Safety of nuclear fuel
The JRC activities with regard to the safety of nuclear fuel concentrate on prevention and mitigation of the consequences of hypothetical accidents. The two main aspects in this research are the mechanical integrity of the fuel assemblies during reactor lifetime, and fuel response to transient conditions and to severe reactor accident conditions. The studies have also to reflect on the new reactor strategies presently considered worldwide, such as the Generation IV International Forum, inspired by a comprehensive assessment including public concerns, such as improved safety, reduced wastes and improved resistance to proliferation.

Technological strategies to improve safety of fresh food
QAAFI Science Seminar 6 May 2014 Presented by Dr Yasmina Sultanbawa Senior Research Fellow ABSTRACT New food safety issues emerge for many reasons. It could be due to a microorganism evolving to become a pathogen or a pathogen becoming more virulent. The globalised food supply chain and food production methods are also seen as contributing factors. Other reasons are the change in eating habits of people and their desire to lead a healthy lifestyle. Consequently, there has been an increase in the consumption of fresh/ unprocessed/ additive free food. Food safety and quality and sustainability of production are some of the driving forces that are presently changing the market for fresh food. The challenges of addressing the safety issues have resulted in the development of innovative technologies to improve safety of fresh food. Among, these technologies, the most promising are those based on the search for affordable and environmentally friendly novel technologies. Natural preservation technologies and innovative packaging solutions will be discussed with successful commercial applications. Dr Yasmina Sultanbawa http://www.qaafi.uq.edu.au/sultanbawa-dr-yasmina Dr Sultanbawa is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences within QAAFI. Yasmina's main research interests are in the use of natural preservation technologies to extend storage life in different food commodities, real time shelf life modelling studies, elucidating mechanisms of antimicrobial action, development of functional ingredients from Australian native plant sources, targeting the food, beverage and health markets and the use of innovative packaging solutions to reduce food losses in the supply chain. She works with indigenous communities to add value to traditional food to enable economic benefits to flow into these communities and to introduce these foods and ingredients to the food industry.

When To Sell Stocks - 5 Strategies Explained
What do I do? Full-time independent stock market analyst and researcher: https://sven-carlin-research-platform.teachable.com/p/stock-market-research-platform Check the comparative stock list table on my Stock market research platform under curriculum preview! I am also a book author: Modern Value Investing book: https://amzn.to/2lvfH3t More about me and some written reports at the Sven Carlin blog: https://svencarlin.com Stock market for modern value investors Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/modernvalueinvesting/ The easiest thing to do is to buy a stock. The difficult thing to do is to know when to sell. Selling stocks is always tricky because a stock can always go up just after you sold it. The first discussed strategy, that looks towards fundamental indicators and uses fundamental analysis certainly helps in avoiding selling too early or too late. Another strategy is portfolio rebalancing that makes things much easier as you have to mechanically sell when something appreciates. The third strategy involves buying something much better, i.e. 50% better than the other portfolio holding. A better investing opportunity can always arise but you shouldn't trade too much around it. The fourth strategy is about using a stop loss. I discuss the pros and cons of using a stop loss. the fifth is not so much a strategy as the reaching of a goal, when you did it, sell your stocks and enjoy your life.

Strategies To Protect Against A Coming Storm, According To Expert
When markets are in turmoil, there are only a few trustworthy assets to turn to for protection, this according to Mike Philbrick, portfolio manager of ReSolve Asset Management. “[Gold] is a very different asset class that responds differently to economic regimes that manifest very often, but when they do manifest, boy, you better have some of these assets in there like long-duration treasuries and like gold because they’re the only thing that structurally will perform,” Philbrick told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Inside ETFs Canada conference in Montreal. _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. Strategy Development Simplified: What Is Strategy & How To Develop One? ✓
In this month's episode, I teach you various layers of strategy and how to use strategy tools. What I’d like to do in about 45 minutes to an hour is to give you a sense of what strategy is, what tools we use to develop strategy, and then teach you how to apply these corporate level tools to our day to day lives through developing strategic thinking abilities. So if you take this mini-course, by the end of it, you’ll very clearly learn what strategy is and its various levels such corporate strategy, business strategy, and functional strategies. You will no longer confuse it with tasks or goals, then you will learn about Strategy Canvas with value curves. It’s a tool that will help you see the bigger picture, help you with the positioning of your offerings and hence develop strategies to become… unique. And while I am teaching you these, I’ll run so many case studies to make it crystal clear for you. Then finally, the second half of the video will be the most useful part to you. Because in reality, you are probably not the strategy manager or the CEO of a large multinational company, you are probably not Coca Cola’s Chairman, so what I did at the 2nd half of the video is to customize strategy development so it can be applicable to your day to day lives. You will learn how to develop a strategic thinking that will apply to your work, apply to your family life, your school, in simple terms; your life. You’ll be a smarter person, because you’ll be more strategic in your thinking, you’ll have more success because you’ll be able to identify more opportunities, you’ll fail less because you’ll be able to identify risks even before they become apparent. And I’ll try my best to do the impossible and cover everything under 1 hour and make it super easy to understand. I’ll try but let’s see if I’ll succeed. So, what is strategy; Strategy is a word that gets used a lot and often in a wrong context. Most people confuse it with goals. Essentially, strategy is a roadmap to how we are going to win. Where you are is your “as-is” state, and where you want to go is your “to-be” state. How you are going to bridge that gap is your strategy. So, if I was to teach strategy to my children I’d say, you wanna reach the finish line first. You may walk straight to the finish line at 5 kms per hour, Or you may extend your route, take more time as you have to travel more distance, but collect the speed boost on the way so you go faster at the end at around 20 km per hour. Collecting that speed boost to win would be your strategy. now let’s get back to the adult world, in business, we have 3 major layers of strategy; We have Corporate Strategy We have Business Strategy And we have Functional strategy So, let’s start with corporate strategy;

Earthquake proof: Japan building made quake-safe by curtain of cables anchoring it down - TomoNews
NOMI, JAPAN — A giant curtain of special cables is the latest earthquake-proofing innovation to come out of Japan, and it combines both functionality and sleek design. With Japan's location along the Pacific Ring of Fire making it prone to earthquakes, citizens are continually finding ways to protect the country's infrastructure. CNN reports that textile company Komatsu Seiren has created threads made from thermoplastic carbon fiber composite, which are braided to form a strong yet flexible rod that's as strong as iron, but 90 percent lighter. The rods have been installed outside the company's building - draping all around the structure and essentially tethering the roof to the ground. They are also inside the building, and serve to strengthen the interior walls. When the ground shifts from side to side during an earthquake, the rods stretch and pull the structure back in the opposite direction to prevent shaking. The project is a collaboration between Komatsu and Tokyo-based architectural design firm Kengo Kuma. It will soon be used to reinforce Zenkoji Temple in Nagano, one of Japan's oldest temples. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Speakers: Krista Armstrong, PhD, Vice President, Strategic Development, Premier Research Susan Kozauer, MD, Senior Medical Director, Psychiatry, Premier Research Ensuring that psychiatry clinical trial data accurately captures a compound’s safety and efficacy potential requires an approach that accounts for challenges inherent in working with a mentally ill population. Observing changes in the disease under study is partly a subjective process, and that creates risk of undue influence that the patient and/or investigator may not recognize. Additionally, not all symptomatic improvement in mental disorders is necessarily attributable to the product under study. Some may result from unrelated factors that produce a therapeutic effect that erodes the efficacy signal of a potential treatment. These are among many issues that, if identified and mitigated early in the development process, can maximize the potential for conclusive study results. This webinar will examine these factors, with particular focus on study design considerations, site factors, subject selection and eligibility, and data surveillance.

Caregiver Strategies: Positioning for Comfort
This video was developed by treatment professionals at the Johnson Center for Child Health and Development. Print and share the flyer: http://ariconference.com/webinars/support.pdf Positioning for comfort is a support measure used to introduce comfort and control to patients during medical procedures, such as a blood draw. Typically, caregivers are asked to “hold” their child in different positions that will not only increase coping, but increase the safety of you, your child, and your health care provider. It is important to remember to talk to your child about the nurse or health care team member “holding” in order to increase ease.
