Qualitative analysis of interview data: A step-by-step guide

06:51
The content applies to qualitative data analysis in general. Do not forget to share this Youtube link with your friends. The steps are also described in writing below (Click Show more): STEP 1, reading the transcripts 1.1. Browse through all transcripts, as a whole. 1.2. Make notes about your impressions. 1.3. Read the transcripts again, one by one. 1.4. Read very carefully, line by line. STEP 2, labeling relevant pieces 2.1. Label relevant words, phrases, sentences, or sections. 2.2. Labels can be about actions, activities, concepts, differences, opinions, processes, or whatever you think is relevant. 2.3. You might decide that something is relevant to code because: *it is repeated in several places; *the interviewee explicitly states that it is important; *you have read about something similar in reports, e.g. scientific articles; *it reminds you of a theory or a concept; *or for some other reason that you think is relevant. You can use preconceived theories and concepts, be open-minded, aim for a description of things that are superficial, or aim for a conceptualization of underlying patterns. It is all up to you. It is your study and your choice of methodology. You are the interpreter and these phenomena are highlighted because you consider them important. Just make sure that you tell your reader about your methodology, under the heading Method. Be unbiased, stay close to the data, i.e. the transcripts, and do not hesitate to code plenty of phenomena. You can have lots of codes, even hundreds. STEP 3, decide which codes are the most important, and create categories by bringing several codes together 3.1. Go through all the codes created in the previous step. Read them, with a pen in your hand. 3.2. You can create new codes by combining two or more codes. 3.3. You do not have to use all the codes that you created in the previous step. 3.4. In fact, many of these initial codes can now be dropped. 3.5. Keep the codes that you think are important and group them together in the way you want. 3.6. Create categories. (You can call them themes if you want.) 3.7. The categories do not have to be of the same type. They can be about objects, processes, differences, or whatever. 3.8. Be unbiased, creative and open-minded. 3.9. Your work now, compared to the previous steps, is on a more general, abstract level. You are conceptualizing your data. STEP 4, label categories and decide which are the most relevant and how they are connected to each other 4.1. Label the categories. Here are some examples: Adaptation (Category) Updating rulebook (sub-category) Changing schedule (sub-category) New routines (sub-category) Seeking information (Category) Talking to colleagues (sub-category) Reading journals (sub-category) Attending meetings (sub-category) Problem solving (Category) Locate and fix problems fast (sub-category) Quick alarm systems (sub-category) 4.2. Describe the connections between them. 4.3. The categories and the connections are the main result of your study. It is new knowledge about the world, from the perspective of the participants in your study. STEP 5, some options 5.1. Decide if there is a hierarchy among the categories. 5.2. Decide if one category is more important than the other. 5.3. Draw a figure to summarize your results. STEP 6, write up your results 6.1. Under the heading Results, describe the categories and how they are connected. Use a neutral voice, and do not interpret your results. 6.2. Under the heading Discussion, write out your interpretations and discuss your results. Interpret the results in light of, for example: *results from similar, previous studies published in relevant scientific journals; *theories or concepts from your field; *other relevant aspects. STEP 7 Ending remark Nb: it is also OK not to divide the data into segments. Narrative analysis of interview transcripts, for example, does not rely on the fragmentation of the interview data. (Narrative analysis is not discussed in this tutorial.) Further, I have assumed that your task is to make sense of a lot of unstructured data, i.e. that you have qualitative data in the form of interview transcripts. However, remember that most of the things I have said in this tutorial are basic, and also apply to qualitative analysis in general. You can use the steps described in this tutorial to analyze: *notes from participatory observations; *documents; *web pages; *or other types of qualitative data. STEP 8 Suggested reading Alan Bryman's book: 'Social Research Methods' published by Oxford University Press. Steinar Kvale's and Svend Brinkmann's book 'InterViews: Learning the Craft of Qualitative Research Interviewing' published by SAGE. Text and video (including audio) © Kent Löfgren, Sweden

Correlation & Regression: Concepts with Illustrative examples

09:51
We can use scatter plots to understand the relationships between variables, but it is applied only for obvious relationships like Temperature and Viscosity. Sometimes, it is not possible to comment about relationship between variables only looking at the graph. “CORRELATION & REGRESSION” are very important mathematical concepts to define relationship between variables. This is the topic for video. I have tried to explain these concepts with the help of practical examples which will be very easy to understand. I have also explained the procedure about how to create a “CORRELATION & REGRESSION ANALYSIS” in Microsoft Excel. Everything is with steps, snapshots and examples, which will be very easy to understand. I have also covered statistics part like how to read and understand “SIGNIFICANCE F and P-values” I am sure, you will liked it. What is Job Analysis | purpose of the job analysis | Methods of job analysis Hindi - Urdu

10:46
job analysis involves collecting and recording job-related data such as knowledge and skills required to perform a job, duties and responsibilities involved, education qualifications and experience required and physical and emotional characteristics required to perform a job in a desired manner. The main purposes of conducting a job analysis process is to use this particular information to create a right fit between job and employee, to assess the performance of an employee, to determine the worth of a particular task and to analyze training and development needs of an employee delivering that specific job. Observation Method A job analyst observes an employee and records all his performed and non-performed task, fulfilled and un-fulfilled responsibilities and duties, methods, ways and skills used by him or her to perform various duties and his or her mental or emotional ability to handle challenges and risks. However, it seems one of the easiest methods to analyze a specific job Interview Method In this method, an employee is interviewed so that he or she comes up with their own working styles, problems faced by them, use of particular skills and techniques while performing their job and insecurities and fears about their careers. Questionnaire Method Another commonly used job analysis method is getting the questionnaires filled from employees, their superiors and managers. However, this method also suffers from personal biases. A great care should be takes while framing questions for different grades of employees. These are some of the most common methods of job analysis. However, there are several other specialized methods including task inventory, job element method, competency profiling, technical conference, threshold traits analysis system and a combination of these methods. While choosing a method, HR managers need to consider time, cost and human efforts included in conducting the process. Why is it important to do a job analysis? What is the function of a job analysis? What is the purpose of the job analysis? What is a job analysis and how is it used? What is their job description? What is work analysis method? Confirmatory Factor Analysis - Part 1 (Psychology, Statistics, Research Methods)

14:11
In intelligence research, personality research and other research fields of psychology, factor analytic models are used to structurize the variables' jungle. For example: To simplify the variable structure of a personality questionnaire several questions (items), that are supposed to measure the same construct are grouped to one (latent) factor (e.g. extraversion). But does this group of items really measure extraversion? Maybe some of the items "load" on a different factor. And Maybe other aspects of the model have flaws as well... How well a factor model fits the data can be examined by a confirmatory factor analysis. Telecom and IT trends are often relatively obvious. Moore's Law. Power of computing. Cost of phone calls. Cost of flying and process of globalisation. Older generation knew form globalization and global communications. Internet was around in late 1970s. But Google and YouTube leaders recognise that behavior can be very hard to predict. Matrix Methods | Structural Analysis | Civil Engineering

30:58
Why this Video is Important? Matrix Methods in structural analysis is an entire subject which is also known as ‘Advance Structural Analysis.’ This video will give a basic idea about how we approach to solve problems to next level. Real Life Applications: Now-a-days all the real life structures have designed by different type of software like few are design software, few are analysis software, few are finite element analysis based. But all of them are based on matrix methods. Explanation: If we consider any structure, there is always P-Δ analysis (Load deformation Analysis). Now the equation is like P= K. Δ or M = K.θ, so there is a term K which is known as ‘Stiffness’. The opposite to stiffness is known as ‘Flexibility’. Now how to generate the stiffness and flexibility matrix, that is the main discussion in this chapter. In this video we will only discuss about flexibility matrix only. A Tutorial Review of Functional Connectivity Analysis Methods and Their Interpretational Pitfalls

01:46:42
Andre M. Bastos - MIT Description: Oscillatory neuronal synchronization has been hypothesized to provide a mechanism for dynamic network coordination. Rhythmic neuronal interactions can be quantified using multiple metrics, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. This tutorial will review and summarize current analysis methods used in the field of invasive and non-invasive electrophysiology to study the dynamic connections between neuronal populations. First, I will review metrics for functional connectivity, including coherence, phase synchronization, phase-slope index, and Granger causality, with the specific aim to provide an intuition for how these metrics work, as well as their quantitative definition. Next, I will highlight a number of interpretational caveats and common pitfalls that can arise when performing functional connectivity analysis, including the common reference problem, the signal to noise ratio problem, the volume conduction problem, the common input problem, and the sample size bias problem. These pitfalls will be illustrated by presenting a series of MATLAB-scripts, which can be executed by the tutorial participants to simulate each of these potential problems. I will discuss how some of these issues can be addressed using current methods.
