Here are 3 easy ways to develop your niche as a freight broker or freight agent.
1. By equipment type - Van, Reefer, Flatbed, RGN, etc. 1:42
2. By product type or industry - Produce, Steel, Bottle Beverages, Heavy Haul, etc. 2:12
3. By Geography - Northeast outbound, TX outbound, Chicago outbound, other lane specific niches including cross boarder freight. 2:35
4. A hyrbrid of 1, 2 or 3 which is what I did when I first got started. 2:58
Back in 2003 I knew van carriers needed freight out of the Northeastern part of the US, states like NY, PA, NJ, MA, CT, ME, etc so I focused on developing carrier and customer relationships in that region. Developing a niche paid off for me and it can pay off your too if you take the time and stay focused.
After we developed that market we expanding to Reefer freight and later to flatbed freight and now we move freight from coast to coast on van, reefer and flatbeds.
