How Does Exchange ActiveSync Work? Like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

02:52
How does Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) work? It’s a combination of both a transport protocol and a device management protocol – but Paul Robichaux, Exchange Server MVP, would say think of it like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Watch this short video to understand how EAS works behind the scenes and how the auto-discover protocol, complementary to EAS, is integral to the process. This video is part of a series of videos discussing EAS topics with Paul Robichaux. As users go mobile, a wave of new challenges arise for Exchange and mobile admins. EAS is widely used for synchronizing mobile device calendars, contacts and email, but its many moving parts create a plethora of problems. Understanding these problems and challenges will help you mitigate their impact on mobile performance for end-users.

When you add the outlook.com account to Outlook 2013, on the first screen make sure you select “Manual setup or additional server types”. On the next screen, choose “POP or IMAP” and enter the following Outlook.com mail server settings in the Server Information fields: Account type: POP3 Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.live.com Logon Information: User Name: your @outlook.com email address Password: your @outlook.com password Outlook.com Mail Server Settings Outlook.com is designed by Microsoft as an alternative to Google Gmail. And – just like Gmail – you can configure your favorite email client to send & receive emails through your outlook.com email account. To do so, you need to know the Outlook.com mail server settings. Basically, you can add your outlook.com account to any email client that supports POP3 or IMAP, like Microsoft Outlook Professional, Windows Mail, Android or iOS mail apps, etc. Depending on your email client application, you can add & configure your outlook.com email account as a POP3 account or as an ActiveSync / Exchange service. Later edit (13.09.2013): Microsoft added support for the Outlook.com IMAP email protocol, from 12th of September 2013. We will explain below how to add your outlook.com email account to Outlook 2013 – the mail server settings are the same for all email client applications, as long as they support the related email protocol (for example, ActiveSync is supported mainly by Microsoft products like Outlook 2013). Outlook.com POP Mail Server Settings When you add the outlook.com account to Outlook 2013, on the first screen make sure you select “Manual setup or additional server types”. On the next screen, choose “POP or IMAP” and enter the following Outlook.com mail server settings in the Server Information fields: Account type: POP3 Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.live.com Logon Information: User Name: your @outlook.com email address Password: your @outlook.com password outlook.com mail server settings Then click on the “More Settings” button: Outgoing Server tab: mark the box “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” and select “use same settings as my incoming mail server”. Advanced tab – Server Port Numbers: Incoming server (POP3): port 995 – you must also mark the box “this server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)” Outgoing server (SMTP): port 587 – you must also choose “TLS” for the option “Use the following types of encrypted connection”.

How to Configure Outlook to connect to Microsoft (Live, MSN, Hotmail, Outlook.com) email account

04:38
Configure Live, Msn, Outlook.com or Hotmail com Account With Microsoft Outlook In this video we wlill learn how to configure your microsoft mail account in outlook 2013. Microsoft has announced to migrate all its outlook.com mailboxes to the office 365 Exchange Online Mail Servers, which made it very easy for us to configure your microsoft mail account with Outlook 2013. You may have one of the following mail accounts of microsoft, @live.com @outlook.com @msn.com @hotmail.com. You no longer need the Outlook Connector Add In or to mannuly configure IMAP/POP3 settings. Well Its very easy and within a minute, you will be able to access your mails by configuring your microsoft mail account. So follow this simple steps. Launch the outlook. On the welcome wizard screen click on next. Its asking "Do you want to set up outloook to connect to an email account?". Make sure its checked as yes and click on next. Under the Email Account section fill in the details. Type in your name in the name field. In the address box, provide your mail id and then password following by re-typing it. Click on next. The windows security pop up will ask you to provide your password. So enter your mail account password and click on OK. Once it shows the window saying "Congratulations! Your email account was successfully configured and is ready to use", our mission is successfull. For the final step just click on Finish. Click on OK if it says "You must restart outlook for these changes take effect." You are all set up with your outlook.com account. Thats pretty easy compared to the previous tedious and time taking method. Now if you have other than outlook.com account. Like from among these three domains. @live.com @msn.com or @hotmail.com? Its again pretty easy and method is same for all these three domain accounts. Open the outlook and this time instead of filling the information under "Email Account" section, select the other option "Manual Setup or additional server types" and click on Next. On the next screen select the second option which says "outlook.com or exchange ActiveSync compatible service" and click on next. Here provide your information. Type in your Name in the Name field. Then your email address. Under the server information fill the Mail Server field with "m.hotmail.com". This field shold be same for any of these three kind of mail accounts ([email protected], [email protected] or [email protected]) Under the logon information type the password for your account and click on Next. if The "Test Account Settings" shows the task "Log onto Exchange ActiveSync mail Server" as completed, then you have succesfully completed the mission. Close the window and then clik on Finish. There You go your mail box is ready to be use and you can now receive your important mails.

07. Adding An IMAP Exchange Or POP Account Automatically [Tutorial Outlook 2013]

01:56
You can use Outlook as a standalone client for your home and personal use or your office may use it internally as their default email program. That's what we're going to talk about today. If your company uses Microsoft Exchange, you can simply put in your email address and Outlook will do the rest of the configuration for you. We start by going up here to the Ribbon and choosing File and then Add Account. It's important to note that as of Outlook 2013, Exchange 2003 is not supported. So if you find yourself having trouble with this next step, it maybe worth asking your network administrator what version of Exchange you're trying to connect to. So from this dialog box, we need to put in our Name, Email Address and Password and while we are done, click Next. You'll get a Security Alert talking about security certificates. If it asks you if you want to proceed, click Yes. From here, it's going to make sure it can access your server, it's going to make sure your Password was correct, and then it's going to make sure you can log on to the mail server.

Description The open source Nylas Sync Engine provides a RESTful API on top of a powerful email sync platform, making it easy to build messaging into apps. It’s built using Python and gevent and has scaled to sync billions of messages over its lifetime deployment. In this talk, we’ll show you how it’s built and what technical challenges we’ve solved along the way. Abstract Why a sync engine? If you’ve ever tried to build anything that works with email, you’ll find that it’s a problem full of twisty corners: the protocols themselves are obtuse and require entire RFCs just to describe how to implement sync with them, if you want your integration to work with everyone’s email you face implementing several different protocols or flavours of protocols (IMAP with CONDSTORE, IMAP with no CONDSTORE, Gmail IMAP, Exchange Web Services, Exchange ActiveSync, Office365 REST) plus OAuth authentication for different providers, and once you’ve gotten data flowing you still need to handle parsing email, which involves a complex format known as MIME as well as pretty much every way of encoding non-ASCII text as ASCII that has ever been invented. We’ve built a platform that layers a sync engine over 30 years of email history and allows developers to read and write to mailboxes and calendars using a modern REST API. It’s not just a simple proxy that makes calls to IMAP or Exchange behind the scenes: in order to meet the speed and reliability demands our customers require, when a user connects their email account to a developer’s app, our infrastructure syncs a copy of that mailbox and keeps it up-to-date as changes are made from that app or traditional web, mobile, and desktop email clients. This is a demanding technical challenge and wasn’t easy to build. How a sync engine? A semi-monolithic application composed of several services that all share a common database and a fair amount of code, but run on separate server fleets (email sync, api frontend, webhooks, etc.) ~90k lines of Python, including tests and migrations Bio Christine went to MIT, dropped out of an operating systems graduate program to be an early engineer at Ksplice, and most recently cofounded Nylas, a startup building an email platform. When she's not building rock-solid infrastructure for the Internet or speaking around the world at conferences like DebConf and PyCon, rumour has it she can be found on cliff walls, remote trails, and dance floors. She lives in Oakland, California. https://speakerdeck.com/pybay/2017-christine-spang-billions-of-emails-nylas
