Articles - a, an & the - English Grammar lesson Take the quiz - http://www.learnex.in/articles-a-an-the/ The 3 articles in English are a, an and the. The learner has to decide noun-by-noun which one of the articles to use. In fact, there are 4 choices to make, because sometimes no article is necessary. Native-speakers, of course, use the articles correctly without thinking. English learners, on the other hand, need to have some guidelines for making the right choice - particularly those learners whose own language does not have articles. The guidelines that follow in this lesson should help ESL students to a basic understanding of English article use. The words a, an and the are known as articles. • We use an before words that begin with vowels (a,e,i,o,u). E.g. I found an orange boat. However there are few exceptions like the words honest and hour. In the words honest and hour the alphabet h is silent and therefore the letter o becomes the first alphabet of the word and hence we use the article an. E.g. Mr. Smith is an honest man. I will be with you in an hour. We use a before words that begin with consonants (all the letters of the alphabet except the vowels). E.g. Bumble is a baby elephant. • We use the before words that we have already spoken about. E.g. I bought an apple. The apple is very sweet.
12 Things to Know If You Like Sleeping Naked

09:41
A lot of people choose to sleep naked simply because they find it more comfortable. But sleeping with nothing on has science-based health benefits, and, on the contrary, can cause your trouble you probably didn’t know about. A survey of 1,500 people aged 25 to 55 in six different countries showed that only 30% of us sleep naked and the rest prefer to stay in their underwear or in some comfortable pajamas. One of the most obvious reasons to sleep with no clothes on is to get deeper shut-eye. Sleeping naked is a good way to keep your skin cool without changing the temperature of your bedroom. By skipping on the sleepwear, you give your body, especially the parts that tend to sweat more than others (like your feet and privates), a chance to breathe. A woman’s genitalia can be an ideal breeding ground for fungi and bacteria. Sleeping nude helps keep this area cool, dry, and ventilated, reducing the risk of developing a UTI or a yeast infection. For men, tight-fitting underwear overheats the testes and can affect semen quality and reproductive health. A lot of people, women in particular, usually feel self-conscious about their bodies, even if the supposed “flaws” they have aren’t actually there! When you embrace your body just the way it is, you exude confidence in whatever clothing you decide to put on it. If we get overheated at night, our stress hormone levels stay high. Plus, our human growth hormone that’s responsible for cell-renewal isn’t released at all. So your body panics and chooses to store fat instead of burning it. If you’re among the 3% of people that sleepwalk, don’t throw away your pj’s! There have been tons of cases where naked sleepwalkers had problems with their neighbors and even law enforcement. If your skin is really sensitive, sleeping naked isn’t for you either. Never forget that a good night’s sleep is essential for your health and well-being. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS It helps you get deeper sleep. 0:38 It’s beneficial for your skin. 1:35 It helps keep your hair healthy and beautiful. 2:20 It’s good for genital health. 2:58 It builds confidence. 3:36 It can help you lose weight. 4:23 It keeps couples happy. 5:24 You’ll save money. 6:13 You shouldn’t sleep naked if… You’re a sleepwalker. 6:42 You have sensitive skin. 7:30 You’re prone to catching colds. 7:55 You have anxiety. 8:25 SUMMARY -Lowering your skin temperature increases the quality of your sleep and reduces the number of times you wake up throughout the night. -Sleeping naked can actually decrease the risk of skin problems and protect your cells. Plus, it has an anti-aging effect. -Sleeping in cooler temperatures means less sweat and beautiful stronger hair. -To keep your privates happy and healthy, never sleep in your underwear. -Sleeping naked helps you become more confident in your own skin. -Sleeping in lower temperatures boosts metabolism and prevents the progression of diabetes. -Skin-to-skin contact, which releases a huge amount of oxytocin, or the “feel good hormone” is crucial for a happy relationship. -Getting rid of pajamas altogether can help you save money you’d otherwise spend on them. -If you’re among the 3% of people that sleepwalk, don’t throw away your PJ’s. Imagine all the discomfort it can cause when you’re not sleeping at home. -Exposed sensitive skin can cause problems like allergic reactions, skin irritation, and asthma due to dust and bugs. -The temperature drops at night, so it’s important not to be exposed to excessively low temperatures if you’re prone to catching colds. -If you feel uncomfortable sleeping in the nude or if you’re worried about your kids or roommates barging into your bedroom unexpectedly, you won’t sleep soundly because of your anxiety. Take Just One Spoon, And You'll Fall Asleep In a Minute

12:08
How to fall asleep fast? You spend hours upon hours tossing in your bed but still fail to fall asleep. Yeah, we've all been there. Thankfully, there are lots of effective methods that can easily make you snooze as soon as your head hits the pillow! Did you know, for example, that physical contact with someone you love can make you fall asleep within minutes? The thing is, when we're close to someone we deeply care about, our system produces a significant amount of endorphins that can quickly comfort you and help you relax. Well, yeah, some of these methods are, let’s say, a little unconventional, but they do work! TIMESTAMPS: #1: Imagine the next morning 1:15 #2: Wash your face with cold water 1:59 #3: Do the lying butterfly pose 2:47 #4: Listen to binaural beats 3:49 #5: Add more tryptophan and magnesium to your diet 4:30 #6: Try diaphragmatic breathing 5:57 #7: Remember your day in reverse 6:49 #8: Tidy up your room 7:25 #9: Use relaxation techniques 7:59 #10: Close your right nostril 9:16 #11: Make a “sleeping potion” 10:09 #12: Hug someone you love 10:48 #sleepproblems #insomnia #sleepdisorder Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - If, no matter what you do, you still can't get to sleep, imagine your following morning in the tiniest details. With a little time and a good imagination, you'll feel so drowsy that your system will drift into sleep mode. - You can help reset it within seconds simply by putting your face in a bowl of ice-cold water! Doing this triggers a necessary phenomenon called the Mammalian Dive Reflex. It lowers your blood pressure and heart rate. - There's no problem yoga can't solve, and sleep issues are no exception. All you have to do is perform the lying butterfly pose, and you'll start to doze off in no time! - Binaural beats are often used for meditation, calming your brain, and making you feel relaxed. The secret behind their magic is pretty simple: they simultaneously send a different sound frequency to each one of your ears. - According to a study conducted by Australian researchers, an amino acid called tryptophan is extremely beneficial for your system, especially when it comes to sleep. - Just 5 minutes of diaphragmatic breathing every day before bed will ensure you a good night’s sleep and a clear well-rested mind! - Instead of trying to empty your mind and fight constant thoughts, go through your day from the end to the beginning. Since you have to think of your day in reverse, this exercise increases your brain activity and tires it out. - When your bedroom is full of unnecessary clutter, your brain starts to associate it with anything else but relaxation and rest. And that's exactly why you can't fall asleep - To fall asleep quickly, you have to fully relax both physically and mentally. Here’s where progressive muscle relaxation comes in handy. - And the reason behind it is purely biological! When you close your right nostril while lying on your left side, your blood pressure naturally decreases. With low blood pressure comes yawning and a strong desire to fall asleep. - All you have to do is mix 1/4 of a tablespoon of delicious honey, 1/8 of a tablespoon of exotic sea salt, and 1 full tablespoon of extremely healthy coconut oil. Science Explains How Much Sleep You Need Depending on Your Age

09:21
How to Get Enough Sleep for Your Age. People usually think that 7–8 hours of sleep is enough, but that's not always the case. In fact, the number of hours you need to enjoy proper sleep depends and stay healthy depends on your age. Follow some simple rules to restore energy and get the most out of your recharge time. What happens when you experience a lack of sleep 1:09 If you constantly feel sleepy, are easily irritated, feel exhausted during the day, or often yawn, you most likely suffer from sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep also increases the risk of developing the following problems and diseases: exhaustion, depression, changes in hormone function, cardiovascular diseases, visual impairment, and diabetes. How much sleep is needed for your age 3:44 Scientists have established the connection between age and the required number of hours a person needs to have a good night’s sleep. Newborns 0–3 months old need about 14–17 hours of sleep daily. If you're the parent of a 1- or 2-year-old toddler, make sure they sleep for no less than 11–14 hours every day. Kids from 6 to 13 years old still need more sleep than adults: 9–11 hours. Young adults of 18–25 years old need less sleep: just 7–9 hours every day. The same can be said about adults between 26 and 64 years of age: 7–9 hours are enough for them to rest. Elderly people older than 65 sleep even less: 7–8 hours a day. Each person has individual needs, which may change these numbers. People who are sick, stressed, or, on the contrary, extremely active need more sleep to recharge. How to get enough sleep and feel refreshed every day 5:36 Fall asleep and wake up at the same time every day. A fixed schedule will regulate your body clock. Don't overeat, have tonic drinks before bed, and avoid cigarettes and alcohol. Create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere in your bedroom. The temperature in the room shouldn't be higher than 75ºF. A short walk in the fresh air before going to bed will help you fall asleep more quickly. Try not to use gadgets before going to bed, and turn off electrical appliances at night. Even if you aren't tired, you still need to go to bed at the same time every day. If you're lucky, you'll fall asleep after a short while. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Lack of sleep 1:09 Age and sleep 3:44 Sleep improvement 5:36 SUMMARY -Being sleep deprived negatively affects the quality of future bouts of sleep. Not getting enough sleep weakens your immune system and can have serious consequences. Your emotional state can also be affected by a lack of sleep. -Scientists have established the connection between age and the required number of hours a person needs to have a good night’s sleep. The older a person is, the smaller amount of sleep recovery they need. -Fall asleep and wake up at the same time every day. Don't overeat or have tonics at night. Choose a comfortable bed and quality bedding. Try not to use gadgets before going to bed, and turn off electrical appliances at night. Avoid naps if you have problems with sleep. 10 Survival Skills That Might Help You Out One Day

07:58
Bright Side made a list of movie-like tricks to get you out of trouble and into action. From getting handcuffs off to encoding messages – we have a lot of awesome tricks for you. We live in a crazy time when everything is possible. Indeed, you never know when something unexpected can come your way. But when it does, you’d better be prepared. TIMESTAMPS Getting handcuffs off with a match 0:40 Hiding valuable things 1:13 Getting out of zip tie handcuffs 1:49 Imitating drinking 2:26 Using a mirror to spy on someone 2:57 Sending a secret message 3:35 Making a dead drop device 4:27 Setting up a door monitor 5:02 Creating a coded message 5:41 Waterproofing matches 6:25 SUMMARY - There is a way to help you get any handcuffs off, whether for a nice magic trick to impress an audience or if you ever find a real need. The only necessary tool is a match. Slightly flatten it (your teeth will do the job just fine). Stick it right into the hole in the handcuffs. - If you have a stash of money or valuable documents you need to hide, here is an easy DIY idea for you. All you need is a chair, a hammer, some nails, and rubber bands. Flip the chair upside down, and hammer nails into the chair in the form of a box. Slightly bend the tips of the nails. Stretch the rubber bands as shown in the picture, and slip your money underneath. - You’ve probably seen people using white plastic zip ties as handcuffs. They squeeze the hands really tightly, and one would assume that it’s impossible to undo them unless somebody cuts them off. Not so fast. You can easily get rid of them. Lift your hands above your head, and then quickly pull them down and open your arms at the same time. - If you ever feel uncomfortable drinking a certain something in the presence of people you just met who seem suspicious, there is a way out. Just imitate drinking and don’t swallow the liquid. - You can try using a CD with a reflective surface to see what’s going on behind a closed door if you feel like something bad is happening there. Get on your knees next to the door and put the CD on the ground through the door gap. Adjust the edge of the CD to get the right angle, and you will see what’s going on on the ground and in further parts of the room. - Write your message on the paper with the white crayon. It will look totally blank. When someone needs to read it, they can simply color over it with the marker. The message will magically appear! - When spies have some sensitive information for their ally, they make “dead drops” out of the most ordinary items. They just have to be large enough to fit a piece of paper or a USB drive. You can make a regular bolt your dead drop if you are good with tools, or pick something easier like a flowerpot for this function. - If you ever need to check whether somebody has been in your room but you have no fancy gadgets, just get a tape and some string. Simply tape a piece of string, so it hangs slightly above the door. When someone closes or opens the door, the string will get stuck between the door and the threshold. - If you need to send a coded message, you can use a simple reflect method. Just write out the letters A to M in a single line. Underneath the A to M line, write out the letters N to Z. Then simply change each letter of your message to the opposite letter of the two lines. “Hello“ will become ”uryyb." - To waterproof your matches using wax, let a candle burn for a while or melt some old wax chunks. Then, dip your matches in this melted substance deep enough to cover more than the head of the match. Once the matches cool down, scrape the extra wax off the matches’ heads with your fingernail. The fingernail option might be a bit easier – you just have to paint your matches from head to toe or just the tips with it, or dip them into the bottle. 11 Secrets to Memorize Things Quicker Than Others

10:46
We learn things throughout our entire lives, but we still don’t know everything because we forget a lot of information. Bright Side will tell you about 11 simple memorizing tips that will help you remember everything and improve your memory. TIMESTAMPS Why we forget things 1:04 How to remember everything 2:00 How to memorize something quickly 2:30 How to memorize something for a long time 3:20 Try to understand what you learn 4:17 Learn the most necessary information 5:11 Serial position effect 5:45 Interference theory 6:06 Learn opposite things 7:22 Build your own «mind palace» 7:22 Use «nail words» 8:19 Make up stories 8:40 Use a tape recorder 9:10 Visualize 9:51 Choose only the best materials 9:59 SUMMARY - Your brain is like a hard drive — the space is limited. Remember Sherlock Holmes? He couldn’t name all the planets of the Solar system — this was not because he missed school or something like that, but because he was too smart to have such irrelevant information in his memory. He deliberately erased facts he would never need. This is what your brain does: it protects you from overloading with information. That’s why all new data is stored in the short-term memory, not the long-term one. So, if you don’t repeat it or use it, you forget it very quickly. A German psychologist, Hermann Ebbinghaus researched the memory and its mechanisms. He described the Forgetting Curve which shows that just one hour after learning something new we forget more than half of the learned information. One day later we remember only about 30% percent. Well, you see where this is going. - There is a memorization technique called «Spaced repetition». To keep some information in your head for a longer time, you need to try to put it into your long-term memory. Forced memorization is not very effective in this case because your brain can’t make sense of the information quickly and form strong associations. Here it all depends on the reason why you are learning something. - To memorize something quickly, repeat the information right after learning it. The second repetition should be after 15-20 minutes. You don’t need to return to the information between repetitions — just rest and do something different. Let your brain relax. Repeat the learned material the third time after 6-8 hours. And you should have the final repetition 24 hours after the first contact with the information. Do you know any other memorizing tips? If yes, share them in the comment section below! 12 Things That Ruin a First Impression Immediately

10:09
Scientists have proven that we form our first impression about someone within the first 7 seconds of meeting them, and 55% of the first impression is based on appearance. Pay attention to 12 common things you should avoid not to ruin the first impression. In his research, psychologist William F. Chaplin found that people with a weak handshake are instantly judged as being shy, anxious, uninterested, or even completely incompetent. If you place your hands on the table, don’t squeeze them too tight or lay them flat with your palms down. This makes people feel like you want to control them. Also, don’t forget about the role that culture plays here. A 2007 study showed that people who maintain eye contact during a conversation are often seen as more confident, attentive, intelligent, and trustworthy. Try not to focus the conversation only on yourself and your issues. It’s always a good idea to be attentive to your conversation partner. Tapping can indicate nervousness, irritation, or impatience. People might even think that you’re purposely trying to irritate others or draw attention to yourself. And while cracking your knuckles can help relieve stress, it’s one of the most annoying sounds according to a survey by The New York Times. A study from the University of Essex showed that even just having one’s phone on the table next to them reduces a conversation’s quality and the participants’ engagement. So leave it in your bag or in your pocket. Running late to a meeting with people you don’t know or have a formal relationship with will shed a guaranteed negative light on you. You’ll seem like an unreliable and unorganized person that doesn’t respect people enough to value their time. Music: About That Oldie Vibe Tracks Josefina Quincas Moreira Merengue de Limon Quincas Moreira Pink Lemonade Silent Partner https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS A weak handshake 0:38 Keeping your hands in the wrong position 1:25 Chewing gum 2:15 Avoiding eye-contact 3:01 Playing with your hair 3:41 Picking the wrong conversation topics 4:25 Invading someone’s personal space 5:07 Making distracting noises 5:49 Constantly checking your phone 6:34 Forgetting people’s names 7:23 Being late 8:00 The wrong attire 8:47 SUMMARY -If you wanna give the right impression of confidence and capability, remember to grip the other person’s hand firmly and for no longer than 2 seconds. -Put your hands on your lap if you want, but never keep them in your pockets because this gives the impression that you’re hiding something. -Chewing on gum makes you look immature, self-centered, and somewhat low-brow. -Don't be afraid to lock eyes with another person from time to time instead of constantly looking around, especially when you meet them for the first time. -If you tend to play with your hair when you’re nervous, try to kick this habit, you could be sending them the wrong message. -Play it safe and avoid the general “taboo” topics out there. They include health problems, money, religion, politics, or personal problems and complaints. -When it comes to meeting someone for the first time, keep a minimum of 4 feet between the two of you. -It can be nearly impossible to control nervous tapping, but you have to try, especially during important meetings or presentations. -Even if you’re just checking the time on your screen, it comes off as extremely impolite when you do it during a conversation. -Immediately repeate someone’s name after you’ve been introduced. In case you forget the name, just play it cool and try to avoid using phrases where you have to name the other person. -Leave your house in enough time so that you don’t have to run to your meeting. You’ll be all disheveled and unfocused, and that looks bad too. -If you’re meeting somebody for the very first time, again, especially in more formal situations, try to be conservative in your choice of clothing, be polished, and don’t use heavy perfume or tons of makeup. Prepositions - ( on, in, at ) in relation to time. - Free English & Grammar Lessons What are prepositions? Prepositions are short words (on, in, at) that usually stand in front of nouns (sometimes also in front of gerund verbs). Even advanced learners of English find prepositions difficult, as a one to one translation is usually not possible. One preposition in your native language might have several translations depending on the situation. There are hardly any rules as to when to use which preposition. The only way to learn prepositions is looking them up while reading a lot in English and learning useful phrases off by heart . In this lesson Rachna brings out some prepositions rules ( in, on, at ) in relation to time.
Do You Really Need to Get Your Wisdom Teeth Pulled?

06:39
Wisdom teeth come out between the ages of 12 to 25, and some doctors recommend having them removed. But is it necessary? Do we really need to get our wisdom teeth pulled? In some cases, there is absolutely no need to remove your wisdom teeth. If they don’t interfere with the normal functioning of neighboring teeth, it means that your mouth is big enough to accommodate all four of your wisdom teeth. The same is true if they’re straight and not at an angle to their neighbors, which can create hard-to-reach places for bacteria to grow. If there isn't enough space in the mouth and all adjacent teeth are already snug as it is, the erupting wisdom tooth brings the risk of damaging the nearby teeth. In this case, it’ll cause pain in your whole mouth and problems with chewing! Poor oral hygiene because of stuck food in wisdom teeth that didn’t’ fully come in can cause a large buildup of bacteria, which can lead to even more problems like oral cavity diseases. Most dentists agree that the younger you are when you have your wisdom teeth removed, the better. After you turn 25, all the bone tissues have formed completely. This means that the teeth are more difficult to remove, and the surrounding tissues heal more slowly. After you’ve had your wisdom teeth removed, the best post-op diet for you is milkshakes and ice cream. These foods are soft and cold, which is good because it soothes the pain. You should also remove wisdom teeth if tumors have formed, there’s inflammation in the gums and tooth decay. -There's nothing wrong with keeping your wisdom teeth if you regularly visit a dentist and get x-rays of your jaw. In this case, you can learn about a potential problem, like improper wisdom tooth growth. -After the surgery, exercise the jaw by opening and closing your mouth. Eat soft foods like soup, pasta, mashed potatoes and so on. Drink lots of liquids. Start brushing your teeth only the next day after the surgery. Do it very delicately. -Do not smoke, don’t be too active and harsh while rinsing your mouth. Do not eat sticky or hard food. It can disturb or scratch your wound. Do not drink through a straw. -35% of people are born without wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the only teeth that aren't formed in the womb. 7 Exercises to Relieve Nerve Pain In a Few Minutes

11:36
Do you suffer from sciatica? Sciatic nerve pain – it’s a shooting pain that can show up in your lower back, butt, hips, and legs. It’s a real nightmare for those who suffer from it, and many are willing to turn to surgery to get rid of it. But that’s not even necessary in over 75% of cases! One of the most effective methods to fight this kind of pain is regular therapeutic exercises. You can use a yoga mat or simply put a blanket on a flat surface. Don't forget to close all the windows and doors so that there isn’t a draft, and make sure that it's not too cold in the room! TIMESTAMPS: Exercise #1 1:19 Exercise #2 2:13 Exercise #3 3:43 Exercise #4 4:52 Exercise #5 5:28 Exercise #6 6:10 Exercise #7 Other helpful tips 6:48 #sciatica #backpain #sciaticnervepain Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - #1. “Eye of the Needle Stretch” is one of the most effective exercises you can do to relieve sciatic nerve pain. Do 2-3 reps on each leg for the best results. - #2. For this one, you’ll remain on your back with your knees bent. But this time, rest your arms alongside your body. Now raise your legs a little bit off the ground. Keep lifting and lowering them 5 times. - #3. For the last floor exercise, you'll need a tennis ball. Lie down on it so that it’s positioned right under one of your buttocks. Then, gently move to find the sore spot. - #4. This first one is actually a yoga pose! It's called “Half Lord of the Fishes” and it’s known to not only ease sciatica but also energize the spine, stimulate the work of the liver and kidneys, and give a good stretch to your muscles. - #5. The second and final exercise of this set is a lot simpler. Sit on a chair and place your left ankle on your right knee. Then, carefully lean forward while keeping your back straight. - #6. To perform our first standing exercise, you have to place one foot on an elevated surface like a chair or table while keeping your leg and toes straight. From this position, gently stretch toward this leg as close as you possibly can until you feel a clear resistance in your thigh. - #7. And to finish off the workout and remove sciatic pain for good, bend your left leg and place it on an elevated surface once again. Take a small step back with your right foot and gently stretch toward your left leg as close as possible. - Home remedies can also help you deal with this problem if it occurs way too often. One way to do it is to use essential oils, like ginger oil or peppermint oil. - Your diet also plays a bigger role here than you may think! A study conducted by Italian researchers confirmed that the regular intake of vitamin D can help treat sciatica. - Try to pay attention to your posture because it can make or break your sciatic nerve condition. Another important thing is to avoid lifting really heavy objects and try not to wear high heels too often. English Grammar: The Prepositions ON, AT, IN, BY

12:31
English for Beginners: Prepositions are short words that help us express location, time, and other relationships between people and things. Some examples of prepositions are: on, at, in, and by. Do you know how to use them? For example, do we say, "I am on a taxi" or "in a taxi"? Do you like to travel "in a plane" or "by plane"? After watching this simple but useful lesson, you will know exactly which preposition to use in any situation. Test yourself with our quiz: http://www.engvid.com/english-grammar-the-prepositions-on-at-in-by/ TRANSCRIPT I'm having a hard time reading on the train right now. Unh. Hold on. I'll start the lesson. Hi. James from engVid. Sorry, I was on the train. I want to teach you a lesson about four basic prepositions that we use in English that sometimes get confused, and I understand why, so I'll keep it basic. But because it's basic, it's going to be 80% correct. That's a good thing, that means you can go to the website and learn more from other lessons we have. But just know that sometimes there'll be exceptions, and I may not cover it here today. I'll even give you two exceptions to help you, but why waste time? Let's go to the board. Here's Mr. E. You'll notice he has a calendar, he has a clock, and: "You are here"? Oh, here. "Here" is a location. We're here right now, doing a lesson. That's the location: engVid. Let's go to the board and do the rest of the lesson, shall we? Here's: "at", "on", "in", and "by". "At". I love it because it's very specific, so you always know where you are, exactly. Problem: For transportation, "at" doesn't have anything. Hmm. So let's go to the next one. Let's go to "on". On. "On" is used for, let's say, large vehicles or large ways of travelling, such as buses... Sorry. Trains, buses, planes, and boats. I'll come back to boat in a second; it's an exception. On the train, on the bus, and on the plane, unless you're Bill Gates, Donald Trump, or me-I'm not in that list-you don't have your own train, plane, or bus, so you usually share it with a bunch of people or a few people. It's large. So we say: "You're on the bus", because it covers a big area, so there are many people sitting in that area. When I get to location, you'll see what I mean. Boat is a small exception. For many people in the world, they have their own boats because maybe they do fishing, or rowing, which is a type of boat that you go by yourself. In that situation, you can use "in". So, if the boat is small enough, say: "in": "I'm in a boat right now." But if it's a big boat, you have to say: "I'm on a boat." Another exception for the "on" rule is bicycle. You're always "on" a bicycle. I know, I said big vehicles, but remember: a bicycle is small, and it doesn't really have a motor or an engine, so we kind of give it its own thing, because you have to sit on the bicycle, and you can never really be in a bicycle. Is that good? Now, let's go to "in". "In" is funny because there are only two things for "in". "In" we use for car and taxi. The easy way to think about it is usually you own your own car; it doesn't belong to a group of people. People just don't get on your car every time you stop it, they go in and say: "Take me somewhere." And a taxi, well, when you're in a taxi, it is kind of your car. You pay the driver and you keep the car. So, this is one of those few cases where, because it belongs to me, I am in my car or I am in the taxi, because the taxi belongs to me as long as I pay the money. It's one of these funny exceptions. I don't know why, because you can put more people in a car, but I guess because you can actually own this transportation, it's yours. Think of it like the small boat. The small boat, one person is in it, you can be inside of it. All right? Cool. The last one we're going to do is "by". This is how you get there. So, "by" is different. When we talk about "in" and "on", you are... We are talking about how you are in the vehicle. Are you sitting on the bicycle? I can see you on it? You know, a boat is on water. But "by" just means: How did you get here? So, when someone responds to you with: "By car", "by plane", they're telling you how they got here. Not if they're in the plane, or on the plane. They are just... That's how they got there. So, how did I get here to do this video? Wouldn't you like to know. I'm kidding. I came here by car. So, yes, I was in my car and drove here, but I would tell somebody: "I got here by car, not by bus", and that would tell them the difference in the transportation I took. "How did you get here?" You like that? Good, so that's "by", this is how you did it; and the way you travelled is here, "in" and "on". Remember there is a small exception for small vehicles, so a small boat you can be in. Remember small. And a bicycle, you're always on the bicycle, because people see you sitting on it. We good? Excellent. Now, that is the lesson for transportation.

25 Etiquette Rules Every Lady Should Know

07:11
In the age of gender equality, some may consider “ladylike” or “gentlemanly” conduct old-fashioned, snobbish, or just plain unnecessary. But there are still those of us who want to show sophisticated and refined behavior. In this video, we’ll tell you about all the rules of ladylike behavior that are necessary to know in order to be revered by those around you and make your life more comfortable. And for the gentlemen out there feeling left out, you can learn from some of these too! TIMESTAMPS When you have guests 1:03 When you are a guest 1:18 In a restaurant 1:42 Communication rules 2:37 Table manners 3:00 General rules 3:58 Public coatrooms 4:27 Car etiquette 5:05 - If guests come to your home for the first time, show them where the bathroom is so they can freshen up. After that, you can invite them to join the others. - Bring a small gift for the host. It doesn't have to be anything expensive. Try a bottle of wine, a box of cookies, or perhaps something for their vacation home or hobby. - If you need to brush your hair, do it in the ladies' room. Nobody wants to find a hair on their plate or on the table. - Don't forget about etiquette rules at home. For instance, it’s rude to shout to another person from a different room. Besides, you might get used to doing this, and it’ll make guests feel uncomfortable. - Don't take forever choosing the best piece of food on the serving plate. Take the nearest piece to you. You wouldn't want to give the impression of being selfish and greedy, would you? - If you’re on a low-sitting chair, don't cross your legs. Hold your knees together and lean them to the side. This is called “the Duchess Slant”. You can, however, cross your legs at the ankles, also known as “the Cambridge Cross”. Are there any other etiquette rules you consider really important? Then tell us about them in the comments section! SUMMARY So if you feel that you’re a real lady inside but are just a bit confused by all the intricacies of proper behavior, don't worry! Etiquette rules are quite simple if you just give them a try and incorporate them into your lifestyle. Plus, let’s be honest, no matter what gender you are, nobody wants to come off as uncivilized or rude to others! I Decided to Sleep for 4 Hours a Day, See What Happened

12:29
One of the Bright Side writers decided to adjust his daily routine to leave only 2-4 hours for sleep! Do you ever think about how cool it would be if there were more hours in a day? You would easily have time for everything: work, hobbies, friends, and family or just lazing around doing nothing at all. But enough dreaming, let's get back to reality. The only way to make it happen is by sleeping less, but would that actually work without turning you into a tired grouch? TIMESTAMPS Where did the idea come from? 0:50 Day 1 2:48 Day 2 3:20 Day 3 3:46 Day 4 4:15 Day 5 4:55 Days 6-7 5:41 Days 8-10 6:20 Days 11-14 6:55 Pros of polyphasic sleep 7:30 Cons of polyphasic sleep 8:46 My thoughts after the experiment 9:48 SUMMARY If your life is like one big to-do list that you just can't seem to keep up with, then polyphasic sleep is probably for you. All jokes aside, I definitely became more productive, and I have a lot of spare time that allows me to do everything I want and even more. On the other hand, it can be difficult since the whole world is on a completely different regimen. Your friends and family might think it’s weird when you tell them you can't go out with them or ask them to pause a movie so you can take a nap. In any case, it's your choice to make. Just do your homework first, and then go for it! If this sort of dramatic change isn’t for you, don't worry! There are still lots of things you can do to improve your productivity. 15 COOL DIY ORGANIZERS FOR CHILDREN

07:52
COOL DIY ORGANIZERS Mike, my sweet nephew and I had fun building this LEGO desk organizer. The drawers really open and close, and we included a charging station for his iPod. The basic concept of this design is so simple, and you could make all kinds of variations to organize different things – coins, marble collections, minifigure parts, school supplies, rubber bands, paper clips, magnets. Possibilities are endless! The sizes of the drawers will be limited by what flat pieces you have on hand. Each drawer is one single flat brick. We used smooth flat bricks along the bottom of the drawer opening to make the drawers slide in and out. The drawer handles are attached to bricks that have studs on the front. Each drawer opening also needs bricks for the drawer to rest on. We also used smooth flat bricks on the top of each drawer. It’s not necessary to go around the entire drawer with smooth pieces – we just used what we had. Mike has this on his desk now, but unfortunately it will be a temporary build as it used SO many of our basic bricks! We’ll have to take it down and free up the pieces eventually. But it was enjoyable to build, and the fun of LEGO is building something different every time, anyway! It is awesome to take some recycled milk cartons and make a nice desk organizer. This desk organizer is a great space saver to put away kids’ stuff such as pencils, crayons, scissors, and small accessories. It is super easy to make and you can be sure that everything will be organized and looking nice on the desk. You can use your favorite wrapping paper or fabric to create your own style. Happy crafting! Here are the supplies you may need: Empty milk cartons; Craft knife and scissors; Ruler; Wrapping fabric or paper with colors and patterns of your choice; Glue; Ornaments (optional). Thoroughly wash and dry the inside and outside of the milk cartons. Cut the milk cartons in half in a tilted way as shown in the video. Now you’ll have two identical storage boxes from the cut out milk cartons. Connect the higher sides of the two boxes and secure with glue. Measure the sizes of the boxes’ sides and cut out some milk carton pieces with the same sizes. Create some fabric pieces to wrap the milk carton pieces and secure with glue. Please note that the fabric pieces should be slightly larger than the milk carton pieces in order to wrap them. Glue the wrapped pieces to the outside sides of the boxes. This will help to reinforce the desk organizer. Create some fabric pieces to cover the inside sides of the boxes. Use ornaments to decorate the desk organizer. Place pens, crayons etc. inside the desk organizer. Here you go! Enjoy! ; ) TIMESTAMPS: 1:01 Big cardboard organizer 2:48 Jewelry box 3:20 Juice/Milk carton organizer 4:25 Denim photo frame ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to 5-Minute MAGIC: http://bit.ly/2ldditZ 5-Minute Crafts: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5min.crafts/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/5.min.crafts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/5m_crafts Subscribe to 5-Minute Crafts GIRLY: https://goo.gl/fWbJqz Subscribe to 5-Minute Workouts: https://goo.gl/67owiQ The Bright Side of Youtube: https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/ Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/

15 Strange Things That Seem Normal Only In South Korea

10:42
South Korea is a dream travel destination for many, an absolutely fantastic culture, a country of contrasts, where modern technologies and ancient Eastern traditions harmoniously combine into something totally unique in and of itself. Every journey to this amazing country reveals countless new secrets and mysteries. These crazy yet amazing facts South Korea might astonish you. Photo credits: https://m.pikabu.ru/profile/AdaKwon (2:57, 3:49, 4:41, 7:44) People in Korea really love practical gifts like this and especially ones that can be eaten. For example, management at one South Korean company presented their employees with food baskets. The Korean New Year usually takes place in January or February, depending on the time of the second new moon after the winter solstice. South Korea is home to the most visited church in the world with a parish consisting of over 1 million people a year. There's an established gift-giving culture in Korea with certain rules. For example, big gifts to teachers or public officials are considered bribes. And when somebody visits your home in this country, you can be sure that they’ll bring a drink, dessert, or fruit. In Seoul, there's a subway train dedicated to a comedy animated series called “Larva”. It runs on the green line 8 times a day and features two of the cartoon’s main characters in every car. 63 WAYS TO SURVIVE IN ANY SITUATION

20:15
Essential survival hacks In this video compilation, we are sharing with you some of the most basic and important survival hacks that will change your life. We show you how to make the best of every situation you are in when you don't have the necessary tools to do them. For example, making your own water filter using a bandage, or making a candle just by using some oil, or how to cook dinner outside using just a tin, wood and fire. 1. How to break out of handcuffs We've seen it in movies, how most people put bobby pins in to pick the lock of their handcuffs. But what we've seen in movies is completely wrong. Here is what you need to do in this situation. If you are wearing a barrette pin on your hair, remove and try to break the top of it. Then break the back and side of it until you are left with one of the metal stripes. Then place it in that compartment where the handcuffs close (not where they lock) the slowly pull it up and you will see that it will get lose and finally you'll be released. 2. How to cut shoelaces without using your hands. If you are in a situation where you need to cut your shoelaces or thin robes and you have no scissors on knives to do it, here is what you can do. Take your shoelaces and step on them, this will keep them steady. Then take one of the sides and bring it underneath in-between your feet. Then, hold each side of the shoelace and start swinging it back an forth by applying pressure against the lace underneath and Voila 3. How to make dirty water drinkable: This trick is ideas in extreme cases where you are in a situation where there is no clean water available for you to drink. Take a plastic water and cut it in half. Attach some bandage on the neck of the bottle and flip it upside down into your drinking cup. Then, Add some charcoal in the bottle, then sand, stones some more sand and again on top more stones. Take the dirty water and pour it into the bottle to filter it and voila. 4. How to start a fire using a battery: Did you go camping but lost your lighter and matches but you still need to find a way to start a fire for the night? Then this tip is a lifesaver. Take any battery you have available (for example your torch) and take a piece of kitchen foil. Then, place the end of the foil on the top of the battery and the other part at the bottom of the battery. Then, you will see that the battery will set the foil on fire. 5. DIY Candlelight: Are you in the mood to light a candle but you don't have any around? Try this camping hack that you will fall in love with. Take a metal tin, and fill it halfway with oil. Then seal it on top using kitchen foil and pierce a tiny hole in the middle of the foil. Then take some string and run it through the whole. Then light it, you'll see that this little trick will have your artificial candle lit for hours. 6. Camping trick for shampoos, creams, and conditioners. Instead of carrying a huge shampoo bottle with you alongside your creams and conditioners try this little hack on how to make your own traveling samples for all of your cosmetic liquid products. Take a straw and it in small sizes. Then using a bobby pin attach it at one end of the straw and using a lighter melt that ends to seal it. Fill the straw with your shampoo and repeat the same process with the bobby pin on that side as well. 7. How to remove a splinter Splinters can be very painful but above all irritating, because they can be difficult to locate and pull them out of your skin. Here is a little trick you can do to remove a painful splinter from your arm. Fill a tiny glass bottle with hot water. Then press your hand on it ( from the side of the splinter) and then lift your hand. This will cause a suction effect and it will essentially pull the splinter out of your hand. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timestamps: 0:13 - How to escape from handcuffs 1:09 - How to cut strings with your hands 1:37 - How to pick a lock 2:17 - DIY Water filter 2:51 - DIY mini oven 3:29 - How to start a fire using a battery 4:37 - DIY candle 5:01 - DIY bio toilet 8:11 - How to remove a splinter 9:12 - Waterproof matches 11:39 - How to open a tin with your hands 13:27 - SOS signal 13:45 - Awesome knot hacks 17:31 - Prison hacks 18:19 - How to make your own foundation --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5Minute.Crafts.Girly/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/5.min.crafts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/5m_crafts Subscribe to 5-Minute MAGIC: http://bit.ly/2ldditZ 5-Minute Crafts KIDS: https://goo.gl/PEuLVt The Bright Side of Youtube: https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/ Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/

10 Ways to Survive an Earthquake, According to Experts

08:41
Find out how you can save yourself and protect your family in case of an earthquake. These survival hacks are important for all of us, even if you don't live in an area with a lot of seismic activity. No one is 100% safe from this disaster because you never know where you might be traveling or living in the future. So pay close attention to these safety recommendations that could save your life one day. Fortifying your house is a good place to start. Make sure you have enough supplies, including food, medications, fire extinguishers, batteries, and flashlights. Have an expert test your house’s foundation so it won’t slip during an earthquake. Depending on where the earthquake finds you, you should follow different survival rules. The most important thing in all cases is not to panic and to memorize the Drop, Cover, and Hold on technique. Drop right where you are onto your hands and knees. This is a safe position that allows you to slowly move towards shelter. Use one arm to cover your head and neck. A massive desk or table makes a good shelter. If there’s nothing in the room to hide under, at least stay away from the windows. Remain in this position and bend over as much as you can to protect your vital organs. Hold on like this until the shaking stops. If you were able to find some shelter, hold onto it using one hand and be prepared to move with it as it might shift. Music: Versace Beat https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Make your house your fortress 0:34 If you’re in a building 1:51 If you’re outside 2:58 If you’re in a car 3:24 If you’re on the beach or near the shore 3:50 If you’re in a wheelchair 4:10 If you’re in a stadium 5:00 If you’re in an elevator 5:25 If you’re in bed 5:59 If you’re trapped under rubble 6:25 Overall evacuation rules 7:15 SUMMARY -Be prepared for disaster: move all beds away from windows, strengthen shelves, cover all glass surfaces, keep extra fire extinguishers, batteries, flashlights, emergency food supplies and medications in your home. -Drop right where you are onto your hands and knees, use one arm to cover your head and neck. Hold on like this until the shaking stops. -Move away from power lines, tall buildings, and roads, try to find some shelter, drop, cover, and hold on. -Slow down and find a safe place to stop the car, stay in it until the earthquake stops. -Collect your things immediately and move to higher ground to avoid tsunami. -Lock your wheels, cover, and hold on. -Get on the floor in the space in front of your seat, bend over and cover your head and neck with your hands. Stay calm and reassure others. -Lie down on the floor, cover your head, wait until the elevator starts working again and get out of it ASAP. -Stay in bed, protect your head with a pillow and lie face down, move away from shelves. -Don’t move, cover your mouth with a cloth or piece of clothing. If you have a whistle, use it so that rescuers can find you. -Close all windows and shut off the gas, water, and electricity in your home. After leaving the building with only the most necessary things with you, find a safe place. Whatever happens, don’t panic. 36 AMAZING HACKS THAT WILL SURPRISE YOU

08:53
Look at the large list of hacks that make life so much easier! I've collected a lot of tricks relating to different areas here - cooking, repair, cleaning, washing - in short, the whole way of life. By the way, with these tips you can prepare the perfect date. First, wash your socks urgently. I’ll tell you how to dry them quickly, in just a minute. Then prepare some treat for the girl. Don’t worry, it’s not necessary to be able to cook for this. Do you know how to peel tangerines, kiwis, apples easily? Now you make a fruit salad in a few minutes and without much effort. By the way, one of the methods is very brutal, do you have a drill? Want a crunchy toast with this salad, but don’t have a toaster? It doesn’t matter, because you probably have an iron. You haven’t eaten bread toasted this way yet! It would be nice to drink some wine now. No corkscrew? But I have a wonderful method of opening a wine bottle. And also, brutal – the girl will definitely appreciate it. By the way, if everything works with her and you two have children, there is advice for this case. You’ll need to make a child's room safe - and you can start by fixing the furniture. But after a romantic date, you return to the usual way of life. And I also have a lot of domestic hacks. How to clean the microwave from the fat, hang pictures on the wall exactly, seal the hole in the wall, open the can, drive a nail without hitting your fingers - all these tips are necessary for any man. You will learn that you can not only add lemon juice to your cocktails, but also use it for cleaning, for washing hands, for keeping apples beautiful. Just sprinkle the sliced apples with lemon juice - and they won’t darken. And of course, you have such a multifunctional tool like scotch tape in your house. How many things have you repaired with it! But here are some more fresh ideas. It turns out that the scotch will help you to lace up the sneakers, pull the splinter out of your finger, drive in the dowel, open a jar of jam, and this is not the whole list. TIMESTAMPS: 2:11 Hang pictures exactly 4:08 Toasting with iron 5:13 Wash the microwave 7:29 Open a bottle of wine ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5Minute.Craf... 13 DIYs TO SURVIVE A BORING DAY AT THE SCHOOL

05:58
FUN DAY AT THE SCHOOL I decided that I am not going to buy a ton of calendars in 2019 In the end, I made this very easy, reusable calendar that I’ve already been waxing on and off all day long. Since every month runs a bit differently, we’ll need to have 5 weeks total on our calendar along with the 7 days of the week. Take each piece of paper and cut five 2.5 x 2.5 inch squares. In the end, you’ll have 35 squares total, 5 of each of the 7 colors. If you don’t have the same size frame, you’ll need to bust out your ruler and figure up the math for what size will work for you. Remember that you’ll have 7 across and 5 down (plus the days across the top). Also be sure to include approximately 0.25 inch spaces to go in between each square and 0.5 inches on the outside near the frame. Trace the back of your frame onto a piece of foam core board. Cut along your marks and ensure that it will fit inside of the photo frame. Trim if necessary. Take your yardstick and draw a line along the bottom edge of your calendar – also mark the center along that line. Mark the center of the middle (Wednesday) block and line up along the straight line and with the middle mark for the board. Put a strip of double stick tape and adhere. Work out from the center to the left and right attaching your 6 other squares, lining up with your pencil drawn line. Draw a straight line up the side and place your squares along that mark, eyeballing spacing along the way. Continue attaching each color, drawing a guideline for each for proper placement. When finished, pull up and replace any squares that appear out of sync with the others. The double side tape should easily come up and lay back down for little tweaks. Since the days of the week are always in the same order, we’re going to mark them across the top. Take your 2.5 inch wide strip of paper and slice off 1 inch of each color so that you have seven 2.5 x 1 inch rectangles in each color. Use a permanent marker to write on the days, use double stick to adhere above the squares for the days. Put your foam core inside of the picture frame and seal up. Light Weights vs Heavy Weights for Muscle Growth

06:33
Conventional wisdom has us convinced that high reps and light weights builds muscle endurance and makes little contribution to gains in muscle mass. However, is this a valid perspective? Well, to determine if heavy and light weight training cause different effects, we need to look at the research. After reviewing the research out there, it seems that using heavy or light weights actually doesn’t matter much in terms of hypertrophy. Studies show that muscle growth tends to be equal despite using light weights or heavy weights (high rep vs low rep). But this is only true when going to near failure, and one benefit of lifting heavy weights is the better strength gains you see when compared to light weights. Based on this, as you’ll see in my video, your best bet is to incorporate high reps with light weights AND low reps with heavy weights into your workout. This will enable you to target both metabolic stress and mechanical tension; both are important mechanisms of muscle growth. 12 Dangerous Android Apps You Need to Delete Immediately

09:33
Pay attention to the list of the most suspicious apps you may come across in Google Play. Delete them from your phone immediately to protect your personal data and extend the life of your phone. Their creators promise the apps will optimize your device, extend the life of your battery and protect your phone from viruses. Some of them are even supposed to be lie detectors and defragmentation devices. In fact, all they give you is ads, and what they do is get access to your data and kill your battery. Considering the huge number of apps created every single day, not even Google can keep track and check the safety of all the new programs. So the security of your device mostly depends on you! They can only analyze how much space certain programs take up, use your phone's resources and collect your personal data. -You will want to delete this app because it consumes tons of data since it’s full of ads and causes a massive drain of your battery. -Battery savers and fast chargers can’t really change the speed of your gadget charging, but can give you endless apps even on lock screen. -If you don't want these apps to get access to all your data, avoid them at all costs. 11 Things Happy Couples Do Before They Go to Sleep

09:29
How to strengthen the connection between your partner and you? What is vital for a happy relationship of a couple? Here’s a list of 11 simple but very effective recommendations from well-known psychologists. They speak about how to behave toward your partner before calling it a night. TIMESTAMPS Switch your phones to silent mode, and put them away 0:53 Forget about work 1:22 Go to bed at the same time as your partner 1:55 Follow a routine 2:27 Have a heart-to-heart talk 2:50 Don't argue or get into heated conversations 3:49 Keep your bedroom child-free 4:17 Don't share the bed with your pets 4:51 Don's drink alcohol or smoke 5:22 Give each other a massage 6:21 Don't forget about hugs and kisses 7:11 Tricks on how to fight insomnia 7:59 SUMMARY - Social media dependency suppresses the release of oxytocin (or, as it is also called, the "Love Hormone") in your body. Too bad as exactly this hormone is responsible for emotional intimacy and bonding. - Try to forget about work, and stop checking your work email when you are in bed. It's so much better to spend that time together and have some rest so that you can be productive at work the following day. - Many people in a relationship don't see each other all day long and have a habit of going to bed at different times. As many as 75 percents of couples do this on a regular basis, typically because one of the partner's works, watches TV, or surfs the net. - Following the same bedtime routine, every day helps you to sleep better. While following a familiar routine, your brain receives a signal of the approaching bedtime and prepares your body for sleep. - Pay attention to each other's feelings. You don't need to give advice or find immediate solutions to the problems. Sometimes we simply want to talk and feel the care and support of our loved ones. - This advice is given by people who have been married for 40-50 years and more. Their experience tells them that no disagreement is worth more than a day's fight. Curt Smith reminds us to try not to involve ourselves in heated arguments before going to sleep. Fighting in bed never helps to solve a problem. - Another psychologist, Michael Viner-Davis, is sure that the only time you can let your children sleep in your bed is when they have a nightmare. At all other times, your bedroom should be your private space. - As reported in the research of the University of Kansas, 63 percent of people who sleep with their pets don't get enough sleep. Your pet can't be asleep through the whole night and often disturbs your rest. - Many couples like to have a glass of wine before going to bed to create a romantic atmosphere. However, while your body is digesting alcohol, the restorative period of your sleep becomes shorter. - Specialists from the National Foundation of Sleep confirm that a light and relaxing massage before going to bed is highly beneficial. It improves the quality of your sleep, reduces anxiety, and brings couples closer together. - Remember to kiss your partner before going to sleep as well as to cuddle for a few minutes when you are already in bed. Kissing always evokes positive emotions. Psychologists are confident that if you hug when falling asleep, your relationship is not in trouble. David Klow, a family therapist, advises the couples that have issues with communication to hug each other. 24 COOL DIYs TO MAKE WITH YOUR KIDS

13:29
COOL DIYs FOR YOUR KIDS Mike, my sweet nephew and I had fun building this LEGO desk organizer. 12 Rules All Royal Family Members Have to Follow

10:11
Take a look at how the most famous prince and princess — the children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — are brought up. Spoiler: they even have to clean their rooms themselves. TIMESTAMPS A title is no reason to have an idle lifestyle. 0:31 Respect for other people’s work. 1:06 A family is the number one priority. 1:55 Everyone has the right to freely express their thoughts. 2:39 Education is indispensable. 3:22 You’ve got to love sports. 4:15 People of all ages should have etiquette. 5:19 You can relax at home. 5:49 Physical punishment is out of the question. 6:18 Tablets and computers are toys for adults. 6:52 Say "yes" to cartoons. 7:50 Reasonable consumption as a lifestyle. 8:44 SUMMARY - In the family of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, there’s only one babysitter that helps with the children. All duties having to do with feeding, bathing, and walking with the kids are done by the parents. Moreover, William goes to work as a helicopter pilot in the emergency medical services, and the children are well aware of this. - Queen Elizabeth II’s great-grandchildren understand from a very early age that all types of work should be valued, whether it’s a mother preparing dinner or a maid cleaning the house. This is why George and Charlotte know that they must finish their meals neatly and pick up after themselves. - During dinner, the children sit together with the adults, despite pre-existing traditions that forbade this. Need we say more? Kids should learn from an early age that family is everything. If you show them what it means to love and take care of each other, they’ll be learning from a good role model. - “Seeing children communicating with each other at school, I understand that we live in an absolutely different time. We are being replaced by generations that aren’t afraid to declare things that really worry them," says Prince William. - Reading books is a favorite pastime of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Kate often takes the children to exhibitions and museums. Their favorite museum is the Museum of Natural History in London. - The Duke and Duchess are known for their love of sport. Kate is fond of field hockey, and William likes to play football, basketball, and polo. Prince George and Princess Charlotte haven’t shown any interest in sports yet, but their parents are sure that their children will follow in their steps in the future. - Most people know that they can be kicked out of public events and places if they’re causing a scene. But even royal children aren’t immune to the strict rules of public decency. If the prince or princess gets too naughty, they’re left at home during official outings. - To give your kids and yourself some peace of mind, try finding them a distraction from their rambunctious fun. Some smart toys, educational games, or good old Legos could do the trick. - No matter how badly the children behave, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge never spank their children. The parents influence their kids using their own special techniques. - George and Charlotte spend a lot of time outside riding bikes and jumping in puddles. They’re very restricted, however, when it comes to using electronic devices. Kate and William think that these “toys” are better suited for older ages, while balls, jump ropes, and outdoor games are the best way to develop fantasy and imagination in young ones. - Most families have at least one TV set in their home, so watching TV is a commonplace practice. However, the royal couple allots their children a specific time for enjoying their favorite cartoons. - Kate and William lead a lifestyle that isn’t all about consumption. They don’t go out and buy the latest, fashionable clothes, which is why you can often see Prince George or Princess Charlotte wearing their parents’ old hand-me-downs or even clothes from Uncle Harry’s childhood. If it’s absolutely necessary to buy something new, the Duchess skips on luxury clothing and sticks to standard brands. How Blind People Actually See the World

07:39
How do blind people see the world? Do blind people see dreams? Most people imagine that what the blind see is complete blackness. But, it’s not that “black-and-white”, so to say. There are different degrees and causes of blindness that affect what blind people can see. What's functional blindness? When a lot of us think of blindness, we only imagine total blindness. But there is something called functional blindness as well. It means different things in different countries. In the US, normal vision is 20/20, and the higher the second number, the worse the vision. A person with 20/200 vision is considered to have functional blindness, which means they can see at 20 feet what a person with normal eyesight can see at 200 feet. It could also mean the person has a visual field of 20 degrees or less, whereas normal is between 60 and 100 degrees. There are different types of functional blindness with varying levels of severity. TIMESTAMPS Blind from birth 0:25 People who lost their eyesight 1:10 Legally blind 2:07 Able to perceive light 3:17 Tunnel vision 3:33 Do blind people see images in their dreams? 4:04 Using other senses 5:21 Perceiving light non-visually 6:14 SUMMARY - People who are blind from birth obviously have never had the ability to see. And it’s not really our eyes that actually see information but the brain that processes it. So if the brain receives no signals from the eyes to process, a person can see nothing. - Becoming totally blind, that is, losing light perception altogether, is extremely rare. It happens to those who have lost the connection between the eyes and the brain. This can happen when the brain or optic nerve is damaged or when the eyes are removed. - A legally blind person can see people and large objects but they’re out of focus. They can perceive colors or even see things in focus but only at a certain distance, perhaps only as far as right in front of their face. In some cases, everything they see is blurry and hazy. - Keeping light perception doesn’t help blind people see clearly, but it does help them distinguish between light and dark, day and night. Some of them can also tell where the light’s coming from. - People with tunnel vision look at the world kind of like through a narrow tube, hence the name. They might see things pretty clearly, but only within a field of vision less than 10 degrees. - A person who once could see and then lost their vision may see dreams like sighted people do, with bright vivid images. Legally blind people can also see images while they’re sleeping. - Another popular question concerning people with impairment or loss of vision is if their other senses get stronger. Researchers believe it’s true. Blind people remember how different objects smell and often use hearing and touch to find their way around. - And it’s possible that totally blind people have their own way of perceiving light. In 1923 Harvard graduate student Clyde Keeler conducted some research on blind mice. Although their eyes lacked certain parts necessary for vision, they still followed day-night cycles. Basic English Grammar: Parts of Speech – noun, verb, adjective, pronoun, adverb...

20:06
In this video, I will go over the different parts of speech in English. We will be looking at the use of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. You will also learn how to arrange them in a grammatically correct sentence. Also, I will teach you in what order to place the adjectives if you have more than one. For example, do you have a "big, white, excitable dog" or a "white, excitable, big dog"? Find out by watching this lesson and doing the quiz afterwards at https://www.engvid.com/basic-english-grammar-parts-of-speech/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. James from engVid. I would like to talk about something that will help you understand English, and it's two things. Number one are parts of speech. What are the parts of speech and how do you use them? The second is called syntax, which is a very complicated word for word order. Where do you put the words in a sentence? In some languages they have a different word order, some languages it doesn't really matter, but what my job today is, is to show you where the words go and: What do they basically mean-okay-in the parts of speech? As E said: "Words. Where do they go?" Now, if you're new to English or even if you're an intermediate student, sometimes this causes you problems. Right? You've heard the terms: "preposition", "determiner", "syntax", and you're like: "Oh, it's so complicated." Today's lesson will be simple. You can go over this again and again. It will help you understand and use English better. So I'm going to start off with the most basic part of parts of speech, and I want to start with the things part. Things. Not actions, but things. I am a person. My watch is a thing. Okay? An animal, a cat or a dog, or an apple, these are things. We call these things nouns, because nouns name people - Hi, I'm James; places - Toronto, Ontario; things - my watch; animals - a cat, meow; and food - an apple. Okay? These are nouns. Example: boy, dog, apple. Okay? Nouns name these things. But sometimes you don't want to keep using the same noun again and again. "James ate the apple and James walked his dog as James talked to his friend, Oliver, and then James..." It gets what we call repetitive and boring, and it also makes the sentences go really slow. And sometimes we want to use the noun in a different way. So in this case we introduce what's called pronouns. Pronouns can replace nouns in a sentence. So now you could say something like this: "James ate the apple and he walked his dog." Instead of: "James ate the apple and James walked his dog", we can use a pronoun to replace it and make it simpler. We still know we're talking about James. Now, we talked about word order or syntax. Let me explain this. In order to use a pronoun first you must use the noun. Okay? You introduce the noun and then you can replace it with a pronoun. That's why you see number one then number two. You cannot just start with a pronoun. If I started a sentence at the beginning: "He went to the store." The very first thing you will say to me is: "Who's he?" I go: "Oh, James went to the store and he bought the apples there." And you go: "Oh, now I know who he is." So, pronouns kind of number two because you have to actually introduce first with a noun, then you can replace it with a pronoun. Now, we have several types of pronouns. I'm just going to go over and show you a couple of them so you get an idea. Pronouns include: "I", "we", which are subject pronouns. Object pronouns when we're talking about something that's not us, but something on the other side that receives action, as a subject pronoun I do things. I run. Right? We eat dinner. We're talking to them. Now, when we say "them", you go: "What?" Well, they are receiving it and we call those object pronouns. Okay? So the most basic ones are subject and object pronouns. One is doing something, one is receiving. There are reflexive pronouns, like: "himself" where somebody is talking about themselves. "He built the house himself." So he's talking about him as an object, but reflecting it back to himself. We call it reflexive pronoun. Okay? There are others, but I'm not going to get into them right now because I want to keep this simple just so you know what the parts of speech are, and you can always come to engVid to come and see other lessons in which we go deeply into reflexive pronouns, object and subject pronouns. Okay? Cool. So we talked about how pronouns can replace nouns, and we're good with that. Yeah? So let's go to stage number three, because once you've replaced them, how do you know the difference between them? Apple, apple. I don't know. That's when we have adjectives. Adjectives. The word itself can be broken into two parts: "ject" and "ad". But remember... Do you remember when I said subject and object, and I gave you the example? I said, for instance: "I" is a subject pronoun. Right? Subject, yeah, I'm good at this.

Transcript: Hi and welcome to this series of lessons on the parts of speech My name is Ganesh and in this first lesson I'm going to give you a quick Introduction to the eight parts of speech. In the following lessons we'll learn more in detail about each part of speech. Before we start just remember if you have any questions at all you just have to let me know in the comments section below and I will talk to you there. OK so first of all what is a part of speech? Well a part of speech is just the name given to a word based on the job that it does in a sentence. Think of parts of speech as being kind of like job titles Just like a person can be a teacher or a doctor or a lawyer - a word can be a verb, an adjective, a noun etc depending on the job that it does in a sentence And these can be really useful to learn because when you're studying grammar you will come across terms like these, you will come across terms like nouns, verbs and adjectives, and if you know what they mean it can help you to speed up your study of grammar. Alright so how many parts of speech are there? There are eight parts of speech and we start by talking about the verb. We start with the verb because verbs are probably the most important words in the English language, and that is for two reasons: first every sentence in English must have a verb You cannot have sentences without verbs in English, and the second reason is that only verbs have tenses. I'm sure you know about past tense, present tense and future tense That's how we talk about different times and to do that we change the forms of verbs. So verbs are really important. So what does a verb do? Well a verb is a word that shows an action or a state - state means a situation. For example in the sentence Dylan plays tennis three times a week. In the sentence the verb is play because that's the action, and we're saying plays because for he,she and it we say plays - we add the 's' to the verb in the present tense, so "Dylan plays." In this next sentence "I am a teacher" - can you tell me which is the verb? The verb is 'am; - that's basically just the verb to be - but we say I am, you are, he is etc. so "I am a teacher" Now I want you to notice a very important difference between these two sentences. Notice that in the first sentence we are talking about a physical action because playing is something that we do physically. But in the second sentence we are not talking about any physical action - we're just saying "I am a teacher." We call that a state, that means a situation. So verbs can show actions or they can show states or situations. Those are the two types of verbs OK the next part of speech is the noun. A noun is the name given to a person, place, animal, thing, feeling or idea. For example here's a sentence with a lot of nouns - "Rosie went to Malta on vacation with her family last year." Can you identify all the nouns in the sentence? Well the first noun is Rosie - it's the name of a person. The second noun is Malta Malta is the name of a place. It's actually a beautiful small little island country in Europe. Malta is a place. The next noun is vacation. Vacation is the name given to a type of trip the people take, and the noun after that is family What's a family? A family is a group of people who are related - mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters etc. and the last noun in the sentence is year - a year is just 365 days or the time that it takes the earth to go around the Sun. Now of course nouns can also be animals like dogs or cats or a noun could be a thing like watch, pen, t-shirt etc. Or it could be a feeling such as love or anger Those are all nouns. What's a pronoun then? A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun - replaces means it takes the place of a noun. But you might ask - why should a pronoun do that? Well take a look at this sentence -
