Foundations Can Help Schools Improve Results

03:14
Parks Middle School in Atlanta went from failing school to best in the district, making AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) under the federal No Child Left Behind law for the past three years in a row. The school principal and a representative of the Annie E. Casey Foundation talk about how the Foundation supported the schools efforts to improve results for kids and families at the school. Schools That Work: Voices From the Inside is a video podcast series commissioned by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. It features interviews with people on the ground in successful Casey-supported public schools that beat the odds to provide high quality education to low-income students. The Annie E. Casey Foundation has worked to build better futures for disadvantaged children and their families in the United States since 1948. Through its education investments, the Foundation helps ensure that young people graduate from school prepared to succeed as adults by supporting quality school choices and strong school/community/family connections. http://www.schoolsthatwork.org

Foundations & Frameworks - An Instructional Reading Program

02:33
Foundations & Frameworks is a uniquely designed research-based and research-supported instructional reading program developed at Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, Alabama. Since its introduction in 2001, an increasing number of schools have adopted and implemented the program and are witnessing student achievement gains in vocabulary, reading comprehension, critical thinking and written expression. There are over 135 public and private schools that use the program expanding to Canada, Kazakhstan, Lebanon and Uganda. Research has repeatedly confirmed that the most significant factor in a student’s academic achievement is the classroom teacher. www.FoundationsFrameworks.org
Why do you have schools and foundations? And why do you speak? | J. Krishnamurti

06:52
Brockwood Park 1980 - Question #1 from Question and Answer Meeting #1 'You have spoken so much against organisations, so why do you have schools and foundations? And why do you speak?' This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America. The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.' We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms. Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. Trumpet Foundations: The Embouchure for Trumpet and Getting Your First Sounds

11:08
FULL (free!) beginner trumpet course at http://www.blackwellstrumpetbasics.com/?page_id=1649&wlfrom=%2F%3Fpage_id%3D1609 “…these videos are amazing! They should be in every beginner brass classroom. I really appreciate your very logical step-wise approach…This sure is a better way than what we teach in public school where students buzz on a mouthpiece for months! Your approach is perfect and blowing through the mouthpiece and then adding the horn’s resistance is actually how brass playing works. This will help thousands of students, (and) make teachers re-evaluate how to teach brass.” – Jimmy K. High School Band Director for 33 years “I am a total beginner – and your method of blowing through the mouth piece and getting a buzz 100% worked – and made me feel a different style of getting a tone. D*mned if I didn’t start playing a low C and G effortlessly doing that. Before, I felt like I strained to transition to “G”. That whole method really opened up my eyes to how easy it should be to play those two notes. (I also) got a laugh out of my son when he was looking at me playing trumpet with a piece of paper on the pinky ring. However, it’s VERY effective in giving me feedback. My darn pinky LOVES to curl around that rest…” – Kevin H. 4-5 hours previous playing experience.

Baby Algebra | Arithmetic and Geometry Math Foundations 47 | N J Wildberger

09:16
Algebra starts with the natural and simple problem of trying to solve an equation containing an unknown number, or `variable'. Here we start with simple examples familiar to public school students. This video belongs to Wildberger's MathFoundations series, which sets out a coherent and logical framework for modern mathematics. The idea is to transform an equation with a variable into a simpler but equivalent equation, which can be more easily solved. We review examples of such manipulations--that go back to Hindu and Arab mathematicians. My research papers can be found at my Research Gate page, at https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Norman_Wildberger. I also have a blog at http://njwildberger.com/, where I will discuss lots of foundational issues, along with other things, and you can check out my webpages at http://web.maths.unsw.edu.au/~norman/. Of course if you want to support all these bold initiatives, become a Patron of this Channel at https://www.patreon.com/njwildberger?ty=h . Resume the Reece Committee Investigation of Tax Exempt Foundations

01:00:01
CARNEGIE CORPORATION BEHIND SCHOOL CHOICE/CHARTER SCHOOL AGENDA Congress must resume investigation of tax-exempt foundations including so-called conservative foundations Yesterday I came across a three-page document which proves that the present charter school movement is spearheaded by no less than Chicago Communist Bill Ayers' brother, John Ayers, who up until a few years ago was Vice President and Treasurer of The Carnegie Foundation the Advancement of Teaching in Stanford, California. http://abcsofdumbdown.blogspot.com/2014/06/carnegie-corporation-behind-school.html The government/corporations want their own education system and know that they must control all education in order to accomplish their lifelong global workforce training agenda. The reason they are going after public education is due to the fact that we still have elected local school boards, accountable directly to voters and parents. This is a major obstacle to their changing over our education system from an academic focus to a performance-based workforce training focus -- with full implementation of a womb-to-tomb system of control of all Americans... This time around the tax-exempt foundations to be investigated should include the neoconservative Trotskyite tax-exempt foundations, such as Heritage Foundation, Eagle Forum, Family Research Council, Freedom Works, Pioneer, Gates, etc., which all support tax-supported school "choice." http://abcsofdumbdown.blogspot.com/2014/06/resume-1953-1954-reece-committee.html Download the full report of the Reece Committee Hearings http://deliberatedumbingdown.com/pages/pdf_downloads.html
