I know how demanding your audience can be and how tough it is to find new ideas all the time. We came to the rescue with 5 cool and simple ideas you can use at your next corporate event to really make an impression. 1. Food Using F&B as a vehicle for branding in corporate events is the hot trend of 2018. Try having bartenders that create custom cocktails for your attendees, designed for each guest, they share a little bit about themselves and the bartender comes up with a mix to reflect their personality. A refreshing way to engage with a brand. Alcohol lollipops are a fun way of driving brand awareness and being playful while catering to an adult audience, a great combination for a corporate event environment. 2. Visual Collaboration The second idea I have for you is actually provided by the very sponsor of this video, Evenium, and it’s called Visual Collaboration, it’s a tool that I particularly like and enjoy because it’s very engaging for the audience. If you work with C level suite attendees in particular, you want to have technology tools that enable collaboration, especially around team building activities, small executive meetings, you probably want to encourage brainstorming in the room and using technology can really help to streamline that process, without relying on whiteboards. Tech can be extremely effective to gather input from everyone and have a moderator that pulls it all together and presents the results. 3. Meeting Design Mix up your room layout and furniture to avoid the usual classroom type of environment that really kills interest even before people enter the room. Clever Branding Number 4 is about clever branding, placing branding where you don’t expect it. One that I particularly love is the use of the logo or messaging on the staircase leading to the main conference room. A perfect photo opportunity for the guests, it makes a visual impact. If you have the capacity, work with your sponsors or internal stakeholders to create specific areas within the event, such as lounges and areas dedicated to different activities. Don’t just stick to the expected. Create the work area, the relax area, the meditation area… play with meeting design and be clever working with sponsors. 5. Graphic Recording If you have association style meetings, with content that is super technical, but still you need to engage your attendees, another idea for you is graphic recording. Having an artist on site recording what is happening, e.g. using cartoons, to really summarize what your speakers are saying, what the sessions are about, is a great way to visually summarize what is being discussed. Not everybody learns in the same way and it can be powerful. I’ve seen it at very high end corporate meetings, always loved by attendees. In other words, a personal network is a group of caring, dedicated people who are committed to maintain a relationship with a person in order to support a given set of activities. In fact it wasn’t a something, but a someone. This person, a self professed introvert, was one of the best networked people I know, with connections from Holly wood to the venture capital world, to personal development world. Once I found this out about him, I began to ask him how that all came about and that’s what I want to share with you today. His name by the way is Evan Carmichael, he’s a YouTuber who makes inspiring content for entrepreneurs. I’ll put a link to his channel in the description. So here’s what I saw from him. First off, redefine what constitutes a networking event. Most things with “networking” in the title are a complete waste of time. It attracts people who are looking to develop a network instead of a relationship. The thought of networking was a foreign concept to students in the past. Oh, and I am not talking about being on Facebook. That is socializing, not really networking in a business sense. I think when students thought of networking they thought "UGH, I rather stick a fork in my eye!" I think attitudes are changing now because students see the impact of the recession in their households and know they need a lot of tools to successfully enter the job market. So here are some of my networking tips for college students who hate to network. First, hope is not a plan. When my kids were growing up I used to have a saying on my fridge. "Hope is Not a Plan." I hope I get into that class, I hope I pass, I hope I graduate etc. You need a plan of action to achieve your academic goals and it is the same with networking. You should set a strategy for what you want to achieve and who you need to meet to get you there. You need to intensively focus your activities on getting a job. That's key today. You need to use all of the tools available to you. You don't have much of a choice. That means attending events where there are lots of adults versus student networking groups. Hey, don't get me wrong, I think being involved with PRSA student chapters is great but the jobs and internships are at the mainstream PRSA and IABC Chapters. It is pretty basic but you need business cards. No ifs, ands, or buts. If you have any design or creative courses at your school, connect with those people and have them design your cards so they are unique and distinctive. Believe me gents, handing out business cards will make you look like much less of a... (I will let you fill in the blanks). Register your own domain name by buying your name. You may move a lot but your personal URL will be your permanent address. It will help your SEO and the background checks that will be done in the future, will be yours forever. Find your favorite geek to build you a one page landing page. You will keep building it for the rest of your life and that's what websites will become in the future. Then, hit your parents up for a budget to attend networking events. The majority of events have student rates. I think your parents will be more receptive to funding you attending networking events than going to Vegas for the weekend. You need to master Linkedin. You have no choice because that is what HR departments use. Use a business type photo on your profile. I can guarantee that you will look very impressive if you have a complete profile with lots of connections and recommendations. Get recommendations from your Profs, part time jobs, volunteer connections etc. Post updates daily, not about your favorite taco but about the networking events you are going to attend. Another tip is don't think of your parents friends as old people. Look at them as data bases, Linkedin with them. If they are in a field you are interested in, ask for a courtesy interview. Trust me, they will be eager to help. Most parents are instilled with secret wiring code that says you must help your friends and peers children. It is an unwritten rule. Leverage it. Create the world you want to live in the future by forming it with your networking activity today. If you want to connect with people with lots of social currency then volunteer and attend fund raising events which are excellent networking events. A lot of people prior to the recession used to live in a world of "this is what I got." We saw a lot of that in the last decade. It didn't last and neither did its values. These are the times to live in a world of "this is how I can help." Let it define your networking strategy. Remember it is up to you to reinvent the world to your vision and create the promise of change that all ages embrace.

Crowd-Streaming Facebook Live allows you to broadcast live on Facebook with just your smartphone and then makes the video available in your stream afterwards, giving it preference over other content. You can use it and so can your attendees. Think of creative ways to encourage broadcasts and you’ll increase your word-of-mouth marketing and reach. 2. Personalized Offerings As data gets more and more sophisticated we are seeing event planners use it as a way to predict interests, shape offerings, streamline registration and sell more tickets. Past actions are influencing the marketing message visitors see and enable us to retarget warm leads, for greater conversion rates. Participants can benefit from a customized event experience through personalized agendas they can shape on their own, automated networking suggestions based on past activity and interests, and auto-scheduled suggestions to help them make the most of attending the event. 3. The Softer Side Topics like mindfulness, soft skills, and emotional intelligence will continue to be hot topics in sessions. You can also look to increase your offering in other areas, like creating sensory lounges where attendees can enjoy some down time without retreating to their hotel rooms. 4. Active Year-Round Marketing Building word-of-mouth will soon be the only organic way to reach attendees. This means following them on social media, reaching out to industry influencers, listening for mentions, interacting with past attendees, creating an online community for recurring events, and other ways to engage throughout the year. These actions will help to draw more sponsors and attendees. 5. Informal Thought Labs Less formal presentations are a top trend as there is growing interest in equality between speakers and the audience. This week Eric Worre gives you 10 Strategies to Become an Event Promotion Machine, and ideas on how you can be a world class promoter. Promotion in network marketing is the number one highest paid skill. The people who can get people to make a decision to go and attend an event, they get paid bigger than anybody else in network marketing… When people go to events, their vision changes, their game plan changes, and their view of the future changes. In this video Eric is discussing event promotion for the promotional partners of the upcoming Recruiting Mastery event, but the concept is the same regardless of the event or company. Strategy #1 is to Promote. As Eric explains, don’t confuse Promotion with Announcements. Most people announce, and announcements don’t create promotion. Make sure people know that you are committed to it also, let them know the value and benefits. For example, “Here’s all the things you’re going to get if you decide to attend this event with us.” Promotion is all inclusive. Strategy #2, promote to your entire team. Talk about what they are going to learn. Talk about the relationships, talk about the fun, adventure, excitement and ideas. Talk about all the benefits they would get by being there. Strategy #3 – Work With Your Leaders. Identify key leaders that are going to be part of your promotional team. Give those people some benefits for promotion and results, such as maybe you have a special dinner or party for those people, or maybe some incentives or some bonus recognition. Use your leaders to create leverage. Get your team involved. Strategy #4 –Prizes or awards. Maybe you could benefit by not just selling tickets, but you could use a few as giveaways, or incentives or bonuses. Maybe you’ve got a leg that needs to be built up in order for you to move to the next level. You can tell the people in your organization that if they achieve XYZ, then you have give them a ticket as a reward, as incentive, as a contest in order to be able to provide an incentive for them to do the task that’s going to reward you not only short term but long term. Strategy #5 – Recognition. Recognize the people who register. Recognize the people who register early. Recognize the people who are on the leadership team. Recognize they’re stepping out and getting outside of their comfort zone. Recognize them on Facebook. Recognize them on email. Recognize them on conference calls. Recognize them however you want to recognize them, but recognition drives behavior, it really, really does. Strategy #6 – Create an Event Within the Event. For example, if you are promoting an event, let them know of a special acticity or party you have planned just for your team. Create a little get together before the event even starts to get them excited and focused. There are lunches, breakfasts, dinners, workouts, or anything you want to do inside of your team. Create some extra things. Strategy #7 - Repetition. Repetition being the idea that you can’t just announce this and you can’t just invite people, you have to promote, which means repeat it over and over and over and over and over again for people to realize that you’re serious about this. Strategy #8 – Host Hotels. Create a host hotel if your event isn’t located in a hotel. Use it as party central. Maybe throw a pool part the day before the event, or have a party in lounge, or appetizers or dinner. Engage in those activities as a team. Use the hotel to help create some excitement. Strategy #9 - No. 9. Corporate or Cross Line. Talk to people that maybe you have good relationship with that are cross line to you, and see if they want a little chunk of your tickets in order to bring part of their team. Also talk to Corporate and see if they want to use tickets as incentives or scholarships. And finally Strategy #10 – Create breakout sessions for your team after the event is over. This will really help your team absorb the materials that were presented and create strategy that everyone can implement so you all are rowing on the same team.
