It’s Cindy. We are down to module 3 and this is the module where we’re going to talk about Character Formatting. Basically what this means is that when you have letters or numbers you’ll want to change the original way that they look. So text, for example, is normally black and it’s a certain size and a certain font. You’ll want to change those and that’s called Formatting. You’re going to see that when we get to module 4 that’s where we’ll talk about formatting that paragraphs take on. But for now we’re going to talk about character formatting. Now this is section 1 and I want to start this module with talking to you a little bit about the AutoCorrect feature and some of the options available with it. So let me go ahead and flip over to a blank document and I’ll show you what I’m talking about. There are certain things that are part of what we call the AutoCorrect feature and let me show you what a few of those things are. One of the most common things is that there are certain words that if you misspell them it will spell them correctly for you. The word The is a great example. If I spell it T-E-H and watch when I hit the Spacebar it spells it correctly for me. Can is another one. A-C-N. If I spell it that way it’ll spell it correctly. That’s because when I show you the AutoCorrect feature in a few minutes you’ll see that if it’s a commonly misspelled word there’s a list of those in here and if it’s in that list it’ll change it for you. Here’s a couple of other things. Fractions. If I type ½, for example, notice how when I space it looks like ½ or ¼. Fractions are another part of AutoCorrect. How about an ordinal? Do you know what an ordinal is? An ordinal is the word 1st, like this. When you space the S-T becomes superscript is what they call that. 2nd, that’s another good example. Also hyperlinks. So if you typed any email address or any website what’ll happen is once you get that email address or the website types and you space it’ll become a hyperlink automatically. That means that I can take my mouse and see how when I point to the word it says Control-Click to follow the link. That means if I hold the Control key and I click I’ll actually go to that particular website because it’s a hyperlink. So I’m going to go ahead and delete some of this stuff. By the way, Control and the letter A will select everything and then I’ll just hit Delete on the keyboard. We’re going to be looking at selecting text in the next section. So just know for now Control-A selects everything. Here’s some other things that are part of AutoCorrect. If I type three dashes from my keyboard like this and I hit the Enter key notice it gives me a straight line all the way across. So if I need several of those I can do that several different times and I have several lines. And what’s really cool about this is you can type on these lines. See that? Otherwise if you had types the dash like a lot of people do, the dashes just move over and it’s a big mess. So I’m going to go ahead and select all that and delete it. And here’s how you type bold lines. You’re going to do underscores. Hold Shift, hit three dashes, let go of Shift, and Enter. And now you have a bold line. Sorry, we couldn't fit the entire video transcription here since YouTube only allows 5000 characters.

Students in my courses should follow these instructions for configuring their grammar and style checker in Word 2007. One immediate benefit is that Word will automatically edit as you type so that you do not have to worry about how many spaces you insert after a period or whether to put a comma or period inside or outside of the closing quotation marks: Word can be set to apply the correct rule in each case.

Updated version of this video https://youtu.be/etAW892xONw When dragging and dropping images into a word document I used to format each individual one to the correct size and position. When continuing to type these images would become distorted, disappear, or be cut in half across the page...extremely frustrating... However.... This videos shows you how to drag and drop images into a word document without the images exploding across the page and nudging all your typing where you don't want it. This method allows you to easily control the size of the images particularly when inserting a number of images into one document. Purchase Microsoft Office for PC here - https://amzn.to/2L4FM7K I may earn a small commission from my endorsements, recommendations, testimonials and/or link to any products or services from this website. First, insert a table from the ‘table’ icon in the ‘INSERT’ tab. Your table can contain as many rows and columns as you want, but remember this will dictate how many images will be displayed on your page. At this stage you can adjust the margins if you need the images closer to the edge of your page. If your table doesn’t adjust to the margin change, just delete it and re-insert it (that’s why you should do it at this stage). It’s now time to adjust the size of your table cells to fit your images into. Select the table by clicking and dragging your cursor across the whole table or clicking the square at the top left corner of the table. In TABLE TOOL under the ‘Layout’ tab you will see the width and height boxes and it’s here you can enter your chosen sizes. You will need to play around with these measurements to suit your requirements. Once you have created the perfect table to insert images you can now remove the borders and only leave a faint dotted line that won’t appear when printed or saved as a PDF. To achieve this highlight the table as before and in the HOME tab click on ‘borders’ and a drop down menu will appear with border options, click on ‘no borders’. If your border completely disappear click on the same border tab again and go to the bottom and click on ‘show gridlines’. You should now see a faint border lines. Now this is where the crucial part takes place. You have to tell Word NOT TO MOVE THE TABLE BORDERS AND SET THEM IN STONE….RIGID….WITHOUT MOVING. Highlight the table once again, go to TALE TOOLS – LAYOUT and click on ‘Autofit’ and simply click on ‘fixed column width’. This will fix the width of your columns, but WAIT, we’re not finished just yet, we have to fix the height in place. To do this we need to once again make sure the table is highlighted and right click anywhere on the table. A drop-down menu will now appear, scroll down to TABLE PROPERTIES, you will now see a dialogue box, click on the ‘columns’ tab and where is says ‘row height is’ and a dialogue box saying ‘at least’, click on the down arrow to the right and you should see the option to click ‘exactly’ (this is the little magic button). Click on this option and click OK. Your table is now pinned in place and the cells are not going to budge when you insert your images. It’s not time to insert those images. Simply drag and drop your images into the word document. Drop the images one at a time into each cell and they will automatically resize to fit the cell. If you find the image is too small you will have to crop the image to fit the dimensions of your cells. In order to CENTRE your images you simply highlight the table and check the ‘centre’ icon under the HOME table. Is it looking good? I you need to split your table so you can insert some text or simply separate the rows, click on the row BELOW the split, go to TABLE TOOLS – LAYOUT and the click on ‘split table’. EASY!! Before I discovered this method of dragging and dropping images into word I was spending endless hours trying to correct the images, the sizes and where they landed on the page. To say I was frustrated was an understatement. It was part of my business, so giving up so much time to formatting documents meant my income per hour was dwindling and the bigger the project the more time I spent. Once I figured out this method it was such a relief, in fact I think I may have jumped for joy!!! I then made template for my projects with formatted tables ready to go.

As your creating your documents in Word 2016, especially those that you plan on sharing with others, you'll want to make sure they're grammatically correct. There are no spelling errors, you're using the right language, the right words in the right places, and so on. Well, there are a number of proofing tools built-in to Word to help you with that and we're going to explore them in this chapter. Starting with some of the options that are turned on automatically to help you and where we go to make adjustments. So, as you can see I have a new blank document in front of me. Just click the file tab, new, and then blank document, and you'll have what I have. Let's test this out. We'll start by typing in a sentence without using a capital at the beginning, "to whom it may concern." Type in lowercase "t-o", hit the space bar, it's capitalized for you. All right, we'll finish that off. Press enter a couple of times. Let's type in "welcome," but with a lowercase "w". "welcome", space, and it's capitalized for us, as well.

Can you find the mistakes in these English sentences? In today's lesson, you'll review 8 grammar rules of correct English sentences. You'll get to practice correcting sentences with me in the video. Once you learn these easy grammar rules, you'll avoid making common mistakes and improve your marks on English essays and exams like IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC. To test if you really understand these rules, take the quiz. Good luck with your English! http://www.engvid.com/8-english-sentences-find-the-mistakes/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, my name's Rebecca. For the next few minutes, let's pretend you are the English teacher and you're correcting your student's homework. Let's look at some of these sentences and see if you can find some of the errors in these English sentences. Okay, the first sentence: "My mother she works in a bank." Is that okay? Well, let me tell you right now that actually none of these sentences are okay; there is a mistake in every sentence. So see if you can find the mistake. Okay? "My mother she works in a bank." What's the mistake? Okay... Here, "she", all right? I'm just going to grab a different marker. So what happened here is we said: "My mother she works in a bank." So we cannot repeat the subject. The mistake here is that we had a double subject; the subject was mentioned twice. In English, you can't do that. You just mention the subject once. So this sentence, in order to be correct, would need to be: "My mother works in a bank." Or: "She works in a bank." If you know who "she" is. Right? But you can't say both. So no double subjects. Number two: "John is an engineer" What's wrong with that? Look carefully. Well, what's wrong is that it's missing the punctuation. All right? Part of a correct sentence is correct punctuation. So here, there was no period at the end of the sentence, that's what was wrong. Next sentence: "The manager of my department" What's wrong with that? Well, what's wrong is that it's not a sentence because it doesn't have any verb, there's no verb there. Okay? And, of course, you need to continue this sentence, and then eventually you'd need to have some punctuation as well. But basically, there is no... This is a sentence fragment. This is called only a part of a sentence. It is not a complete English sentence or a correct English sentence. There is no verb. Missing verb. Next one: "we enjoy watching old movies." Okay? Again, look carefully. What's wrong there? Well, it has a subject, it has a verb, but this is the problem. The first letter in the first word of an English sentence has to be capitalized and that's what was missing here. You see, we didn't have that problem before. Okay. Next one: "I like very much Chinese food." Okay? Maybe that sounds okay to you, but doesn't sound okay to me. It's close, but not quite. What's wrong? Well, what's wrong here is this, the word order. Not only do you need to have certain elements, you need to have the words in the right order. So in English, the correct order for this sentence would be: "I like Chinese food very much." Okay? Not: "very much Chinese food." "I like Chinese food very much." Okay? Next: "Maria need help with her hw." "Maria need help with her homework." What's wrong there? Okay? So the mistake is here, the mistake is in subject-verb agreement. The verb has to agree with the subject. Right? And if we say: "Maria", it's like: "she", and we would have to say: "She needs". "Maria needs help with her hw." So the error here was in subject-verb agreement. Next one: "delivered the package yesterday" Okay? "delivered the package yesterday" What's wrong here? Well, it's similar to this one, except here, we had a sentence fragment and we had the subject. Here, we have a sentence fragment, and we have a verb, but we don't have a subject. We have a missing subject. So this is also a sentence fragment. "Fragment" means only part. It is not a complete sentence. Next one: "We recieved your letter." "We recieved your letter." Sounds fine, but if you're an English teacher, you're going to look really carefully at each of the words. And what's wrong is here, the mistake is here. It's a spelling mistake. Okay? The word "received" is one of those tricky words with the "e" and the "i", and the "i" and the "e" that you have to learn very well. So spelling mistakes will also bring down your marks. If you're doing the IELTS, if you're bring... Doing the TOEFL, any errors of this kind will bring your marks down. Okay? So even though they seem very basic, I know from experience that students make all of these mistakes. Be very careful not to make them. Let's look at what principles apply to correct English sentences. Okay? So, an English sentence must express a complete thought and it must express it with certain elements. Now, just because a sentence must express a complete thought, it doesn't have to have a lot of words; it doesn't have to be a very long sentence.

What will happen to our planet in the next 200 years? The most famous scientist since Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, who has made profound and inspiring discoveries, predicted an extremely dark and pessimistic future to the Earth and its inhabitants. Here are some of Hawking’s most terrifying predictions on how and when our world will meet its demise. Since scientists started toying with genetically engineered viruses to treat human illnesses, they’ve also discovered other possible uses for them. Nowadays, pharmacists are even combining several deadly viruses into a single shot and doing some weird stuff with DNA mixing. Hawking was a firm believer in extraterrestrial life, and he was convinced that they will eventually invade our planet. And no, unfortunately, they probably won’t come in peace. In his final work, A Smooth Exit from Eternal Inflation, completed just two weeks before he died, Hawking predicted that our universe will eventually fade into darkness as all the stars run out of energy. Although Hawking's life basically depended on artificial intelligence, he didn't trust it at all. He once said that it might just be “the worst invention in the history of our civilization” because it’ll probably replace humans altogether. Hawking added that global warming will make the conditions on Earth similar to those on Venus. To save ourselves from problems like overpopulation (and the scarcity of resources that comes with it), pandemics, and pollution, we have to discover new worlds and become a multi-planetary species. Music: Diamond Ortiz - Crock Pot Gonna Onyekwe - Destination Unknown Doug Maxwell/Media Right Productions - Hipsters Hopping Doug Maxwell - Light Years Away William Rosati - Rounds Francis Preve- Stranger Danger https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Genetically modified vaccines will backfire on us. 1:04 Aliens will invade our planet. 2:36 The Universe will come to an end. 3:52 Robots will replace humans. 4:21 Nuclear weapons will destroy humanity. 5:32 We'll need to find another planet to live on. 6:03 The Earth will combust into a ball of fire. 9:17 SUMMARY -We still don't fully understand the long-term damage genetically engineered vaccine concoctions might have. -Chances are that cosmic beings will find our floating rock in space and they’ll most likely want to either destroy us or study us like lab rats. -Hawking predicted that our universe will eventually fade into darkness as all the stars run out of energy. -The scientist believed that artificial intelligence could eventually outsmart and outperform humans or, worse, decide to get rid of us. -The development of militarized technology and weapons of mass destruction could lead us to disastrous consequences, which would mean the end of our world. -According to Hawking, we have to find another planet to live on within the next 100 years. Otherwise, we’ll die out as a species because Earth has already reached “the point of no return”. -Global warming will make the conditions on Earth similar to those on Venus. The average temperature will be about 480°F. Our planet will burst into flames in less than 600 years. Alphabear 2 by Spry Fox LLC is a puzzle game where players take on the challenge of assembling words letter by letter in each level. The objective is similar to gameplay in the first game within this saga. Simply use letter pieces so your friendly little bears grow and move from space to space. SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE HD VIDEOS → https://goo.gl/Pz1CBK Uptodown | https://alphabear-2.en.uptodown.com/android?utm_source=youtube.com&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=traffic_ac Google play | https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spryfox.alphabear2 Gameplay is quite simple. With the letters available on screen you'll have to create new words -- the longer the better, as you'll rack up more points and combos. From time to time you'll find there are options to string up longer words with letters that are on the brink of turning into stone. Whenever one of your letters turns into stone, you lose a lot of points, so watch out. When it comes to strategic elements to bare in mind, your objective is to create as much space as possible for your bears. Alphabear 2 has a ton of different levels and a huge variety of different bears -- each cuter than the last. This time around the game comes with an added level of customization whereby each of the bears can be personalized and styled with different costumes that you unlock as you play. In fact, dressing up each bear is practically a whole game in itself.
