NASA Has Just Discovered a New Planet!

09:18
If you've always been interested in outer space, here's news for you: astronomers have recently found a potentially habitable planet! It's called Barnard’s Star B. It has slightly more than 24 hours in a day, and it’s always sunny there no matter what. Actually, it's really cold there, but simple lifeforms can develop and survive in these conditions! Other videos you might like: 10 Facts About Our Planet You Didn't Learn In School https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRXdjc5yxVs The Solar System Is Not Like You Think It Is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FvpAe3MacM& 10 Wonderful Facts About Earth You've Never Heard Before https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh_2y4olKvM TIMESTAMPS: What this planet’s sun like 0:30 Wobbles = planet? 3:18 What does it mean to be super-earth class planet? 5:07 No dawn at all 6:09 Seas of liquid methane 6:55 And another potential candidate (which is right in our neighborhood) 7:52 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Look up high into the dark sky, and you’ll see a little murky-looking circle. No, that’s not Barnard’s moon – it’s the planet’s sun. Now look down. Deep under your feet lie countless rivers, lakes, and seas of liquid methane. - Barnard’s sun is only located 6 light-years away from us, and it’s the 4th closest star to our solar system. Try to imagine our sun 5 times smaller and much less bright. - Though Edward Emerson Barnard wasn’t the first to discover this star, he proved in 1916 that it’s the fastest star known to us. - Barnard’s Star is what astronomers call a red dwarf – a small, dim, and truly ancient star that’s getting pretty close to the end of its life cycle. - The first person to assume there was a planet somewhere near this star was astronomer Peter van de Kamp. Back in the 60s, he observed “wobbles” in the star’s movement. - Astronomers took lots of measurements with the most advanced astronomical equipment you could imagine, and they came out with 99% certainty that the planet Barnard’s Star B exists. - “Super-earth” is just the term astronomers use to describe only the size of a planet that’s larger than Earth but considerably smaller than ice giants like Neptune. - This planet is a huge ball of rock and ice that lies beyond the habitable zone of its star. Even though it’s closer to Barnard’s Star than our Earth is to the Sun, its star provides only 3% of the light that our Sun does. - According to a 2015 study at Cornell University, chances are that simple methane-based lifeforms can develop and survive in these conditions. - The existence of such lifeforms is pure theory. So the idea that this newly found Barnard’s Star B planet is habitable for us humans is really far-fetched for now. NASA Spacecraft Discovers New Magnetic Process in Turbulent Space

03:24
Though close to home, the space immediately around Earth is full of hidden secrets and invisible processes. In a new discovery reported in the journal Nature, scientists working with NASA’s Magnetospheric Multiscale spacecraft — MMS — have uncovered a new type of magnetic event in our near-Earth environment by using an innovative technique to squeeze extra information out of the data. Magnetic reconnection is one of the most important processes in the space — filled with charged particles known as plasma — around Earth. This fundamental process dissipates magnetic energy and propels charged particles, both of which contribute to a dynamic space weather system that scientists want to better understand, and even someday predict, as we do terrestrial weather. Reconnection occurs when crossed magnetic field lines snap, explosively flinging away nearby particles at high speeds. The new discovery found reconnection where it has never been seen before — in turbulent plasma. In fact all RS-25 Engine testing happens exclusively at Stennis Space Center! If these look familiar to you, it may be due to the fact that they were used as the space shuttle main engine for the last 30 years. Compared to the 3 RS-25 engines that the space shuttle had the SLS will utilize 4 of them to produce 2 Million pounds of thrust. The thorough testing of the RS-25 plays an essential role in upholding NASA’s high standards of efficient and reliable engines.

NASA's Million Dollar Space Pen vs The Soviet Pencils

06:40
The story of the NASA’s million $ space pen and the soviet pencils has become one of the enduring tales from the space race which still floats around the internet today and goes a bit like this. Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/curiousdroid Paypal.me : https://www.paypal.me/curiousdroid You can now translate this and other curious droid videos, see my video about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLPVgIytKyg During the 1960’s as NASA was sending the first men in the space, they realise that pens don’t work in zero gravity, so they spent years and millions of tax payer dollars to develop one that did. Meanwhile, in the Soviet Union, the cosmonauts simply used pencils. The moral of the story to many is that NASA was a wasteful government organisation that would be giving your hard earned TAX dollars to some greedy contractors charging sky high prices for a seemingly trivial object whereas the enemy, the Soviets, where common sense and practical. But the story is a myth, however like all good myths it’s based on facts, facts which over time like Chinese whispers end up as grossly exaggerated stories which then are taken at face value and purport to be the real facts. The true story of the “Space Pen” is a bit more down to earth and starts with a sandwich on the Gemini 3 mission of March 23rd, 1965. The crew of the flight were Gus Grissom and John Young. After the mission, it came to light that John Young had smuggled a sandwich on board in his space suit pocket. Although it had been allowed by the director of flight operations, it was frowned upon by the flight surgeon because when they took bites out of the two-day old sandwich in orbit, the crumbs floated around the cabin in micro gravity and that these could get into the electronics and cause a problem. At the time, the astronauts had an exclusive deal with “Life” magazine and some thought that they had planned little stunts like this, so as to reveal them in upcoming articles. In the earlier Mercury missions, it had been common place for non-flight items to have been taken on board missions. When it was then discovered that the two mechanical pencils the crew were using, cost $128.84 each ($986 today) and that NASA had bought 34 of them for a total of $4,382.50, the equivalent of $33,700 in 2017 prices, the press had a field day and there was a public outcry. It turned out that the actual pencils cost $1.75 each but they had custom made housings so that the crew could hold and write with them whilst wearing their thick space suit gloves and it was the R&D and manufacturing cost of these housings which was where the bulk of the money had really gone. The issue here is that people might not know what a flight computer or a rocket engine costs but when they see a pencil costing $128, they might well think what else have unscrupulous contractors been overcharging for. After an investigation, as to what was being carried on to missions, it also turned out that they also had on board four Japanese Pentel pencils which cost $0.49c each, something NASA definitely didn’t want to be known about when they flew alongside the $128 American versions. During the mid-1960’s, Paul Fisher, inventor and owner of the Fisher Pen Company patented what he called the “space pen”. Fisher knew of the issues with the NASA pencils and had the idea of making a pen that would work in space. The Space pen had a cartridge pressurised with nitrogen and that used a special gel ink that became liquid when the ballpoint rotated against the gel. It could write at any angle, on almost any surface, in a vacuum, even underwater and work in temperatures from -46C to +71C. However, he didn’t have any official backing, nor was he contracted by NASA, it was just his idea to make the perfect pen and he funded it privately by his company to the tune of a reportedly $1 million, how true that figure was, might be up for question but its where the $million price tag comes from.

10 Of The Strangest NASA Discoveries

11:26
No one can really explain these strange NASA discoveries! Subscribe for more amazing videos! ► http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Richest ◄ It seems like every week NASA sends out a press release stating that another groundbreaking discovery has been made in this or that corner of the universe, or on this or that planet, or even in the extreme climates of our own planet. Being a constantly expanding space, the universe has no shortage of places to explore and things to find, so the number of discoveries shouldn’t be surprising. However, some of the discoveries themselves should leave you speechless. These are the ones that defy explanation or at least subvert common understanding. Take the items in this video. One, a gaseous cloud discovered in the Milky Way, tastes like raspberries and smells like rum. Your perplexed look is warranted—but it’s true and it has a pretty simple explanation. The same can’t be said for why antibiotic-resistant bacteria has been found on the International Space Station. Although it might not sound super serious, this video will tell you why it's a real concern for the astronauts onboard. Finally, the weirdest discovery in our video is ‘Oumuamua, which is the first confirmed interstellar object to pass through our solar system. We may never know the true composition of ‘Oumuamua, but everything from a meteor to an alien spaceship has been attributed to the tumbling intruder. These are just a few of the strange discoveries NASA has made in recent years, and we can’t begin to conceive what will be discovered in the future. Every day brings a chance of an astronomical revelation that does more than just raise eyebrows, but changes our lives forever. When that day comes, will we be ready? NASA - DNA Building Blocks Can Be Made in Space

03:39
NASA-funded researchers have evidence that some building blocks of DNA, the molecule that carries the genetic instructions for life, found in meteorites were likely created in space. The research gives support to the theory that a "kit" of ready-made parts created in space and delivered to Earth by meteorite and comet impacts assisted the origin of life. Some articles on the discovery: http://www.space.com/12569-meteorites-dna-building-blocks-discovery.html http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,2087758,00.html NASA Goddard Space Flight Center: http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/home/index.html Also from the European Southern Observatory: Building blocks of life found around young star - http://www.eso.org/public/news/eso1234/ A team of astronomers using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) has spotted sugar molecules in the gas surrounding a young Sun-like star. This is the first time sugar been found in space around such a star, and the discovery shows that the building blocks of life are in the right place, at the right time, to be included in planets forming around the star. The astronomers found molecules of glycolaldehyde — a simple form of sugar — in the gas surrounding a young binary star, with similar mass to the Sun, called IRAS 16293-2422. Glycolaldehyde has been seen in interstellar space before, but this is the first time it has been found so near to a Sun-like star, at distances comparable to the distance of Uranus from the Sun in the Solar System. This discovery shows that some of the chemical compounds needed for life existed in this system at the time of planet formation "In the disc of gas and dust surrounding this newly formed star, we found glycolaldehyde, which is a simple form of sugar, not much different to the sugar we put in coffee," explains Jes Jørgensen (Niels Bohr Institute, Denmark), the lead author of the paper. "This molecule is one of the ingredients in the formation of RNA, which — like DNA, to which it is related — is one of the building blocks of life." The high sensitivity of ALMA — even at the technically challenging shortest wavelengths at which it operates — was critical for these observations, which were made with a partial array of antennas during the observatory's Science Verification phase. The History and Future of NASA and Space Travel: Neil deGrasse Tyson - Space Chronicles (2012)

02:14:19
Space Chronicles: Facing the Ultimate Frontier is the 2012 anthology by Neil deGrasse Tyson covering his various writings relating to the history and future of NASA and space travel in general. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0393350371/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0393350371&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=3116d9b9ac64e3d45c2335c8ba178369 Tyson intended the book's original title to be, Failure to Launch: The Dreams and Delusions of Space Enthusiasts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Chronicles:_Facing_the_Ultimate_Frontier Tyson's research has focused on observations in cosmology, stellar evolution, galactic astronomy and stellar formation. He has held numerous positions at institutions including University of Maryland, Princeton University, the American Museum of Natural History, and Hayden Planetarium. Tyson has written a number of popular books on astronomy. In 1995, he began to write the "Universe" column for Natural History magazine. In a column he authored for the magazine in 2002, Tyson coined the term "Manhattanhenge" to describe the two days annually on which the evening sun aligns with the cross streets of the street grid in Manhattan, making the sunset visible along unobstructed side streets. Tyson's column also influenced his work as a professor with The Great Courses. In 2001, US President George W. Bush appointed Tyson to serve on the Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry and in 2004 to serve on the President's Commission on Implementation of United States Space Exploration Policy, the latter better known as the "Moon, Mars, and Beyond" commission. Soon afterward he was awarded the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest civilian honor bestowed by NASA. In 2004, he hosted the four-part Origins miniseries of PBS's Nova, and, with Donald Goldsmith, co-authored the companion volume for this series, Origins: Fourteen Billion Years Of Cosmic Evolution. He again collaborated with Goldsmith as the narrator on the documentary 400 Years of the Telescope which premiered on PBS in April 2009. As director of the Hayden Planetarium, Tyson bucked traditional thinking in order to keep Pluto from being referred to as the ninth planet in exhibits at the center. Tyson has explained that he wanted to look at commonalities between objects, grouping the terrestrial planets together, the gas giants together, and Pluto with like objects and to get away from simply counting the planets. He has stated on The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, and BBC Horizon that this decision has resulted in large amounts of hate mail, much of it from children. In 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) confirmed this assessment by changing Pluto to the dwarf planet classification. Daniel Simone wrote of the interview with Tyson describing his frustration. "For a while, we were not very popular here at the Hayden Planetarium." Tyson recounted the heated on-line debate on the Cambridge Conference Network (CCNet), a "widely read, UK-based Internet chat group" following Benny Peiser's renewed call for reclassification of Pluto's status. Peiser's entry, in which he posted articles from the AP and Boston Globe spawned from the New York Times's article entitled 'Pluto's Not a Planet? Only in New York'. Tyson has been vice-president, president, and chairman of the board of the Planetary Society. He was also the host of the PBS program Nova ScienceNow until 2011. He attended and was a speaker at the Beyond Belief: Science, Religion, Reason and Survival symposium on November 2006. In 2007, Tyson, who is known for his vibrant character, cheerful demeanor, and awe of the vastness of the universe itself, was chosen to be a regular on The History Channel's popular series The Universe. In May 2009, he launched a one-hour radio talk show called StarTalk, which he co-hosted with comedienne Lynne Koplitz. The show was syndicated on Sunday afternoons on KTLK AM in Los Angeles and WHFS in Washington DC. The show lasted for thirteen weeks, but was resurrected in December 2010 and then, co-hosted with comedians Chuck Nice and Leighann Lord instead of Koplitz. Guests range from colleagues in science to celebrities such as Gza, Wil Wheaton, Sarah Silverman, and Bill Maher. The show is also available via the internet through a live stream or in the form of a podcast. In April 2011, Tyson was the keynote speaker at the 93rd International Convention of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of the Two-year School. He and James Randi delivered a lecture entitled Skepticism, which related directly with the convention's theme of The Democratization of Information: Power, Peril, and Promise. In 2012, Tyson announced that he would appear in a YouTube series based on his radio show StarTalk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_deGrasse_Tyson

7 SPACE Conspiracies that Will BLOW Your Mind

08:08
7 Space Mysteries and Conspiracies In November 2014 the world rejoiced as the Rosetta spacecraft successfully dispatched the Philae lander onto the comet 67P Churyumov Gerasimenko. Well, most of the world celebrated, aside from the morons obsessed with Matt Taylor’s Hawaiian shirt, which I personally think was an awesome piece of clothing any man would be proud to wear. But what’s more interesting is how the Rosetta mission was suspiciously well-funded and swiftly executed, and the reason why will blow your mind. On January 6th 2015 NASA was broadcasting a live feed from the International Space Station’s High Definition Earth Viewing Platform when suddenly, this happened. The Russian Space Agency has attempted 22 probe missions to Mars, and all but one have been a complete failure. The red planet doesn’t want to invite the red Russians to the party, because even their one vaguely successful attempt involved only brief observations before the lander failed. So why do Putin and his pals have such bad luck in trying to reach the Martian surface? The answer may lie at the doorstep of these fellas. Climate Change is a literal hot topic right now, with scientists and people on the left claiming man is to blame for global warming, and conspiracy theorists and right-wingers claiming it’s a natural phenomenon exaggerated by dirty hippies with a total nature boner. The theory that man never made it to the moon is a popular conspiracy, but for all the observations on light, shadows, atmospheric conditions and the rest, most people fail to take into account one giant problem with their analysis – Russia. At the Cold War’s height the Soviets would’ve jumped all over the slightest hint of space-skull-duggery, but the USA’s greatest nemesis fully verified the achievement of the crew of Apollo 11. However, what may not be real are the videos of this historic moment. One of the main reasons so many moon-landing conspiracists continue to believe man never went to the moon is the lack of evidence provided by modern day technology. They argue if the Government pointed the Hubble Space Telescope at the moon landing sites we’d have all the proof we need. So why won’t NASA do this? Come on NASA, stop being such a tease.

Pre-NASA Propaganda: Masons, Start Your Lying! Space, Satellites & UFOs 1954 interview Milton Rosen

14:39
Laying the foundation of lies: Space, Space Travel, Satellites & UFOs aka Flying Saucers. 1954 interview Milton Rosen, head of Rocket Development for Naval Research Laboratories aka Future NASA Liar. Before NASA and the ensuing “space race”, the government had to convince a skeptical public that America needed to be in this new race. One way they did it was to parade a variety of “experts” on TV and articles in magazines like Popular Science. This interview with Milton Rosen, then head of Rocket Development for Naval Research Laboratories shows how they laid the groundwork for the coming deception of satellites, space, space travel, moon landings and interestingly, the possibility of UFOs or " and aliens. Information about Milton Rosen from Wikipedia: Milton William Rosen (July 25, 1915 – December 30, 2014) was a United States Navy engineer and project manager in the US space program between the end of World War II and the early days of the Apollo Program. He led development of the Viking and Vanguard rockets, and was influential in the critical decisions early in NASA's history that led to the definition of the Saturn rockets, which were central to the eventual success of the American Moon landing program. He died of prostate cancer in 2014. In the early 1950s, the American Rocket Society set up an ad hoc Committee on Space Flight, of which Rosen became the chair. Encouraged by conversations between Richard W. Porter of General Electric and Alan T. Waterman, Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), Rosen on November 27, 1954 completed a report describing the potential value of launching an earth satellite. The report was submitted to the NSF early in 1955.[4] When the US decided to orbit a scientific satellite during the International Geophysical Year (IGY), a 1955 proposal from NRL, to build a launch vehicle based on the Viking as a first stage with a second stage based on the smaller Aerobee sounding rocket was selected, and again Rosen was project manager. The maturity of the Viking and Aerobee rockets played an important role in the choice. However there was also a strong hidden motive higher in the US government: to establish a precedent for overflight rights to Eastern Bloc territory with a non-military civilian research rocket, in preparation for the highly secret national reconnaissance satellite program then underway. This classified NRL proposal was the genesis of Project Vanguard. Rosen went on after Vanguard to be involved in a number of important NASA studies and committees that helped to define the family of large launch vehicles, designed from the beginning not as missiles, but as space launchers, that were eventually to be key components of the Apollo program. He was the principal author of a report to President Eisenhower, dated 27 January 1959,[7] which proposed three families of vehicles needed to support an ambitious National Space Program. Interesting Facts: The Longines Watch mentioned at the end of the program, "starting as low as $71.50" is equal to $648.43 in 2016 dollars. In 1954 the Average Annual Salary was $4,700 and the average car cost $1,950. Program Information: DECEMBER 1, 1954 Participants: Milton (err. Minton) Rosen, head, Rocket Development for Naval Research Laboratories, interviewed by Larry Lesueur and Lou Cioffi. Topics: Rockets, satellites, space travel, moon exploration, and flying saucers. AWESOME IMAGES OF SPACE BY NASA

02:08
Video Title :AWESOME IMAGES OF SPACE BY NASA . IMAGE (Imager for Magnetopause-to-Aurora Global Exploration) is a NASA Medium Explorers mission that studied the global response of the Earth's magnetosphere to changes in the solar wind. It was believed lost but as of August 2018 might be recoverable. It was launched March 25, 2000 by a Delta II rocket from Vandenberg AFB on a two-year mission. Almost six years later, it unexpectedly ceased operations in December 2005 during its extended mission and was declared lost.[10] The spacecraft was part of NASA's Sun-Earth Connections Program, and during its run had over 400 research articles published in peer-reviewed journals using its data.[11] It had special cameras that provided various breakthroughs in understanding the dynamics of plasma around the Earth. The Principal Investigator was Jim Burch of the Southwest Research Institute. . In January 2018, an amateur satellite tracker found it to be transmitting some signals back to Earth.[7] NASA made attempts to communicate with the spacecraft and determine its payload status, but has had to track down and adapt old hardware and software to the current systems.[12] On February 25, contact with IMAGE was again lost only to be reestablished on March 4, 2018. The signal disappeared once again on August 5, 2018. Recovery efforts are underway and if successful NASA may decide to fund a restarted mission. . The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA, /ˈnæsə/) is an independent agency of the United States Federal Government responsible for the civilian space program, as well as aeronautics and aerospace research.[note 1] . NASA was established in 1958, succeeding the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The new agency was to have a distinctly civilian orientation, encouraging peaceful applications in space science.[7][8][9] Since its establishment, most US space exploration efforts have been led by NASA, including the Apollo Moon landing missions, the Skylab space station, and later the Space Shuttle. NASA is supporting the International Space Station and is overseeing the development of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, the Space Launch System and Commercial Crew vehicles. The agency is also responsible for the Launch Services Program which provides oversight of launch operations and countdown management for unmanned NASA launches. . Powered by : RADEON X . 10 Rules From NASA Astronauts to Sleep Better

11:28
Insomnia is really common among astronauts. What do they do to combat it? We're gonna tell you how astronauts sleep in space. Trust me, it’s a far cry from how we do it here on Earth! TIMESTAMPS: Always go to bed and get up at the same time 2:15 Quit bad habits that affect your sleep 3:13 Avoid heavy food in the evening 3:50 The temperature in the room is of utter importance 4:48 Eliminating sources of noise 5:20 Limit the use of electronic devices 6:06 Choose the correct light 6:56 Create a sleeping environment 7:32 Learn relaxation techniques 8:10 Consume caffeine and melatonin 9:24 Bonus: how astronauts sleep in space 10:27 #sleepbetter #fallasleepfast #sleepinghabits Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY: - Before blasting off into space, astronauts are actually given their own sleep schedule designed in accordance with their own internal clocks. - Going for an evening jog or gym workout increases your body temperature, which means you’ll need more time to calm down and fall asleep. - Astronauts also stick to lighter foods towards evening. Giving your body the task of digesting heavy foods when it should be resting won’t help you get good-quality sleep. Plus - Astronauts make sure that their sleeping quarters are well ventilated and that the temperature there stays pretty low. These two factors have a crucial effect on the quality of your sleep. - Each astronaut on the crew has their own private sleeping quarters. And that’s so they can get proper sleep without being disturbed by external noises. - The blue light that your computer and smartphone emit affects your sleep. This light is 40% brighter than sunlight. It reduces the production of melatonin, the body’s sleep hormone. - Try to avoid using fluorescent lighting. Use bulbs that emit yellow or orange light since they have almost no influence on melatonin synthesis. - If the room where you sleep isn't quiet or dark enough, use earplugs and a sleeping mask. Make sure all electronic devices are switched off, and no light gets into your room from under the door or through the window. - Some people suffer from sleep disorders because of stress and anxiety. In these cases, NASA astronauts use a cognitive behavioral therapy that helps them calm down and deal with the stress that keeps them up at night. - If astronauts experience a slight sleep disorder, they take melatonin supplements to fall asleep. They just have a mild sedative effect that helps you slowly and gently drift off into sleep. - Astronauts don’t sleep on beds like we do down here on Earth. Instead, they sleep in vertical sleeping bags that they have to strap their bodies into so that they don't float around while sleeping. Why is NASA Still Using 1960's Parachute Test Results?

03:53
Results from parachute tests done in the 1960s are still valid, so NASA is still using that data. Talk about getting your money's worth! NASA only recently started doing supersonic deceleration tests with the Low Density Supersonic Decelerator. Before that, the agency was doing wind tunnel tests for strength and deployment tests, of course, but also using Apollo-era data from high-altitude supersonic tests since that was the last time there was money for such expensive methods. For more on Apollo-era parachute testing, check out these two older articles One from Discovery News Space: http://news.discovery.com/space/history-of-space/curiositys-retro-parachute-120618.htm And the other from Vintage Space:http://amyshirateitel.com/2011/06/14/preparing-planetary-parachute/ Want more Vintage Space? HOW TO BECOME AN ASTRONAUT? NASA KNOWS!

09:46
Subscribe! Because SMART IS THE NEW SEXY: https://goo.gl/JTfP6L What does it take to become an astronaut? Hello everyone! Welcome to our channel! From early childhood many people ask themselves the following question: I wonder, but still - can I become an astronaut? And we are sure you are not the exception! The era of new space travel and space exploration is unfolding and it's our generation who begins to explore the space! We in Smart is the New Sexy decided to find out - how to become an astronaut - is it difficult?! What should we do for that (or should we not - which is sometimes also very important as we all know)! Every few years NASA recruits astronauts. The most advanced space agency of the planet steadily launches spacecrafts into space and even to Mars! But as once was rightly noted by our viewers in the comments in some previous video (you think we do not read them!?) - "an astronaut is not a profession, but a job for a certain period". So, today there are huge number of people having a burning desire to become astronaut! In order to find out how an ordinary person can become an astronaut, we talked with Duane Ross, one of the managers of the astronaut selection office at the Johnson Space Center at NASA. And we discussed with him the following! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: http://facebook.com/enjoy.science/ The Bright Side of Youtube: https://goo.gl/rQTJZz 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

How Close Are We to Building a Moon Base?

09:48
For decades, humans have fantasized about living on the moon, but we haven't sent anyone there since 1972. So, how close are we to a moon base? Apollo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wo1jasvnUg&list=PL6uC-XGZC7X6t9SWSCN0ETF6HWcxy6bVc How Close Are We? Season 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW_YCWLyv6A&list=PL6uC-XGZC7X4X5RRtme4oR1OOkjViKo8M Read More: How NASA plans to use lunar dust to build structures on the Moon https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/18/17870688/nasa-moon-construction-building-lunar-dust-material "NASA’s new focus has been made clear: the space agency is sending humans back to the Moon — this time, in a sustainable way. At least, that’s the claim made by NASA’s administrator Jim Bridenstine, who says he’s not interested in just leaving “flags and footprints” on the lunar surface. " How to Build a Moon Base https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-07107-4 "Researchers relish the idea of a base for conducting experiments on the Moon and as a way to trial technologies for heading to Mars. Private firms, however, are increasingly tempted by the possibility of mining oxygen and hydrogen — which power rockets — from lunar ice." China Announces Plans for Moon Base https://futurism.com/moon-base-china-plans "A Chinese rover is currently exploring the far side of the Moon, and an official announced on Monday that the country’s space program plans to launch three more lunar missions — with the goal of laying the groundwork for an international Moon base." ___________________ How close are we to colonizing the moon, mapping the human brain and curing cancer?
