How gay men used to speak - A short film in Polari

06:18
Polari was a form of slang used by gay men in Britain prior to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967, used primarily as a coded way for them to discuss their experiences. It quickly fell out of use in the 70s, although several words entered mainstream English and are still used today. Hypnotic Language For Salespeople

08:31
"My Closing Percentage Has Increased By 90%" -Vinnie Le Huray, Sales Professional, North Canterbury, Canterbury, New Zealand. See how he did it with the “Yes Decks! Hypnotic Influence Package” here: http://secured.hypnosistrainingacademy.com/hypnotic_language_for_salespeople In this video, Igor Ledochowski from the Hypnosis Training Academy explains how our unconscious minds affect our decision making. Hypnotic language can be used in a sales context to build rapport with your clients and develop better relationships that lead to more sales. As a sales person, you may be unaware of how using conversational hypnosis can make your more influential. Conversational hypnosis gives you a real advantage when you communicate with and understand your customers (or potential customers). It helps you create nearly instant rapport that will allow you to develop a level of trust with them that will also help you overcome many of their objections they have right off the bat. If you know that your product or service will make someone's life better, happier or easier, then it's your job as an ethical salesperson to communicate this value to your customer in the best way possible. Now of course, if your product doesn’t add value to someone's life, you shouldn't be trying to convince them to buy it through any sort of influence tactics. Because a sale is about an exchange of value. It's not about what’s in it for you, or about getting the sale at any cost. It's how you can best serve your customers. If you want to reach higher income levels, the best strategy is to add immense value to people through your products or services. So, if you sell a great product, and have a customer that you know will be helped by what you’re selling - then great! Conversational hypnosis will be your greatest ally to closing the sale ethically. The “Yes Decks! Hypnotic Influence Package” http://secured.hypnosistrainingacademy.com/hypnotic_language_for_salespeople is Igor’s conversational hypnosis based training program that has helped countless sales people ethically sell their products and services. The Yes Decks! are comprised of two decks (Volume 1 and Volume 2) of cards. Both decks come with 50 cards each... plus... Igor has included the special modifier cards for a total of 105 cards. These modifiers massively increase the potency of the cards. Each card contains special questions that allow you to pierce the mental barriers people put up... and... get them to accept your point of view. Once you learn how to use these questions - it's very easy when you follow the instructions. You’re going to especially love this program if…. You’re not into hard sell tactics. If you own or run a small, medium or large business... and... want more customers, sales and a sharp rise in bottom-line revenue. Or if you sell either to the mass consumer market, a niche market or you target the affluent and ultra-affluent market. (See a detailed breakdown of Igor Ledochowski’s “Yes Decks! Hypnotic Influence Package” on this page: http://secured.hypnosistrainingacademy.com/hypnotic_language_for_salespeople) Here are 3 testimonials from sales people that have used the power of the Yes Decks!: ** "My Closing Percentage Has Increased By 90%" ** "I am a Sale Professional. I had always been interested in the possibility of getting my customers to say yes every time and instantly buy however thought this just a fantasy and never possible. "I have been working with the yes deck for almost a year now with some pretty incredible results. My closing percentage has increased by 90%. "Not that I had a terrible one in the first place. I am on task for a record sales year which I solely give credit to the techniques I am using from the yes deck. "I would recommend this to anyone in sales as a must have." -Vinnie Le Huray Sales Professional, North Canterbury, Canterbury, New Zealand ** "A Great Tool For Anyone Looking To Improve Their Persuasive Power" ** "I've used the Yes Decks for 6 months now and I can say that they are a great tool for anyone looking to improve their persuasive power. I've used the language patterns and techniques I've learned to train people in all sorts of different jobs like sales, marketing, engineering, and more about how to become more persuasive." --Joe Homs, Hypnotist, Lake Forest, CA www.ochypno.com (Visit this page: http://secured.hypnosistrainingacademy.com/hypnotic_language_for_salespeople to hear from more sales and influence professionals and the positive results they’ve experienced from using the “Yes Decks! CLTV - The Pedagogies & Platforms Behind Virtual Exchange - 2/20/2014

01:00:47
http://connectedlearning.tv/pedagogies-platforms-behind-virtual-exchange Virtual exchange is more than a video conference call; it is a rich learning opportunity. Learn about the platforms and pedagogies behind these meaningful cross-cultural experiences for youth. **About The Speakers** * Charlotte Cole - Executive Director of the nonprofit Blue Butterfly Collaborative * Hannah Weitzer - Program Manager at Global Nomads Group * Gayle Hartigan - Computer Resource Specialist at Tallwood High School * Chris Dubia - Artist, educationalist, environmental activist and innovator * Katja Riikonen - Senior Officer of Training and Facilitation at Soliya **Key Questions/Comments** (06:16) We've found [virtual exchange] to be an incredibly enriching way to go beyond the walls of the classroom. Not all of our kids have a chance to travel abroad; but they can certainly travel through the wonderful technology that we have and meet with other students. (09:14) Could you comment on how you see virtual exchange as different than just having kids be on a video chat? (12:08) We fully encourage and appreciate if our students talk about the current political events or academic theories, but that should always be coupled with reflection and critical analysis of where those perspectives & views come from. (14:35) The conversations are so rich and so rewarding...these kinds of conversations prompt our kids to go the extra mile, to do a little extra research...I think it just promoted a whole different level of learning when they're being challenged by peers from another part of the world. (16:45) What do you think are some effective strategies for facilitating these kinds of virtual exchanges? (19:30) It's really important that the facilitator follows the group lead and lets them talk about what is relevant for that particular group, for those particular young people. (21:40) I'm wondering if any of you can comment on other core curricular areas you think can be supplemented or enhanced through virtual exchange? (24:45) A lot of [our work] has been around the idea of these global competencies and 21st-century skills...that, in terms of framing the conversation, provides a nice linkage to an area in the curriculum, which is often difficult to nail down. (28:46) What kind of training time is needed, and how much hands-on experience is needed to train student moderators? (31:12) Something else that we're working on is how do we prepare teachers to sit down with their students, one-on-one, and prepare them to facilitate...And being a phenomenal classroom teacher doesn't necessarily make you a phenomenal facilitator--they're very different skills--and vice-versa. (33:48) One really valuable component that we've been lucky to be able to do is reflecting afterward. And I think immediately afterward is good...I think we've learned a lot in those reflective meetings after the exchanges. (34:34) One of the questions we've had is this issue of language in virtual exchange, and how you've dealt with it when you're putting groups together that are speaking different languages? Are there different strategies for handling that? (35:57) We use consecutive translation: they listen to their language, then the other language, then they get the answer, then it's translated back...The students really learn patience and they learn to pick up on cues and other body language. (38:45) Opportunities for language learning exists within that space as well: informal language learning between students in classrooms. (42:35) A lot of the schools outside the U.S. that we work with see this as a really amazing opportunity to offer English as a second language: authentic learning experiences talking to native speakers. (45:58) [Virtual exchange] gives some students, who are not prone to speaking in public, a voice as well. It's another avenue to allow them to contribute. (47:31) American kids think, "Oh, well I can write a blog, I can write a letter to my Senator...but why should I care?" And seeing and interacting and developing a relationship with students in Afghanistan and seeing them not take for granted being a sophomore in high school makes them look at themselves differently. (50:14) The biggest success, regardless of the end product, is...breaking down the barriers and these preconceived notions about one another. (51:00) What do you think have been some of the best platforms you can use, and ways of engaging kids? Are there different strategies for that? (54:50) As amazing and powerful as the technology is, for me, that's still just a tool. It's what you do with that tool that can really be life-changing and impactful for different audiences around the world.

The Gift of Language Campaign

04:13
[Video description can be found below. If you use a screen reader and need to access the English caption file transcript, go to "More..." and click on "Transcript"] Your deaf child can have it all! The NAD along with many national organizations and universities are here to support deaf children in receiving this gift. We are excited to launch the.... THE GIFT OF LANGUAGE CAMPAIGN! That's right! We've got videos, a toolkit, infographics, and more resources for parents and families with a deaf child as well as community members. #giftoflanguage EXPLORE: www.nad.org/gift-of-language VIDEO DESCRIPTION AND TRANSCRIPT: Video opens with a starry text intro revealing white cursive text "THE GIFT OF LANGUAGE". Cut to floor view of toddlers and colorful shoes. Cut to over-the-shoulder shot of a child wearing a hearing aid looking on to an adult reading a book in front of the child. Cut to medium shot of a teacher working with a deaf child in a classroom while sitting on the floor. Cut to medium shot of four deaf children seated together at a table wearing kitchen chef hats, the teacher is cut out of frame and holding a bowl with a mixer. Cut to over-the-shoulder shot of an interpreter in a classroom as a deaf child looks on. Cut to close-up of a deaf child writing something on paper that is hung up. On-screen text in white appears: "YOUR DEAF CHILD CAN HAVE IT ALL!" White fade to over-the-shoulder shot of a deaf child sitting in a parent's lap while watching a teacher show something. On-screen text in white appears: "WHEN WE FIRST FOUND OUT..." Cut to parent interview clips. PARENT: In the very beginning, we kind of hit the internet. There was just so much information. So many different people telling us -- well, not telling us specifically -- but saying that you should do things this way, you should do things that way. PARENT: When she was around two and a half, she suddenly started acting differently. We assumed it was terrible twos or something like that. As clueless as we were that she wasn't paying attention, when it turned out she wasn't hearing... of course. PARENT: I have two kids, both of whom were first born hearing. When my son lost his hearing at 18 months, we identified this early on and he was given hearing aids. I got different message like should start with spoken English first -- and hold sign language off -- That was what the medical community’s opinion was. For me as a deaf person, I believe in giving both languages both speech services and sign languages in both social and school environments. PARENT: It was kind of a shock, it definitely was. And it was hard to think that he was going to be a normal child. But we definitely dove into educating ourselves about what that meant and what he was going to need and realized that it's just a different road that he was going to have to take to get to the same place to where he was going. PARENT: When our older daughter Emma was identified as being deaf, that was almost 11 years ago. And I remember it like it was yesterday. We were in this tiny little hot room, and it was after the testing was done and the audiologist came in and I saw she was holding a pamphlet that said, 'My child is deaf... now what?' She sat down and she talked to us, and basically didn't give us a whole lot of information. They gave us some printed information, but didn't even mention the school for the deaf in the area. PARENT: We would look at those things for examples, but when it came to the decision of what we wanted to do we felt like we really had to see what we felt was best for Aria. PARENT: I remember feeling almost angry because we would read on the internet that we'd have to decide whether we were going to get hearing aids and an implant - a cochlear implant - and go the oral route. Or we were going to choose ASL as our only and primary means of communication and go that route. I felt uncomfortable with -- that can't just be the way it is. I want my child to have everything she can, physically and developmentally. If she's able to access English and she has the motor skills for ASL and the mental and developmental abilities to learn ASL and English, I wanted her to have everything. I didn't want to have to choose. So, I'm finding that we don't have to choose. We can teach her both English and ASL, and she can be exposed to both at school and at home. And it's not a hindrance to her, it's helping her. Fade to black. On-screen white text appears: "YOUR DEAF CHILD CAN HAVE IT ALL". Fade to white. Gray soft background with black text appears: "WWW.NAD.ORG/GIFT-OF-LANGUAGE." Cut to several different font types showing "NAD" very quickly. Copyright video ends with the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) logo centered. Blue text below the logo appears, "The National Association of the Deaf / (copyright) 2018 All Rights Reserved / www.nad.org". After a few beats, a yellow highlight appears with the URL.

How Do You Approach Someone at a Networking Event?

04:58
http://www.homecaremarketing.net "Helping Service Providers Find Those in Need of Care" 848-444-9865 I love this dramatization! Tony does a great job of showing how marketers struggle to approach someone at a networking event. This is common and frustrating for many marketing professionals, especially if you’re the new kid on the block. Often times you’ll come across others at networking events who are so busy and engaged communicating with someone else, it’s difficult to jump in to the conversation. I know first-hand how frustrating this can be. Here’s what you can do to combat this issue: First – make your presence known to the group. Don’t interrupt or even listen in on their conversation at first; just make them aware that another person is waiting to speak with them. Second -- Use your mental clock and take note of how long they’re speaking. If longer than 5-7 minutes, it’s more than OK at a networking event to politely interject, excuse yourself and say a quick hello. This isn’t rude. In fact, many times this leads to them inviting you into the mix and sharing your own thoughts. Third – Move on! If you can’t get a word in after 5-7 minutes, leave those two people alone and look to speak with someone else. Now keep that 5-7 minute mental clock going and as your conversation is coming to an end, mention the other two people you were originally trying to connect with and ask if your current connection happens to know them. Chances are, that person already knows those people you. You can even take it one step further and ask for an introduction. This is all normal and acceptable behavior at a networking event. You’re there to make viable business connections. It’s not rude to try and have a conversation with someone who’s already speaking with another person. Just be considerate, give them their time and introduce yourself when the time is right. I like to think of it as being assertive, not aggressive. So there’s the tip of the week! Happy hunting and remember – don’t just beat your competition, blow them away!
Learning2gether with David Winet about the potential of Oculus Rift in language learning

01:05:01
David Winet has just written an article on his work the past two decades with StudyCom and English for Internet. In it he describes how he has pushed the envelope throughout that time finding new ways to adapt available cutting edge technologies to creating environments in which language learners would opt to learn, by doing and by communicating with one another and with native speakers; see: Winet, David. (2015). Reflections on StudyCom. TESL-EJ 19, 1 (1-18). Available: http://tesl-ej.org/pdf/ej73/int.pdf. Also (unpaginated) http://www.tesl-ej.org/wordpress/issues/volume-19/ej73/ej73int/.   On page 10, David discusses Oculus Rift as part of "A Peek into the Future" Virtual Reality headsets such as Oculus Rift will provide an even more 3-D realistic experience for students (James, 2014). Furthermore, pairing these with robots will allow “telepresence”. For example, imagine a student whose body is in Beijing walking around New York City with the aid of a robot there, who transmits a live picture of everything it sees in the Big Apple and turns when the student wearing the Oculus Rift turns, walks when the student walks, and of course speaks with English speakers the words uttered in China by the student (Sofge, 2015).   James, P. WEDDING & MARRIAGE Vocabulary in English

13:39
DING DONG! Do you hear those bells ringing? It's time for a lesson on wedding and marriage vocabulary! Do you know who the "maid of honor" is? What do you do at a "wedding shower"? And what is the meaning of the wedding rings? In this lesson, you will learn all this and more. To see if you are prepared for the big day, make sure to do the quiz and see if you've understood the lesson. Congratulations, and good luck! http://www.engvid.com/wedding-marriage-vocabulary/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. James from EngVid. We are gathered here today for this thing called "life". That's a line from Prince. And I have to apologize because one of you out there said that my song was not music from Star Wars, but from Mozart. My apologies. But I'm still using it because it sounds, you know, like something horrible is about to happen, and it is. I'm going to teach you a lesson on weddings. And depending on who you are, it's a good thing or a bad thing. But anyway, here we go. One of the things we're going to talk about -- we'll talk about the rituals of weddings, and I'm going to give you some vocabulary to go with that. And just to start off the show -- I don't know who this guy is, but anyway. He's saying, "Will you marry me" to this beautiful young girl. And she's saying, "Yes. I will. Is that a diamond ring" -- another word for "wedding band" -- "or Mr. E?" We'll find out. Let's talk about weddings. Okay? Well, before we go there, here's a little joke I'd like to put to you. There are two things you will be invited to. And both of them signal the death of something or the death of life. Okay? The first is a funeral. And I did a video on that earlier. Go find it. That's where my friend corrected me. And the second one is a wedding. It is the death of your single life. So what we're going to do is I'll do the magic click, take a step out, and then we're going to start the lesson. Are you ready? Let's go on our journey. "And dearly departed" -- sorry. Marriage. I keep forgetting because that death thing keeps coming to my mind. Anyway. So what we want to look at is -- I told you I would give you some vocabulary and explain a little bit, give you a little history. It's not too much, but it will help you to remember and understand why we do what we do. Ready? Let's go to be board. Mr. E is gone, but his presence will not be missed. Okay in fact, I'll put a little E here. We're going to talk about the engagement. Okay? There you go, Mr. E. He's not looking too happy about being in this particular situation. We say the wedding is a particular day, and it's true. In fact, there are special names for weddings when you're getting married. But before that we've -- I consider the wedding starting with the engagement because that's the first time you make a promise to join -- look at that. Engagement. You get a ring. Surprise, surprise. You get that engagement ring, and you say, "Will you marry me?" The person says yes. You put it on. Boom. You're fiancés. You've started the first step to getting married. A little thing about wedding rings. I'm not sure if you know about it, so I'll just take a good look at it. Do you know what this symbolizes? Well, boys and girls, in the old days, the wedding band -- that's another word for "wedding ring", the "wedding band" -- the wedding ring told other men that this woman was taken. So when the woman would put it on, other men would go, "Oh, no she's off the market." In other words, "You can't date her anymore because somebody else has bought the woman." Glad those days are over. Yeah? You just bought a diamond ring, son. It's not over. So engagement. It starts with a ring. And just before the wedding, people -- you know, these are old, kind of rituals or things we used to do. Young people would get together. They wouldn't have anything. They might have lived on a farm. So they needed to get things to start their new life together, and not everyone had a lot of money. We're talking of the times where people were kings and queens and princes. So the poor didn't have a lot. So when you would have a bridal shower or a stag night, well, the bridal shower was to get gifts to help the couple start their new life together. I mean, really, this is about 150 years old, but it's still long because you're young, son. Not like me. Okay. So the bridal shower, if you get invited to that, cha-ching! It's the beginning of what I call the "wedding money machine". You have to show up with a gift for the bride because she's starting a new life and you should pay for it. That's right. Unlike the bachelor party -- old guys call it "stag night" because stags have, you know, the big buck. It's sort of like a horror story -- deer. You know Bambi's mommy? Well, Bambi's daddy would be a stag. He would be big and strong. It would be your final night to be a big, strong man because now, you're about the get married. I love it. One ring shall control them all. Anyway.
A. R. Rahman, "Jiya Jale" (Dil Se): Berklee Indian Ensemble (Cover)

06:57
"Jiya Jale" (Dil Se) is a tribute to A. R. Rahman by the Berklee Indian Ensemble in gratitude for his immense contribution to our lives through his inspiring music and journey. A. R. Rahman is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and philanthropist. In 2009, Time Magazine placed Rahman in its list of World's Most Influential People. In a notable career spanning two decades, he has garnered particular acclaim for redefining contemporary Indian film music, and putting Indian music on the global map, in a way that no other Indian composer/performer has achieved. On October 24, 2014, Berklee College of Music will confer A. R. Rahman with an honorary doctor of music degree. Berklee Faculty and students from the Berklee Indian Ensemble will pay tribute to the living legend, who will join them on select pieces in a concert celebrating his music and life at Boston's Symphony Hall. Mr. Rahman's visit is a signature event under Berklee India Exchange, a new initiative co-founded by two Indian Berklee alums, Annette Philip (artistic director), and Clint Valladares (artist relations and strategy), as a platform for cultural conversation, through the composition, collaboration, and performance of original Indian music. Proceeds from the concert will go towards a scholarship fund in Mr. Rahman's name for students from India to attend Berklee. This is a huge milestone for the Berklee Indian Ensemble, one of largest and most diverse ensembles at the college, with members representing 37 countries, and counting. Founded in 2011 by faculty member, Annette Philip, the ensemble performs an expansive repertoire of Indian classical, semi-classical, folk, Sufi, and contemporary Indo-jazz music, with the ultimate goal of presenting concerts entirely consisting of original student compositions. Every year, there is at least one composition by A. R. Rahman featured in their repertoire. Berklee Indian Ensemble "Jiya Jale" (A. R. Roger Cohen ─ American Fracture: The End of the American Century and a Shared American Language

01:19:20
Here’s one voice from Trump country: "People have to choose between heating their homes, buying food or buying health care and you want them to worry about the survival of the planet or transgender stuff? I respect business and I distrust government. That’s the American way. I don’t want illegal immigrants taking our jobs. I don’t like liberals who shop at Whole Foods talking down their noses at me because I shop at Wal-Mart. White lives matter, too, you know. We lost our discipline and our moral code in this country. So we need honest Trump to shake things up." Honest Trump? Yes, there are now two definitions of truth in the United States. The first is that a truthful statement is one that conforms to facts. By that standard, President Trump is a serial liar. The second is that truth is “telling it like it is,” or speaking in a direct, unvarnished way without regard to political correctness. By this measure, for his supporters, Trump remains the most honest president ever. America needs the conversations it’s not having. In part it’s not having them because it’s difficult even to agree on language any longer. Signal and noise can no longer be distinguished. This is the chasm to which Fox News, herd-reinforcing social media algorithms, bots and trolls, Republican debunking of reason and science, the money of Koch and Mercer (and, yes, billionaire Democrats too), liberal self-obsession, rightist racism, and spreading technological autism have ushered us. The structures that helped preserve actual community, dignity and power among working-class people—labor unions—have been systematically eroded. Main Street, having given way to the shopping and strip mall, is dead in most places. Absent anything else, blue-collar whites decided to unify around whiteness, and Trump became their mouthpiece. Trump, in turn, stirring up division rather than trying to overcome it, choosing to lead the mob rather than his country, has taken a sledgehammer to America's values, to its responsibilities, and to the anchors of its prosperity in the post-war world. Dishonoring the United States, he has brought down the curtain on the American century. This event is co-sponsored by the CareerLAB

Learn to code in mql4 at https://learnmql4.com In this short video I explain how an indicator and an Expert advisor differ in the way that they are written and why your expert advisor is not the tool you need to use to display your indicator on the chart. I get many emails from folks wanting to combine the signal of the ea with the graphics of the indicator. Hopefully this video will help explain why this is not such a good idea. Trying to lay this out for you so that you understand what is going on was quite a challenge. I spent days getting this edited and put together in the right order. What it shows is why something that is quickly and easily coded in Mql4 takes MUCH more work and knowledge to accomplish in mql5. It shows that if Metaquotes would add some useful functions to their platform that it could be more readily accepted by those that have to code for it. As you watch this video don't skip ahead or you'll miss why things have to be done in a certain way. NOTE: There is a poll at the 52:30 mark please leave an answer. Tnx. Can You Mix Bitcoin With Financial Advice?

09:49
SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL! We love our subs! Lots of financial advisors are hesitant to even have the crypto currency conversation with their clients because the language is so foreign and the concept of profitless ventures is so far from their expertise in evaluating investment ideas. Some look at Bitcoin and its rival digital assets as though they're most similar to commodities, and as such, worth whatever the next person is willing to pay for them. Others see them as a medium of exchange and still others believe the entire thing is just a scam that will soon disappear. My own take is that the blockchain is more interesting than the price of a "coin" that may or may not serve as the compensation for those willing to build out the distributed ledger's infrastructure. My friend Tyrone Ross came by to share his views. Tyrone is a wealth manager at Noble Bridge Partners and had previously been a financial advisor at UBS. He's one of the only advisors in traditional wealth management who can actually speak intelligently on the subject, having been deeply involved with many of the players within crypto for many years. I also put him on the spot and asked him about his top Notorious B.I.G. joints. Hope this is interesting and helpful for you - Josh Follow Tyrone on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TR401 Follow us here: https://twitter.com/ritholtzwealth
