Buy Business Networking For Dummies on Amazon Amazon.co.uk: http://goo.gl/yzhn6a (Affiliate link) Amazon.com: http://goo.gl/NBWLtq (Affiliate link) Business Networking Tips for Small Business and Professional Networking Events by Jill Simpson from DEVA Training in Kilmarnock, Scotland. Jill helps clients to develop the skills and confidence necessary to change and grow. Attending small business and professional networking events can be a very effective way to grow your business, whether to gain clients, suppliers or collaborators. Naturally attending a networking event for the first time can be a daunting challenge, especially if you are not a natural extrovert. However if you learn and act on these five networking tips your networking will not only be more effective but also much more enjoyable. Remember you are there for a reason. Don't waste the opportunity by hiding or sticking to the one person you already know, the more people you meet the greater your chance of establishing new and useful business relationships. The advantage that these near-social events bring is that you are meeting people face to face and that helps to build trust. Even though the atmosphere maybe relaxed do not treat the networking event as a party where you can let your hair down, it is still a professional event. If you can check out the guest list beforehand do so and ask the organiser to introduce you to the people you really want to meet. One mistake that networking newbies make is they think this is an opportunity to sell. That might be your ultimate goal but what you are seeking to do is make new contacts and get to know more about them. The more you understand their needs the better placed you are to solve the problems in their business. Show a genuine interest in the people you meet and listen to them, you will win their appreciation and trust. What’s more, you will start to identify opportunities for building new business relationships. Only collect business cards of people you know you would like to talk to again; be sure and add them to your database. Make sure you follow-up after the event. Keep it simple; invite someone for coffee, send information that might be interesting to them, recommend them if that seems appropriate. Good relationships take time and effort, and that’s also true of business relationships. Finally listen, be courteous, be honest and smile. If you enjoy your networking it shows and the people you meet are more likely to enjoy your company, to like you and develop a profitable relationship with you. A great resource for networkers is Networking for Dummies by Stefan Thomas, available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JG02ZEY?creativeASIN=B00JG02ZEY&linkCode=w01&linkId=MIRR5JUD5U43M3SX&ref_=as_sl_pc_ss_til&tag=toshlubeprod-20 For more background on Business Networking see this article on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_networking To watch “Business Networking Tips for Small Business and Professional Networking Events” follow this link: https://youtu.be/ZORcdG5uzMM Business networking, networking tips, small business, networking events, business network, professional networking, networking, 5TopTipsTV

Networking Tips - Making Most Out of Professional Networking Events- as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. I'm Arden Clise with Clise Etiquette. To get the most out of a networking event there are four things you can do: Number one: Before the function find out who is attending and decide who you want to meet with. That way you are more focused in your networking. Number two: As soon as you get to the event, look for the person or the people that you want to meet. And try to find them as soon as possible so you do not miss them. If you do not know who they are, ask someone involved with the event to introduce you. Number three: Spend no more than about five minutes per person talking to them. That way you really get a a chance to mingle and meet a lot of different people. And in networking we are only really good for about five minutes of small talk. Number four: Follow up with the people you have connected with. That is probably the most important part about networking. Invite them to connect with you on linkedin and be sure to personalize the message so that they know where you met or what you talked about. Another thing you can do is to invite them out for coffee or for lunch. Be sure to stay in touch, so that you grow your network.

How to Reduce Anxiety at Networking Events - Business Networking Tips- as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Networking is scary for most people so, if you can remember that, it will help you feel less nervous. When you walk into a networking event and you do not know anyone, look for someone involved with the event like the event host or someone wearing a ribbon, someone who looks official and ask them to introduce you to a few people. If you cannot find someone involved with the event then, walk up to groups of three or more and say something like, 'you look like fun group.' And usually you will get a laugh and then, introduce yourself. Or you can walk up to someone standing alone and introduce yourself. Maybe, say something like, 'have you been to this event before' or 'have you heard this speaker before?' They will be grateful that you took the time to reach out to them. Remember, networking can be scary but be brave, be friendly and you will do great.

This is Innovate UK’s 4th installment of the essential selection business tips and advice series. This video covers tips on business networking for start-ups and SMEs. Whether a start-up, small business or SME there may be useful advice that you haven't considered. Make sure you watch the video and subscribe to our channel for more startup and SME advice. The video outlines and explains the most effective ways for businesses to maximise their networking ROI, and includes actionable advice supported by comments from industry experts and investors. The tips are as follows: 1) Target events that match your business goals Are you looking for a partner, suppliers, an investor, a mentor, or new customers? Look for events that provide opportunities to meet people who can help you achieve your goals. 2) Make connections before the event Organisers try to create a pre-event ‘buzz’. Be sure to take part in the conversations that create that sense of excitement and anticipation. Get a list of attendees and contact those you are interested in to request a quick chat. This makes key people aware of you and saves time on introductions on the day. 3) Maximise the networking opportunity during the event Always listen first when you meet someone but have a well-rehearsed ‘elevator pitch’ ready for when they ask you to tell them about your business. Make yourself visible to attendees and influencers by using event hashtags on your smart phone and other social media assets. 4) Follow-up with your new contacts Maintain momentum with the people you have met – with an email or a quick phone call. Discuss the event and your participation through social media, blogs and forums. This will increase your visibility and keep you on your contacts’ radar. Evaluate the event’s success against the goals you set and then begin searching and planning for your next event. http://EnergizeYourOutlook.com In a series of interviews with Business Networking Expert, Laura Morales, she stresses the importance of doing some homework in advance of a networking event. This video segment addresses how to to that homework to prepare for an event. You have probably noticed from other videos that I talk a lot about doing your homework as it relates to networking. I’m a big advocate of using Google as a research tool and using Google Images to help you find pictures of people you want to meet. Thus, to prepare for a networking event, I recommend taking a little bit of time to do some homework in advance of an event as it can help you make a very good impression. For example, if you want to meet someone who you know will be in attendance at a particular event, use Google to learn about them, and if you don’t already know what they look like, use Google Images to find a picture of them. Pick out something interesting, fascinating, or admirable about them, and when you meet them, compliment them about whatever it is you learned. It demonstrates to them that you took some time to find out about them, their career, and/or their achievements. You will leave a good impression on that person, and it also provides an opportunity to follow up with them. Tips on Greeting People at a Networking Event - Professional Etiquette Guide - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. If you want to greet someone at a networking event, simply walk up to that person, extend your hand and say your first and last name and then tell something about yourself. Remember to look at their name tag so you can pronounce their name correctly. And then you will want to ask them an open ended question. For example you could say, how do you know the host or hostess? What did you enjoy most about today's conference? Make sure you smile, make small talk, listen and then conclude the conversation with a handshake.

Visit my blog at http://www.hankblank.com You can connect with me on Linkedin: http://www.linkedin.com/in/hankblankcom Follow my updates on twitter @hankblank Facebook http://www.facebook.com/hankblank I have spoken on college campuses for many years now. The thought of networking was a foreign concept to students in the past. Oh, and I am not talking about being on Facebook. That is socializing, not really networking in a business sense. I think when students thought of networking they thought "UGH, I rather stick a fork in my eye!" I think attitudes are changing now because students see the impact of the recession in their households and know they need a lot of tools to successfully enter the job market. So here are some of my networking tips for college students who hate to network. First, hope is not a plan. When my kids were growing up I used to have a saying on my fridge. "Hope is Not a Plan." I hope I get into that class, I hope I pass, I hope I graduate etc. You need a plan of action to achieve your academic goals and it is the same with networking. You should set a strategy for what you want to achieve and who you need to meet to get you there. You need to intensively focus your activities on getting a job. That's key today. You need to use all of the tools available to you. You don't have much of a choice. That means attending events where there are lots of adults versus student networking groups. Hey, don't get me wrong, I think being involved with PRSA student chapters is great but the jobs and internships are at the mainstream PRSA and IABC Chapters. It is pretty basic but you need business cards. No ifs, ands, or buts. If you have any design or creative courses at your school, connect with those people and have them design your cards so they are unique and distinctive. Believe me gents, handing out business cards will make you look like much less of a... (I will let you fill in the blanks). Register your own domain name by buying your name. You may move a lot but your personal URL will be your permanent address. It will help your SEO and the background checks that will be done in the future, will be yours forever. Find your favorite geek to build you a one page landing page. You will keep building it for the rest of your life and that's what websites will become in the future. Then, hit your parents up for a budget to attend networking events. The majority of events have student rates. I think your parents will be more receptive to funding you attending networking events than going to Vegas for the weekend. You need to master Linkedin. You have no choice because that is what HR departments use. Use a business type photo on your profile. I can guarantee that you will look very impressive if you have a complete profile with lots of connections and recommendations. Get recommendations from your Profs, part time jobs, volunteer connections etc. Post updates daily, not about your favorite taco but about the networking events you are going to attend. Another tip is don't think of your parents friends as old people. Look at them as data bases, Linkedin with them. If they are in a field you are interested in, ask for a courtesy interview. Trust me, they will be eager to help. Most parents are instilled with secret wiring code that says you must help your friends and peers children. It is an unwritten rule. Leverage it. Create the world you want to live in the future by forming it with your networking activity today. If you want to connect with people with lots of social currency then volunteer and attend fund raising events which are excellent networking events. A lot of people prior to the recession used to live in a world of "this is what I got." We saw a lot of that in the last decade. It didn't last and neither did its values. These are the times to live in a world of "this is how I can help." Let it define your networking strategy. Remember it is up to you to reinvent the world to your vision and create the promise of change that all ages embrace.

http://donshanonline.com/business-networking-tips/ One of the best ways to generate fresh leads for your business is to attend networking events. Here are a few of the ways you could look for events in your area: Meetup events BNI Chapter meetings Chamber of Commerce meetings Women’s Networking Organisations Cocktail mixers Some of the above are more casual and some are more professional. Either way, these are great ways to meet people in person and grow your network. Some tips to remember for your next business networking event: 1. Be prepared to answer the most common question: “What do you do?” Prepare, practice and commit to memory a short sentence or two about the benefit of your product or service. Most people simply state the name of their company or vaguely mention the industry they are in and don’t get specific enough for the other person to make sense. Suggested elevator pitch: Option 1: I help ___________(target prospect) to ___________(benefit). How about you? eg, I help realtors to generate more leads and follow up with their clients. How about you? Options 2: (I share the structure in the video below) 2. Have a strategy for the networking event. The goals shouldn’t be to simply meet everyone and pass them your business card. The goal should be to get to know at least a handful of people and build a relationship with them. So that even a week or two after the event, they remember who you are and what you do. Understand their business and ask “What would be a good referral for you?” Do your best to refer someone to them or introduce them to a potential joint venture partner. Add value to their life and business before you decide to ask for something or promote your agenda on them.

In the second half of the twentieth century, the concept of networking was promoted to help business people to build their social capital. In the US, workplace equity advocates encouraged business networking by members of marginalized groups (e.g., women, African-Americans, etc.) to identify and address the challenges barring them from professional success. Mainstream business literature subsequently adopted the terms and concepts, promoted them as pathways to success for all career climbers. Since the closing decades of the twentieth century, "networking" has become an accepted term and concept in American society. In the 2000s, "networking" has expanded beyond its roots as a business practice to the point that parents meeting to share child-rearing tips to scientists meeting research colleagues are described as engaging in "networking". A business network is a type of business social network which is developed to help business people connect with other managers and entrepreneurs to further each other's business interests by forming mutually beneficial business relationships. Business networking is a way of leveraging your business and personal connections to help bring you regular supply of new business. There are several prominent business networking organizations that create models of networking events that, when followed, allow the business person to build new business relationships and generate business opportunities at the same time. A professional network service is an implementation of information technology in support of business networking. Chambers of Commerce and other business-oriented groups may also organize networking activities. There are multiple different types of networking groups though and the best type for each individuals varies depending on the business they are in and prospects they want to meet. A personal network is a set of human contacts known to an individual, with whom that individual would expect to interact at intervals to support a given set of activities. In other words, a personal network is a group of caring, dedicated people who are committed to maintain a relationship with a person in order to support a given set of activities. Having a strong personal network requires being connected to a network of resources for mutual development and growth. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel

I was one of a handful of creatives selected nationwide and sent to New York to live and work for 3 months in the summer of 2010. It was one of the first nights and there was a major networking event where all of the interns from a myriad of NYC advertising agencies got to mingle with ad agency executives. I quickly became distraught and overwhelmed by the overstimulation of the event that I ran into the bathroom and hid. True story. I remember calling my girlfriend at the time, and then my dad saying I wanted to go home. I didn't want to be around all the 'fakeness' of events like these — it was horrible. And so I ended up leaving the event with no contacts and no connections. It was a huge wasted opportunity, all because I wasn't prepared and had no idea how to actually network. Plus being an introvert who likes to keep to myself hindered me further. Fast forward a handful of years later, and I've gotten so much better at networking events. Most notably, over the past 4 years I've attended a conference down in Atlanta, Georgia called MenFluential (formerly StyleCon). It's a gathering of entrepreneurs, influencers and men from all over the world, striving to be their best selves. These power networking tips and tactics are going to be from my experience attending conferences over the years — what I've picked up on and how you can make the most of your next conference to further your big vision and goals. Above all, you've got to have a game plan. This video contains some of my best advice to help you craft your game plan. Through all of this experience attending events, I've been able to shake the shyness and unlock some great Networking Tips that I believe can help anyone (yes, shy, introverts, extroverts, attendees, speakers, etc) attend a conference and build relationships with people they're meeting at the events. ==== Here's a few tips for folks getting ready for conference season 🎤 1) Engage with attendees using the Hashtag beforehand. 2) Best conference icebreaker: "Favourite talk so far?" 3) Write additional info + reminders on biz cards. 4) Don't be afraid to join random group convos in the halls. 5) Remember the Golden Rule. Most people don't mind randoms saying hello. Most people don't mind random conversations. Most people don't mind you joining their table at lunch. 6) Join the event FB Group and look out for other events. 7) Say 'yes' to lunches off-site with cool people. 8) Don't be creepy/stalkerish. Networking tips are always helpful. I'm Jessica Sitomer from the Greenlight Coach dot com and I've answered my 10 most frequently asked questions now I'm going to answer my 10 should be asked questions this is my number 1 should be asked question. "What should I be doing at a networking event? The first thing you should do at a networking event is to set a goal for how many people you want to meet at that event, because otherwise people check off that they went to networking events but didn't meet anyone new. The second thing you want to do is create relationships with people. The big mistake people make is that they just hand out cards but did not build a relationship with the people. The third thing is exchange business cards once you've created the relationship and take notes on the card. He looked like Ross from Friends, we talked about the Star Trek Movie and we met at an indie filmmaker event and then write what you talked about so you have something to follow up about.
