China Will Take Over Russian Siberian Resources

19:11
China Will Take Over Russian Siberian Resources. China still has a large economy, despite the recent downturn. One area where China is lacking is in resources, such as oil & other commodities. Russia, China's neighbor to the north, has plenty of oil and resources and they are in lands that have been once claimed by China. With the recent Russian sanctions and China's military growing exponentially, each year, it would not come as a surprise that Chinese leaders have their eyes on Russian oil and commodities. The oil rich and resource rich areas of Siberia & Yakutsk are semi-autonomous regions within the Russian Federation. Both regions of Siberia & Yakutsk do not consider themselves Russian. If China were to succeed to get a foothold in Siberia & Yakutsk and also give the people in Siberia & Yakutsk a much better deal economically than the raw deal they are receiving from the Russian oligarchs, then it would be likely that Siberia & Yakutsk stay loyal to China. The economic and political situation in Russia is actually very precarious.

All the power kept by plants during long winter months is concentrated in young green leaves. It is time to collect them! This Russian River Mysteriously Turned Blood Red Then A Nickel Plant Revealed The Horrible Truth

05:43
Please do not forget to visit the site http://scribol.com ************************************************************** The Daldykan River runs right past the Russian settlement of Norilsk, the world’s most northerly city. Remote it may be, but Norilsk, which sits firmly inside the Arctic Circle, is home to over 100,000 people. And, as of recently, it took center stage in an environmental scandal that’s captured the world’s attention. The scandal occurred at the beginning of September 2016. Norilsk locals had noticed that the Daldykan River – normally so lovely and so blue – had turned a distressing shade of blood red. And, although the river is unconnected to the city’s water supply, residents deemed the color strange enough to share on Russian social media. The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment subsequently promised to investigate the phenomenon. Its theory was that the red hue could be the result of a leak from the nearby Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant. Others, however, believed that the color had been caused by a deliberate chemical runoff from the same plant. Others still blamed the incident on a combination of the facility’s wastewater mixing with mineral ore. But, whichever way you cut it, everybody was pointing the finger at the nickel plant. This wasn’t, in fact, the first time that pollution had been blamed for weird events in this part of Siberia. Certainly, the region has many mines that tap into its rich deposits of copper, nickel and silvery-white palladium. This wealth of natural resources, then, comes at a cost to the environment. Indeed, mining the metals means that over four million tons of pollutants – including arsenic and lead – are belched into the atmosphere from Norilsk each year. Environmentalist Richard Fuller, the president of the Blacksmith Institute, told TIME that “there’s not a single living tree” within a 30-mile radius of the Nadezhda plant. “It’s just a wasteland,” he added. Incidentally, Norilsk was established in the mid 1930s as a Siberian labor camp. Life for the people forced to work there would have been pretty miserable, and while labor camps were later outlawed, the city remains, to this day, a challenging place to live. Russia’s industry-driven pollution problem, however, is by no means limited to outermost Siberia. Today, in fact, three quarters of the country’s surface water – and, startlingly, half of all Russian water – is deemed polluted. ************************************************************** ►You can support the channel: PATREON https://goo.gl/KtaKrp ►web: http://watchjojo.com ► SUBSCRIBE US: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg ► Follow Us On Google Plus: https://goo.gl/JYf9Rr ► Like us Our Facebook Page: https://goo.gl/C5Rv92 ► Follow On Twitter: https://goo.gl/PZ2U1R ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com ►Article link: https://goo.gl/ANF5XV #watchjojo

Amazing video of exploding under-ice methane gas in Siberia

01:44
Methane gas locked inside Siberia's frozen soil and under its lakes is currently being released at a dangerous rate. Scientists believe it can pose threat to the world's climate. However the lack of data over a long period of time casts uncertainty over the extent of the threat. More than 50 billion tons of methane could be unleashed from Siberian lakes alone. RUSSIA: MINERAL WEALTH OF NORTHERN SIBERIA TO BE EXPLOITED

03:45
Russian/Nat Northern Russia is about to enter a new era with the decision to exploit vast mineral wealth under the frozen tundra of Northern Siberia A combination of western technological investment and local muscle is expected to turn the region into the cradle of a Russian economic miracle. But when the development picks up speed, it will herald the destruction of the centuries old way of life of the local Nentsi tribesmen. The Nentsi eke a fragile living from the frozen earth, and live in harmony with the environment - but soon : no more. The Nentsi tribe and their reindeer coexist with a rare harmony. Not only do they depend on the animals for everything from food to footwear, but the entire Nentsi culture and religion is inextricably linked to the reindeer and their seasons. Winter is the time for branding the animals before setting out to outlying pastures when the thaw comes. Each year those lands are shrinking. Oil wells dominate the horizon beyond the fences demarcating Nentsi grazing territory. Now that many of the old Soviet wells have run dry, the oil companies are drilling ever further afield. 90 percent of Russia's natural gas and three quarters of its oil resources surrounds Nentsi land. The price? Irreparable ecological damage. Airborne pollution is killing off the moss on which their reindeer depend. Power lines and construction have destroyed tracts of the forest. SOUNDBITE: (Russian): "We are now completely encircled. If they take this last patch of land - the one I live on - there will be nowhere left to graze our deer." SUPER CAPTION: Oleg Avyasyeda, Nenets Tribesman The 20th Century all but passed the Nentsi by. Snowmobiles are a rare exception in a lifestyle that has barely changed in thousands of years. The Avyasyeda family live 150 kms from the nearest town and 30 kms from their nearest neighbors. Once a month if the weather is good a helicopter makes the trip out to their village with a few of the luxuries of modern life -- paraffin, spare parts for the snowmobile and shot gun cartridges. Since the Russian Empire began its expansion into Siberia in the 16th century, the Nentsi have been fighting to protect their culture. The Soviet regime tried to settle them onto collective farms. It failed. But it succeeded in erasing much of the language and verbal culture - today only the older generation converse in the indigenous dialect. Now the onslaught of the oil companies on the grazing lands appears to spell final defeat. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "I don't know how our descendants will live. I mean the ones growing up now. Right now, we old folks can hold out somehow. But I don't know what will be left for the young." SUPER CAPTION: Oleg Avyasyeda, Nenets Tribesman And without the reindeer, the Nentsi as such will cease to exist too. Dress, footwear, thread, skis, musical instruments, sacrificial offerings - all come from the animals. SIBERIA - Khakassia Republic and Abakan city

13:16
Khakasia is situated in the south-west part of Eastern Siberia on the territories of Sayano-Altai plateau and Khakas-Minusinsk basin. Its length from the north to the south is 460 km, from the west to the east (in the widest part) is 200 km. The republic's geographical position is advantageous, as it links Khakasia with Irkutsk district, Kuzbass, central Krasnoyarsk region and the north. In the east and in the north it borders with Krasnoyarsk region, in the south - with Tuva Republic, in the south-west with Altai republic and in the west with Kemerovo district. Khakasia occupies a territory of 61,9 square kilometers. The administrative centre is the city of Abakan. The population of the republic is 537 000, 80,3% of them are Russians. The climate is sharply continental with dry and hot summer and cold winter with little snow. Temperature change and precipitation also differ very much from season to season. Sometimes the climate is different in different regions of Khakasia, that is defined by the landscape of the republic. The animal world of Khakasia includes 76 species of mammals, 317 species of birds. The nature of the republic strikes you by its amazing relief and colors. Khakasia is one of the rarest phenomena, as its landscapes are formed by archaeological monuments. Steppe sceneries are mixed with burial hills and menhirs (single stone steles), many of mountain peaks and rock ridges still have the prints of human activity. Historical monuments and fascinating nature attracts hundreds of tourists from all over the world. In the west and in the south Sayan mountains are situated, some parts of them reach the height of 2000 m. Sayan mountains occupy two thirds of the whole territory. The rest of the territory is taken by steppes and taiga, rivers and lakes. There are approximately 500 lakes here, 110 of them are salty. The most famous are lakes Shira, Itkul, Bele, Tus, Hankul. The main rivers are Abakan, Askiz, Tom, White Iyus, Black Iyus and Yenisei. The water of Yenisei is used to produce electricity (Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station and Mainskaya hydroelectric power station). Hydroelectric energy is connected with aluminum production. There are Sayanogorsk and Khakasian aluminum plants situated on the territory of the republic. Khakasia is one of the most developed agricultural regions of the Western Siberia. The base of cattle-breeding (sheep and dairy products) is vast territories occupied by pastures and hayfields. Horse breeding also plays an important role. Plant cultivation includes wheat, barley, millet and oat. Technical crops include sunflower and sugar-beet. The majority of the forests are birch forests. In some place you can meet larch and pine forests. Trees are the main natural resource of Khakasia. The republic possesses more than 4000 hectares. This country is rich in mineral resources such as jasper, granite, zeolite, iron, gold, coal, molybdenum, mineral and radon water. Khakasia is one of the oldest mining places of Russia. There are two national nature reserves here (The national nature reserve "Khakassian" and the nature reserve-museum "Kazanovka"). You can see more than 100 nature monuments in Khakasia, each of them is interesting for travelers. The main transport centre of the republic is its capital - Abakan city. Abakan is situated in the centre of Asia, almost on the same parallel with Magnitogorsk, Minsk and Hamburg. The city's history is long and rich. In 1675 a stockade town was built on the bank of the river Abakan. It gave the start to the Minusinsk basin development. In 1780 there appeared Ust-Abakan village, in 1925 - a village Khakassk. In 1931 this village turned into a city Abakan. It is an industrial, cultural and scientific centre of Khakasia. You can get to the city traveling by plane, by train or by bus. There are everyday straight flights from Moscow. There is also passenger traffic by train from such cities as Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk. You can get all the information concerning prices and time on the website of the Russian railroad.

Im-material Siberia

09:38
'Im-material Siberia' is a montage of images of materiality and immateriality linked to the global political economy of Siberia. Shot on the trans-Siberian train in September 2005, the raw material presented is a seemingly never-ending freight train moving from east to west delivering commodities such as crude oil and wood. The continuous movement of these raw, industrial commodities is interrupted by a range of immaterial imagery that connects the exploitation of Siberian natural resources to the management of the global political economy. Contemporary politico-economic strategies are characterized by a gap: On one hand, global management increasingly relies on an immaterial discourse of sustainability and corporate social responsibility, which is proliferated by way of multi-million dollar marketing campaigns that create a green brand image for multinational corporations particularly suited to ethically conscious western consumers. On the other hand, Russian political economy unmistakably positions itself as the new powerhouse of raw, dirty commodities supplying the west with much needed real materialities that enable the continuous growth of immaterial empires. The montage of 'Im-material Siberia' explores the antagonisms created by the confrontation of these im-materialities. Steffen Böhm

Барнаул / Barnaul in 1971

02:15
Барнаул в 1971 году Фотографии Б. Подгорного Barnaul in 1971 Photographs by B. Podgorny Music: "Musical sketch" by Tatiana Burtsev The Siberian city of Barnaul was founded in 1730 as a settlement for the workers at the nearby silver factory of Akinfy Demidov. and is located at the confluence of the Ob and Barnaulka Rivers on the West Siberian Plain.... Granted city status in 1771, the city grew, despite the remoteness of the location. The abolition of serfdom and the depletion of natural resources led to the closure in 1893 of the silver factory. The city turned its attention to other means and became a major mercantile centre for such industries as tanning, candle, brick, soda, fur, sawmill etc... A great fire consumed over half the town on the 5 May 1917 and many of the city's wooden buildings were destroyed. During the interwar years, Barnaul continued to expand with many industries and collective farms being established. During the Great patriotic War, many industries were moved to the city from Moscow, Leningrad, Odessa and Kharkov. The post war years were marked by an industrial boom and the city expanded greatly with large housing projects constructed in the the northern reaches of the city........

Workers Found These Creatures Frozen In The Siberian Ice. Now Scientists Are Doing The Incredible Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg Please do not forget to visit the site http://scribol.com ************************************************************** One summer’s day in 2015, contractor Yakov Androsov was exploring the Sakha Republic’s remote Siberian landscapes in eastern Russia, on the hunt for mammoth tusks. Little did he know, however, that he would stumble across something that was, at first sight, frankly unbelievable. But then Siberia is an especially important region for paleontologists. After all, its permafrost has preserved long-dead animals from the Pleistocene era – a period that lasted from around 1.8 million to 11,700 years ago – including mammoths and woolly rhinoceroses. --------------------------------------------------------- ►Article link:https://goo.gl/V97uGb --------------------------------------------------------- And the Sakha Republic, one of Russia’s federal subjects, makes up much of Siberia. It’s considered important because of its many natural resources; 99 percent of Russia’s diamonds, for example, are produced there. The newly discovered bones of the extinct, then, will only add to its importance. One significant find occurred in 2013 when the well-preserved remains of a woolly mammoth were found on an island off the Sakha Republic’s Arctic coast. Interestingly, its skin was in such remarkably good condition that scientists were able to take a complete DNA sample. ************************************************************** ►You can support the channel: PATREON https://goo.gl/KtaKrp ►Image credits: Vera Salnitskaya via The Siberian Times https://goo.gl/G8JtfY ►web: http://watchjojo.com ► SUBSCRIBE US: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg *Thank you :Robin Lewis ► Follow Us On Google Plus: https://goo.gl/JYf9Rr ► Like us Our Facebook Page: https://goo.gl/C5Rv92 ► Follow On Twitter: https://goo.gl/PZ2U1R ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com #watchjojo

BIBLICAL SIBERIAN RIVER TURNS 'BLOOD RED

03:03
RUSSIAN MEDIA REPORTS 'BIBLICAL BOMBSHELL' AS SIBERIAN RIVER TURNS 'BLOOD-RED. Moshe and Aharon did just as Hashem commanded: he lifted up the rod and struck the water in the Nile in the sight of Pharaoh and his courtiers, and all the water in the Nile was turned into blood.” Exodus 7 verse 20 Notwithstanding the comparison made by TASS, local officials are still searching for a more natural explanation. Galina Yevseeva, the spokesperson for the Tyumen region, told TASS that experts in the regional department of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (Rosprirodnadzor), the Russian agency responsible for environmental concerns, were investigating the cause of the shocking crimson color. Water samples were sent to the Center for Epidemiology in charge of public health where they are still conducting tests to check for toxic pollution.

Not only do they grow in the ecologically friendly environment, they are collected mainly by hereditary herbalists. The secrets of harvesting medicinal plants are passed from generation to generation in Siberia. Collecting herbs is a special ritual. Knowing exactly where, when and how we can gather this or that herb is greatly significant. Of primary importance is to know when plants are ripe enough to reveal their most exceptional properties. When collected upon reaching their necessary level of maturity, these gifts of nature will produce the highest therapeutic effect. Considering Siberian climate peculiarities, herbalists have only a few months for harvesting. It is the time when fierce winter eventually yields to the power of sun rays and relative warmth. All the power kept by plants during long winter months is concentrated in young green leaves. It is time to collect them! Precious Necklace Of Baikal

44:20
Dear friends of Lake Baikal and Russian nature! In 2015 the UNDP-GEF Regional Project “Integrated Natural Resource Management in the Baikal Basin Transboundary Ecosystem” (the Baikal project) completed an implementation of the special public awareness media concept “PRECIOUS NECKLACE OF BAIKAL”. Specially protected nature areas (SPNA) cover 33% of Lake Baikal and include nature reserves, nature sanctuaries, and national parks. There are several nature reserves and national parks located in and around Lake Baikal which together are THE PRECIOUS NECKLACE OF BAIKAL: the Baikalsky State Nature Biosphere Reserve, the Barguzinsky State Nature Biosphere Reserve, the Baikalo-Lensky State Nature Reserve, the Dzherginsky State Nature Reserve, the Sokhondinsky State Nature Biosphere Reserve, the Daursky State Nature Biosphere Reserve, the Alkhanaisky National Park, the Zabaikalsky National Park, the Pribaikalsky National Park, and the Tunkinsky National Park. The media concept bearing the same name, the PRECIOUS NECKLACE OF BAIKAL, developed under the Baikal project is to raise awareness of the people of Russia and the public in other countries about the current state and prospects of developing tourism in nature reserves and national parks of the Baikal region (Republic of Buryatia, Irkutsk Oblast , Zabaikalsky Krai). This is an area of unique flora and fauna, and magnificent landscapes. Special focus is put on eco-trails that lend visitors a possibility to enjoy nature in its pristine state. Ecotourism in SPNAs is developed with support from the Baikal Project. The Baikal Project in conjunction with the government of Russia is focusing on sustainable development of territories included in the protected areas of the Baikal basin. The issue of promoting ecotourism in international markets is currently of special importance, and for this reason a promotion campaign for SPNAs has been launched under the auspices of a project targeting the European tourist market with special emphasis on development of eco-trails and using ecotourism best practices, and also promoting protected areas (PA) through the Internet in different languages. Additionally the PRECIOUS NECKLACE OF BAIKAL media project has been produced to share the best practices of implementing ecotourism projects in SPNAs, engaging local communities, raising awareness, and attracting tourists. For the purposes of implementing this concept, expeditions have been arranged to all the nature reserves and national parks of the area, and professional photographers have been hired to conduct photo and video shoots of the main landscapes, tourist routes, and eco-trails. The Atlas of Culture Project has produced THE PRECIOUS NECKLACE OF BAIKAL documentary. The special edition of the World of Baikal Magazine has been produced and published which is a welcome addition to the Documentary and it describes all the SPNAs in and around Lake Baikal and lists the ecotours that lead through such areas. The documentary and the magazine have been produced both in the English and Russian languages. In addition, separate promotion video clips have been created for each protected area. The SPNAs play a key role in land use on the Baikal Nature Territory and serve as centers for both biodiversity conservation and ecotourism development providing viable economic alternatives to local communities. Protected areas are designed to protect the natural state of the environment and nature conservation sites that present historic and environmental value. Major responsible project partner is the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (Russian Federation). Additionally this project is supported by the Russian Geographical Society, the Baikal Institute of Nature Management of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, Metropol Group of Companies. Detailed information about the project “PRECIOUS NECKLACE OF BAIKAL” and all media material are available on this web site: http://baikal.iwlearn.org/en/pictures/precious-necklace-of-baikal

"Privatization of Natural Resources" (HARAM) OIL, WATER, OXYGEN, ETC. Muslims Must Know!

04:16
"Privatization of Natural Resources" (HARAM) OIL, WATER, OXYGEN, ETC. Muslims Must Know! In general, no. There are many evidences on this. For example, the saying of the messenger Mohamed (PBUH) "All people share water, herbage, and fire." Scholars have interpreted fire to be things that can produce fire such as oil, coal etc. Also, during the life time of the messenger, a person asked him about things that should not be forbidden to anyone, he replied water, he said what-else, he replied salt. Scholars have debated this issue and generally, the idea is if the resources are easily obtained from its source and in plenty without effort from the prospector, then it will not be allowed to be privatized. However, if it requires substantial effort to obtain then under certain conditions it can be privatized.

Im material Siberia

Mineral Rape in the DRC

15:56
Grand Theft Congo (2005): The major problem facing Africa is corruption and control of resources. In the DRC, the military is stealing minerals to sell to Western companies. For downloads and more information visit http://www.journeyman.tv/18683/short-films/grand-theft-congo.html At a remote mine in central DRC, workers with torches and pick axes hack at the ruddy earth. They are mining cassiterite, a mineral vital in the production of laptops and mobile phones. But dispersed among the miners are Congolese Government troops -- in plain clothes for the camera -- literally forcing most workers to work at gunpoint. 'The soldiers always steal everything. They even come to shoot people down the mineshafts,' complains Regina Maponda. Western greed for cassiterite is fuelling the boom -- at an airfield near the mine, soldiers jealously guard their loot as it makes it way to Japan and the West. Conflict mining is a curse, and it is difficult to see what the G8 leaders can do. Freight trains in winter in Siberia

02:15
West-Siberian railway in 2006, celebrated its 110-year anniversary. But its history starts much earlier in the 30-ies of the XIX century. It then emerged the idea of the necessity of railway construction in Siberia, which would ensure more rapid settlement of this region, the development of natural resources, the development of industry and trade. But it's been tens of years before the need arose to develop the rail network for economic reasons. On 1 June 1887 a special meeting of the members of the Committee of Ministers adopted a decision on the construction of individual sections of the railway in Siberia: Central Siberian from Tomsk to Irkutsk, Transbaikalia from lake Baikal to Sretensk and Siberian from Vladivostok to the village of Busse on the Ussuri river. First Monitoring System Used in Amur Tiger and Leopard Conservation

01:23
The first Natural Resource Monitoring System was officially launched at northeast China's National Park for the Amur Tiger and Amur Leopard in Beijing on Thursday. Beijing Normal University and the State Forestry Administration's Monitoring and Research Center for the Amur Tiger and Amur Leopard are using this intelligent system to monitor and evaluate the habits of wildlife in the national park. This system incorporates new technologies including cloud storage, intelligent analysis and interconnectivity. Over 100 monitoring terminals have been installed over the 500-square-kilometer area where the tigers and leopards have been frequently spotted. Video terminals use a 4G network to transmit the data, including imagines and sounds, back to the monitoring and research center, in order to keep track of the status of the wild Amur Tiger and Amur Leopard populations. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20180209/8073165.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cctvnewscontent/ Video on Demand: www.cctvplus.com If you are in demand of this video footage, please contact with our business development team via email: [email protected]

James explains: http://bit.ly/1Pzy1k5 ____________ The armies of World War II needed a vast supply and variety of resources. The Allies had many of those resources on their side, but the Axis powers did not. Germany imported many of its resources from countries it would soon be fighting, and needed their war strategy to account for the acquisition of those resources. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed with the USSR set up a trade agreement to bring them oil from Russia for a while, in addition to establishing temporary non-aggression with the Soviets. When the war began in earnest, Germany targeted Norway with its supply of aluminum and iron as well as its access to the even more resource-rich Sweden. Conquering France also gave them access to rich farmland to feed the troops. But even though they had gained control of the oil fields in Romania, it wasn't enough to power their war machine. Many Nazi generals wanted to target North Africa for this, but Hitler had his sights set on the Soviet Union and wound up squandering much of Germany's reserves in a fruitless effort there. Meanwhile, Japan's entrance into the war had cost them their primary trading partner: the United States. The Japanese army wanted to pursue the Northern Expansion Doctrine (Hokushin-Ron) and push through China into Siberia, wounding the USSR in the process. They attempted this strategy, but the Soviets met them in Mongolia and pushed them back in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol. So they turned to the Southern Expansion Doctrine (Nanshin-Ron) advocated by the navy, and began to sweep up islands in the Pacific. They planned to strip the European colonial powers of their holdings, and they succeeded in capturing 90% of the world's rubber production. But the US responded by synthesizing rubber, and built an industry so large that even today, more rubber is synthesized than harvested. If World War I was the first industrial war, marked by mass production and industrial capacity, then World War II was the first scientific war, marked by advancements like synthesis, radar, and jet engines. ____________ ♫ Get the intro music here! http://bit.ly/1EQA5N7 *Music by Demetori: http://bit.ly/1AaJG4H ♫ Get the outro music here! http://bit.ly/23isQfx *Music by Sean and Dean Kiner: http://bit.ly/1WdBhnm

UNBELIEVABLE! Real Estate Facts That Will Make You Question EVERYTHING

07:24
https://retipster.com/morerealestatefacts Are you sick and tired of your next-door neighbors? You might consider moving to the Siberian Sakha Republic. This gigantic territory covers about 20% of Russia's land mass (is roughly the size of India) and has a total population of fewer than one million people. To put that in perspective, that’s less than one person per square mile. In fact, most of the area still largely unexplored by humans. Of course, this place is in the Arctic Circle and the temperature frequently hovers around -40 degrees… but hey, if you’re an introvert, this could be the place for you. https://youtu.be/3s2RIurQV0Q When you see a giant building like the Seattle Space Needle with a rotating floor at the top, most people would assume it takes a pretty big motor to spin an entire restaurant all day and all night. But you might be surprised to know that it only takes a 1.5 horsepower motor to do that work. To give you some perspective, most trained athletes can manage up to about 2.5 horsepower for brief periods of time. How is this possible? Because the Space Needle was built to be perfectly balanced, the rotating action requires a very small amount of exertion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Needle Part of what makes America such a fortunate country is the variety of climates, elevations and natural resources available. Something you may not have known is that the highest and lowest points in the continental United States are both located in the same county. Mount Whitney is the highest point 14,505 feet and the Badwater Basin in Death Valley is the lowest point at 282 feet below sea level. I mean, what are the chances of that? Right? https://www.cntraveler.com/stories/2014-11-10/maphead-ken-jennings-inyo-county-california-elevation If you’ve ever been to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, you probably stood in awe looking at Cinderella’s Castle… but did you know that this castle isn’t nearly as big as it looks? When this structure was built, the builders used a set-building trick known as forced perspective, which makes objects appear much larger than they are. Why? Because huge buildings take up a lot of space and cost a ton of money, but by applying forced perspective, it becomes much more economical and still looks just as impressive. https://youtu.be/3KK7XxcZWCc Have you ever seen a castle with a moat (that big body of water with a draw bridge over it)? Most people think moats exist to stop attackers from getting over the castle walls, but the REAL purpose of a moat is to stop tunnelers. Tunneling under a castle is a very effective means of collapsing the walls and infiltrating it, and a water-filled moat will cause any tunnel to collapse. http://medievalcastles.stormthecastle.com/parts-of-a-medieval-castle.htm And by the way - did you know there’s a castle in the Czech Republic with a Bear Moat that has been filled with ACTUAL BEARS for the past 300 years? Why? My guess is because bears are marauding murderous killing machines, and they’re 100 times more terrifying than water… but that’s just a guess http://www.castle.ckrumlov.cz/docs/en/zamek_1nadvori_mpriko.xml If you're stuck in Mexico and you want to get to the U.S. - probably the best town to live in is called Los Algodones. If you travel in any cardinal direction from this town (north, south, east or west), you will end up in the U.S. China has long been known for having lots of big numbers. Whether you’re talking about the country’s population, the number of skyscrapers or the amount of pollution they release into the atmosphere - there are a lot of reasons we can look at China and say “wow”. Well, here’s one more reason… did you know that between 2011 and 2013, China used more cement than the United States did in the entire 20th century?? It’d be one thing if we were comparing China to a teeny tiny nation like Denmark or Jamaica… but this is the United States we’re talking about! And China makes us look like we hardly use any resources (which is laughable). https://www.gatesnotes.com/Books/Making-the-Modern-World When most people think about Alcatraz Island, they think of the world-renowned prison that held some of the most dangerous criminals of the 20th century, but this island has a lot more history than most people know. In the 1800s, this island was owned by the U.S. Army and was built into the most heavily armed entity on the West Coast. It also held the first functioning lighthouse on the West Coast. Eventually, the island was converted to a detention facility that functioned as a minimum security prison, holding civilians arrested for treason during the Civil War. Some of the men were even employed as babysitters for the families of prison officers. That’s quite a diverse history, eh? https://www.thoughtco.com/alcatraz-prison-overview-1435716

Tiger 'seeks out human help' after suffering gum problems

04:46
An endangered tigress defied all its normal instincts and walked out of the wild into a village to seek human help over a severe teeth and gum problem. The rare predator - one of only 500 or so Siberian tigers living in their snowy natural habitat in eastern Russia - found a remote house and quietly lay down on the porch. The big cats - the largest in the world - normally shun all human contact, but it was clear the exhausted and emaciated animal could no longer eat and needed urgent dental assistance. Scroll down for video Galina Tsimano, who lives in far-flung Solontsovy - 3,915 miles east of Moscow - explained how her neighbour on the outskirts of the village found the unexpected big cat on his doormat in the early morning. 'Alexey Khaideyev came across a tiger on his porch,' she said. 'He wanted to go out to the yard in the morning, but his door was pressed by 'someone' from outside. 'He began to push the door and heard a tiger growling. 'He went back inside and started calling all the emergency services.' The predator did not let him approach too close but nor did it pounce on him. Tiger experts are sure the predator was seeking human help as a desperate last resort. An emergency team came and sedated the animal then moved it to a rehabilitation centre in Alekseevka village. Here, specialists revealed the predator was around ten years old and female while also identifying an acute problem in the beast's jaw. 'The tigress behaved absolutely peacefully, as if she was waiting for help,' Sergey Aramilev, director of the Amur Tiger Centre, told The Siberian Times. 'Nevertheless, the condition of the rare predator is severe and it needs urgent action.' A fear that she had been wounded by poachers - a major threat to the survival of the species - proved unfounded. 'There were no visible injuries from firearms,' he said. 'However, there are problems with her oral cavity. ' Conservationist Yury Kolpak, from Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources, said: 'The tigress is thoroughly exhausted. 'She has serious gum problems and there are no upper teeth.' It is likely her tiredness is due to being unable to eat properly, but the big cat is now feasting on ground meat. 'Now it is very important to provide the predator with qualified assistance.' Vets are looking for ways to solve the animals dental problems but she is currently not strong enough the to be put under a general anaesthetic for major surgery. 'We really hope that the tigress will pick herself up and survive,' said Aramilev. 'For our part, we are doing everything possible.'

Russia captures key resource markets

01:19
Russian companies actively make deals and purchases to entrench themselves in key mining and oil markets. As the Oilprice.com wrote, it may a be a serious challenge for the US, Canada, Great Britain and Australia. The Russian mining companies have launched a significant number of new projects for the latest week. Everything started from purchase of the Indian Essar Oil company consortium, worth 7.5bln dollars. Another important deal on the Indian market is agreement with the Gazprom on supplies of the liquefied natural gas of 2.5m tons. Everything happened at a time when the President of Russia Vladimir Putin visited India, during which the Head of State signed agreements on cooperation in the oil sphere and joint research on a gas pipeline installation in the country. A deal in golden sphere was also reached. The Indian company SUN Gold along with the Russian fund will develop the Klyuchevsk field in the Eastern Siberia, the company plans to invest 500m dollars. Players from China and investors from the Republic of South Africa and Brazil are also involved. The authors believe that it evidences Russia’s aggressive moving forward in energy and mining sphere in order to secure itself key global markets. As it is noted, it’s an evident challenge to other mining countries.
