TradeStation offers connection to numerous data exchanges. But, you must subscribe to these data services in order to stream real-time data into your account. Otherwise, the data is delayed anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the exchange that is providing this data. Here I have a quotes and a chart analysis window open. A capital letter "D" in parenthesis right after the symbol stands for Delayed, which means the symbol is streaming delayed data. I have not signed up for exchange where that symbol is listed, and therefore I'm not receiving real-time data. If you would like to receive real-time data on any symbol, you will need to manually select and add to your account the specific exchange where the symbol is traded. In fact, trading, whether it's done in a simulated environment or a real account, is only possible on real-time data. The process to add real-time data is very simple and your data should stream real-time within minutes of adding an exchange. In the TradeStation platform, click on help, account services, and select Add/Remove Data or Features. This will take you to the TradeStation website, and you should be prompted to log on using your TradeStation username and password. Once you log on, you will see a list of data exchanges and optional features that are currently running on your platform, and the monthly cost. Click the Edit button to add or remove data or platform features. Please pay close attention to the disclaimer at the bottom of this page: Please note that optional real-time data fees are debited in advance for the upcoming month and cannot be prorated or refunded. Therefore, we recommend adding additional exchanges at the beginning of the month and canceling exchanges at the end of the month in order to receive the most value for the monthly data fee.

Modern day encryption is performed in two different ways. Check out http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. Using the same key or using a pair of keys called the public and private keys. This video looks at how these systems work and how they can be used together to perform encryption. Download the PDF handout http://itfreetraining.com/Handouts/Ce... Encryption Types Encryption is the process of scrambling data so it cannot be read without a decryption key. Encryption prevents data being read by a 3rd party if it is intercepted by a 3rd party. The two encryption methods that are used today are symmetric and public key encryption. Symmetric Key Symmetric key encryption uses the same key to encrypt data as decrypt data. This is generally quite fast when compared with public key encryption. In order to protect the data, the key needs to be secured. If a 3rd party was able to gain access to the key, they could decrypt any data that was encrypt with that data. For this reason, a secure channel is required to transfer the key if you need to transfer data between two points. For example, if you encrypted data on a CD and mail it to another party, the key must also be transferred to the second party so that they can decrypt the data. This is often done using e-mail or the telephone. In a lot of cases, sending the data using one method and the key using another method is enough to protect the data as an attacker would need to get both in order to decrypt the data. Public Key Encryption This method of encryption uses two keys. One key is used to encrypt data and the other key is used to decrypt data. The advantage of this is that the public key can be downloaded by anyone. Anyone with the public key can encrypt data that can only be decrypted using a private key. This means the public key does not need to be secured. The private key does need to be keep in a safe place. The advantage of using such a system is the private key is not required by the other party to perform encryption. Since the private key does not need to be transferred to the second party there is no risk of the private key being intercepted by a 3rd party. Public Key encryption is slower when compared with symmetric key so it is not always suitable for every application. The math used is complex but to put it simply it uses the modulus or remainder operator. For example, if you wanted to solve X mod 5 = 2, the possible solutions would be 2, 7, 12 and so on. The private key provides additional information which allows the problem to be solved easily. The math is more complex and uses much larger numbers than this but basically public and private key encryption rely on the modulus operator to work. Combing The Two There are two reasons you want to combine the two. The first is that often communication will be broken into two steps. Key exchange and data exchange. For key exchange, to protect the key used in data exchange it is often encrypted using public key encryption. Although slower than symmetric key encryption, this method ensures the key cannot accessed by a 3rd party while being transferred. Since the key has been transferred using a secure channel, a symmetric key can be used for data exchange. In some cases, data exchange may be done using public key encryption. If this is the case, often the data exchange will be done using a small key size to reduce the processing time. The second reason that both may be used is when a symmetric key is used and the key needs to be provided to multiple users. For example, if you are using encryption file system (EFS) this allows multiple users to access the same file, which includes recovery users. In order to make this possible, multiple copies of the same key are stored in the file and protected from being read by encrypting it with the public key of each user that requires access. Eight data scientists selected by Bloomberg participated in the Bloomberg Data for Good Exchange Immersion Day program, with a focus on governance and community-driven missions in major cities in the U.S. and overseas: New York, Philadelphia, Paris and Bogotá, Colombia. The researchers spent several days working with their host organizations to execute a data science project based on specific needs, goals and challenges. Host organizations spanned from government offices to nonprofits in areas like education, technology and healthcare. Over the course of the program, the collaborations reflected great diversity in terms of needs and objectives. Working together with Bloomberg Associates, some of the data scientists aimed to help city government successfully tackle complex and difficult challenges to positively impact the quality of life of their citizens. For example, the team in Paris worked to create a new dashboard to better understand how key performance metrics are achieved, with the goal of helping the city with its plans to launch new, publicly-supported civic spaces for startups. In Bogotá, they created a bridge between citizens and the city’s administration, helping directors and heads of citizen services better understand and visualize complaints from residents. Some of the other data scientists partnered with nonprofits in the U.S. to help them find new ways to leverage their existing data to improve their delivery of services. For example, outside Philadelphia, healthcare nonprofit Bringing Hope Home, which works to provide assistance to families with cancer, explored how to use data science to shorten the wait time for services. And three of the projects were based in New York City. One researcher worked with continuing education nonprofit Matriculate to build a real-time data platform to better communicate with high achieving high school students from low income communities. Another worked with Grand Central Partnership, one of the largest business improvement districts in the world, better understand how consumers interact with various assets (e.g., benches, light poles, trash cans, etc.) in this busy portion of midtown Manhattan to better ensure their upkeep. And lastly, a team at iMentor, a nonprofit that pairs industry executives with high school students for professional training, built a neural network to weigh performance evaluation data from mentors and determine how likely their student participants are to find career success. During this panel session, participating Immersion Day data scientists and leaders from their host organizations discussed their projects and lessons learned with NYC Media Lab Executive Director Justin Hendrix. It allows one program to subscribe to items made available by another program, for example a cell in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, and be notified whenever that item changes. DDE was partially superseded by Object Linking and Embedding (OLE), but remains used for simple interprocess communication tasks. Dynamic Data Exchange was first introduced in 1987 with the release of Windows 2.0 as a method of interprocess communication so that one program could communicate with or control another program, somewhat like Sun's RPC (Remote Procedure Call). It used the "Windows Messaging Layer" functionality within Windows. DDE continues to work even in modern versions of Windows, but has been superseded by newer technologies. Windows for Workgroups introduced a remoting version called NetDDE. OLE and OLE Automation are more advanced than DDE, but have proven to be bulky and difficult to code. OLE is far more sophisticated and capable than DDE because it is built on top of Microsoft's Component Object Model, but also suffers from COM's problems of a higher performance penalty and a much steeper learning curve. COM that works between networked machines is known as DCOM (Distributed COM). .NET Remoting provides a layered architecture for interprocess communication in the .NET Framework. However, legacy DDE is still used in several places inside Windows, e.g. for Shell file associations and for the copy, cut and paste functions. The primary function of DDE is to allow Windows applications to share data. For example, a cell in Microsoft Excel could be linked to a value in another application and when the value changed, it would be automatically updated in the Excel spreadsheet. The data communication was established by a simple, three-segment model. Each program was known to DDE by its "application" name. Each application could further organize information by groups known as "topic" and each topic could serve up individual pieces of data as an "item". For example, if a user wanted to pull a value from Microsoft Excel which was contained in a spreadsheet called "Book1.xls" in the cell in the first row and first column, the application would be "Excel", the topic "Book1.xls" and the item "r1c1". A common use of DDE is for custom-developed applications to control off-the-shelf software. For example, a custom in-house application might use DDE to open a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and fill it with data, by opening a DDE conversation with Excel and sending it DDE commands. Today, however, one could also use the Excel object model with OLE Automation (part of COM). The technique is, however, still in use, particularly for distribution of financial data. DDE has also been widely used in the SAS programming language for manipulating Excel and transferring data between SAS and Excel and can be used to format Excel workbooks from within a SAS program. Wonderware developed an extension for DDE called NetDDE that could be used to initiate and maintain the network connections needed for DDE conversations between DDE-aware applications running on different computers in a network and transparently exchange data. A DDE conversation is an interaction between client and server applications. NetDDE could be used along with DDE and the DDE management library (DDEML) in applications. Microsoft licensed a basic (NetBIOS Frames protocol only) version of the product for inclusion in various versions of Windows from Windows for Workgroups to Windows XP. In addition, Wonderware also sold an enhanced version of NetDDE to their own customers that included support for TCP/IP. The technology is extensively used in the SCADA field. Basic Windows applications using NetDDE are Clipbook Viewer, WinChat and Microsoft Hearts. NetDDE was still included with Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Service Pack 2, although it was disabled by default. It has been removed entirely in Windows Vista. However, this will not prevent existing versions of NetDDE from being installed and functioning on later versions of Windows.
