asked is, “what do the numbers on the fertilizer bag mean?” Well, the numbers represent the fertilizer’s “guaranteed analysis;” it tells you the percentage of three key elements by weight of the bag. These numbers are also referred to as the N-P-K ratio. The first number is Nitrogen. The second is Phosphorus. And the third is Potassium. These three essential ingredients are used in all fertilizers. It gets the term “N-P-K ratio” from the each element’s symbol on the periodic table of elements. And it will always be arranged in that order. So, what does that really mean for you? It’s important to know that each element serves a specific function for your lawn or ornamental plants. The Nitrogen is responsible for the greening of the plant and shoot growth. The Phosphorus helps with root growth and the establishment of new plants. And the Potassium is for overall strength and health of the plant. Potassium will help toughen up the plant’s cells and water absorption to help keep your lawn or plants strong. When picking out a fertilizer for your lawn, it’s important to know what your lawn needs or what nutrient it is lacking. It is generally recommended that you perform a soil test to know what your turf might need. And keep in mind that regional climates, time of year, and grass type will also factor into what kind of fertilizer you will need. For instance, say you’re in California or Georgia and have a fescue lawn. Then you’ll probably want something high in Nitrogen such as 34-3-3. Or maybe you are going to do an application of fertilizer during the Fall season. Then you will want something high in Phosphorus because it will nourish the turf as it goes dormant. Don’t use a fertilizer high in Nitrogen because that could feed fungus or weeds. The good news is that most fertilizer labels will give you information on what you’ll need for your lawn. It will also tell you how much fertilizer you need to apply to get one pound of Nitrogen per thousand square feet. This info will also help you calculate how much fertilizer you’ll need depending on how many applications you’ll make. So make sure you always check that label. This should be a good launching point for knowing and deciding which kind of fertilizer you will need for your lawn. But remember, lawn care is more than just putting down fertilizer. You will also need to combat weed growth with pre and post-emergent weed killers. If you have any questions, leave a comment in the comment section below. If there were just 3 numbers to focus on what would they be?

06:58
If there were just ‘3 numbers’ to focus on what would they be? I remember the day when I first got computerised at the salon front desk, ohh the sense of control and order that all those reports gave me. The problem was, that being completely honest that like so many salon owners I didn’t know what to do with all the information except look at it! Like so many salon owners I was in a state of ‘information overload’ and that leads to the inevitable analysis paralysis, “What did it all mean and what was I meant to do with it?” The danger is that ‘you do nothing with it’ and therefore render your shiny new point of sale system to be nothing more than a glorified cash register. Huge mistake! Once you have the information in your hands that is just the beginning. The challenge for many salon owners is two fold, firstly knowing ‘what numbers are the important numbers to track and secondly knowing how to drive those numbers in the right direction! The problem is that there isn't a right set of numbers that everyone should focus on, it really depends on the business model you have. For example, if you are a fashionable boutique salon then ‘re-bookings’ are probably important to your business so tracking your ‘re-bookings’ at both a salon and individual level is important. On the other hand if you were a budget salon in shopping mall that doesn’t work on fixed appointments then tracking re-bookings would probably be a waste of time. If you have a barbershop then tracking colour percentage probably isn’t that important, but tracking client retention is, whereas if you had a salon in a hotel or resort then client retention may not be important. So the first thing to do is decide what numbers are the most important numbers for you to focus on at both an individual and a salon level. So, at a salon level if there were just 3 numbers to focus on what would they be? Well, I have settled on these 3 At number… 1. Total weekly revenue in products and services 2. Weekly break-even point 3. Employee costs as a percentage of total revenue So let’s talk about each, one at a time. The first number is Your total weekly revenue in products and services and is easy to find out. Your ‘point of sale’ system will give you a 100% accurate summary of all transactions and break it down in many different ways. As a salon owner you need to know that number and whether it’s going up, down or plateauing. However, the second number I chose is your weekly ‘break-even’ figure and that is a little more difficult and probably wont be as exact. Finding out an exact weekly break-even figure for a previous financial year is easy as you will have an exact set of historical numbers to work on, all you need do is get your ‘Profit and Loss report’ for the previous year and divide the total expenses by 52 [weeks in the year]. The answer will give you an exact average weekly break-even figure for the previous year. If you were to plot that fixed weekly break-even figure as a line on a graph and were then to plot next to it week by week your total revenue you would see that some weeks you made a profit, some weeks you broke even and some weeks you may have made a loss. If you want to find out a ‘break-even’ point for the current year, start by using the previous years Profit & Loss and the break-even figure as a benchmark go through the expenses line by line and adjust where necessary up or down [depending on changes that have happened or anticipated changes in your business, for example changing staff numbers, rent increases etc] to come up with a best guess total expenses figure for the current year. Again, divide that figure by 52 to get a new estimated weekly break-even figure for the current year. Remember this weekly break-even figure isn’t allowing for profit, it is purely ‘break-even’ so hitting it means you are surviving …just. What you should do is factor in and add on an additional amount for profit as either a ‘set dollar amount’ or as a percentage, for example add another 10% on top after all expenses are paid and that is the projected profit. My third most important number to track as a salon owner is ‘Total Employee costs as a percentage of revenue’. The reason this number is so important is that this is the ‘one number’ that you must control, it is the 'one number’ that if you get it wrong it will sink your boat, and fast! Typically, ‘Total Employee costs’ including the owners income, will average around the 50% mark and depending on the country you are in it will include, pensions, annual holiday pay, sick pay etc if you get it wrong and you are overstaffed for the level of productivity you will immediately be eating up the portion that should have been profit. Get it horribly wrong and you will not survive.
