Sometimes using terms when you're learning a language can hurt more than it helps. This is possibly one of those times. But we need to refer to stuff somehow, right? In today's lesson, I go over Definite & Indefinite Articles in Spanish. If you don't know what those are, join the club. Even when I learned Spanish, since I learned on my own, I never knew what those were. Bottom line, it doesn't really matter, as long as you know how to use them. A definite article is simple "the". When you say "the cookie", everybody knows exactly which cookie is being talked about. Which cookie you want is definite. The opposite of that, an indefinite article is when you say "a cookie". Now, you are just saying give me "a" cookie among the many cookies. Which cookie you want is NOT definite. In the plural form, the indefinite article is basically "some" or "a few". I explain it all in the video and of course, give you the lowdown on the Spanish equivalents. So watch the video, do the Articles Worksheet available @ https://spanishdude.com/quickies/articles/ and leave me a comment or message me if you have any questions at all or need some clearing up. Grammar loves to talk about the definite and indefinite article in Spanish but what is it really and how does it work? Why is it important? Watch this video for the answer! DOWNLOAD THE COURSE BOOK: https://spanishwithpaul.com/ MINI COURSE SERIES: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKcUX0UhNu4XgKYZTI-bvVIzadPn-rkUQ MONDAY LESSON SERIES: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKcUX0UhNu4W0yZ3BLFuMFavmEpLg1VUU Hi everyone, Paul here :) You know what... this lesson has a fancy title but it's really about something very simple (in English anyway)... the word "the". Now there are 2 reasons why the definite article (the) is much more complicated in Spanish than in English and in this lesson I'll reveal how the definite article works, how it's different from what we're used to in English and why it's important to embrace (and use) those differences. For many of you, this lesson will feel a little strange but in the end, it'll be a real eye opener! Enjoy and let me know what you think, Paul P.S - For those of you wanting more, my complete course (away from YouTube) is ready! It'll take you all the way into full conversational fluency as painlessly as possible as well as 1-1 access to me personally to coach you every step of the way :-)

*Notice to teachers, the biological term "libido" is mentioned in this video. Not meant to be offensive. It's just a word with gender in Spanish.* In this video, we're going to be covering 10 rules (with exceptions) for how to know if a noun will be masculine or feminine in Spanish. Please remember that you don't have to memorize this list of words/rules! But it might be a nice reference for you to watch every now and again. And Native speakers don't even pay attention to the "rules". You'll notice that with animals especially they might make a gender for an animal that is grammatically genderless. Regardless, hopefully you find this helpful! Enjoy! *Alerta could be masculine or feminine but is more often seen feminine.

Spanish lessons - In general, the definite article can be used whenever we say “the” in English. However, sometimes the definite article is used in Spanish when we don’t say “the” in English. In this video lesson we are going to look a 4 cases where you must use the definite article in Spanish but that in English would be incorrect. The 4 cases we are going to talk about in the video are the following: WITH GENERIC OR ABSTRACT NOUNS Use the definite article when speaking generally or abstractly about a noun. WITH DAYS OF THE WEEK Use the definite article with days of the week to say on. WITH TITLES The definite article is used with titles when talking ABOUT people but not when talking TO them. WITH PARTS OF THE BODY The definite article is used with parts of the body and personal possessions when we would ordinarily use possessive pronouns, such as mi (my) or su (his, her) in English. You may need to watch this video a few times to fully understand when you have to use the definite article in Spanish. We want to make these videos as useful as possible so we have provided the translation of every word that is taught. Also we have put subtitles both in English and Spanish so that you can practice even more efficiently. We hope you enjoy this lesson. Let us know with a comment and please subscribe to our channel. If you've already gone through The Sexualization of Nouns, Plural Forms of Nouns and Definite & Indefinite Articles, this lesson will be very easy. In Spanish, you have to make the adjectives match the nouns they are describing. So, if the noun is singular masculine, the adjective has to be singular, masculine too. Luckily, the rules for changing the adjective from masculine to feminine and from singular to plural are pretty much the same as for the nouns. That's why this will be quite easy if you already have that down. Now, there are a couple tricky parts with adjectives. In this lesson, not only do I tell you the rules and exceptions to the rules for adjectives, but I go over those tricky parts to. Watch the video. Memorize the words at https://spanishdude.com/quickies/adjectives then do the Adjectives Worksheet--and you'll have this adjective thing down 100%. It's not difficult if you just focus for about 30-60 minutes. Then you'll never have to worry about it again.
