Concern at Hong Kong electronics fair about US-China trade war

02:12
(13 Apr 2018) Chinese electronics manufacturers were out in force on Friday at a Hong Kong trade fair that attracted thousands of Western buyers, even as tariff threats from President Donald Trump overshadowed trade relations with the US. Trump has threatened to slap 50 billion US dollars worth of tariffs on Chinese imports including flat screen TVs, leading Beijing to retaliate by warning it would impose its own import duties on American goods such as soybeans and small aircraft. The latest twist came on Thursday when Trump asked his trade officials to explore the possibility of the US rejoining the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, a free trade deal he pulled out of during his first days in office. Speaking on Friday at the Hong Kong trade fair, Jonathan Liu, CEO of educational robot maker Gomer, said that if the trade dispute escalated, he would have to find ways to avoid passing on higher costs. The tensions have sparked worries that the world's two biggest economies are heading for an all-out trade war, although companies displaying their wares at the trade fair were optimistic that they wouldn't be affected. Most of them were pitching products that weren't covered by the US Trade Representative's list of 1,300 product categories. Steve Goh, an engineer at Global Camera Manufacturer Corp., said his company was based in Taiwan but had a joint venture factory in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. He said there weren't many companies like his that made camera-microscopes, so ultimately it would be consumers that would suffer. Kelly Chen, a sales manager at drone maker Shenzhen Cynova Technology, said the company was  a little nervous about Trump's threats. 5 Mistakes New Importers Make When Importing Products from China

13:39
Discover the 5 mistakes new importers make when they are importing products from China. Don’t make the same mistakes! Get our free ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step Freightos: http://wholesaleted.com/go/freightos First mistake importers make when importing products from China: Assuming that shipping by sea will be the cheapest option A lot of new importers think they will save money if they ship by sea rather than air. On the surface it seems cheaper as importers usually pay around 60 cents/KG when shipping via sea, compared to the $7/KG when shipping by air courier. Unfortunately what they don’t realize is that the reason it’s that cheap is because when shipping via sea, you ship via container, and you need to rent an entire container. They are very large and require you to be shipping hundreds of KGs to be making it worth your time. If you are an Amazon private label seller, you are unlikely to have enough stock being shipped to fill a container by at least 60-70% so it will be cheaper to ship by air. When shipping by air, you have two options: 1) Air freight 2) Air courier Air courier is when you have your items shipped door-to-door. It is the easiest but the most expensive per KG (although in smaller quantities it is cheaper). Air freight is when you have your items flown from one airport to the other. You will need to organize other additional services: * Having the items delivered to the airport * A customs broker * Having the items delivered from the airport to the final location. There are a lot of fixed fees with this which means it becomes cheaper to use air freight with larger quantities. To figure out which option will be cheaper for you, I recommend using Freightos. Second mistake importers make when importing products from China: Not using the Metric system In China, they use the Metric system and not the Imperial system. So be sure to use KGs instead of lbs and CM instead of inches. It’s important to remember that when working with Chinese suppliers that they expect you to work on their terms and their timeframes. It can be frustrating, but it’s worth it for the cheap Chinese products you import! Third mistake importers make when importing products from China: Using Less than Container Load for shipping When shipping by sea, you have two options: 1) FCL which stands for Full Container Load 2) LCL which stands for Less than Container Load Inexperienced importers fall for the trap of shipping with LCL because they see that the price are extremely cheap. What they don’t realize is that these LCL companies have special deals with the ports to charge you extremely high Destination Service Charges. The LCL companies then make their money in the form of a “rebate” which is essentially commissions/kickbacks. Destination Service Charges are usually priced per-container and cost between $500-$1000 per container for ports in the USA. But when shipping by LCL you end up paying a high fee per cubic meters. It means that you often end up paying a fee comparable to shipping an entire container. Don’t fall for this trap: If you can’t break even with FCL, then ship by air. Fourth mistake importers make when importing products from China: not calculating the correct duties you will need to pay When you import products from China, you will need to pay duties at the border. If you don’t calculate the correct rate you can get a shock if it comes back as more than you expected. Duties can be a bit complicated to work out because there are a lot of variables. For example, if you imported woolen jackets, you need to consider which country the wool came from, as some countries (like Israel) have duty-free agreements over wool, which would reduce the duties you had to pay. On the other hand if synthetic fibres were used instead of pure wool, then your duty rates would be higher since there are higher duties applied to synthetic fibres within the USA. To figure out what your duty rate is, find out what the HTS (Harmonized Tax System) code is for your item. To find this, ask your Chinese supplier as they will most likely know. You can then go through the HTS manual and find what the duty rate is for the HTS code of your products. Fifth mistake importers make when importing products from China: being afraid to make mistakes And finally - don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Through making mistakes you learn how to overcome them the next time and make even more money. Mistakes are apart of entrepreneurship. Learn from others - and learn from your own as well!

Future Cities, a full-length documentary strand from WIRED Video, takes us inside the bustling Chinese city of Shenzhen. China raises tariffs in response to U.S. measures

26:01
China and the U.S. had their 11th round of trade talks over the weekend. The Chinese top negotiator Liu He led the team to Washington. But that did little to stop a new round of tariff hikes. U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25-percent tariff on some 6,000 Chinese products, from textiles to electronics. And China has announced to increase tariffs on the bulk of 60-billion-U.S.-dollar worth of U.S. goods to three categories of rates between 10 percent and 25 percent starting June 1. Analysts say the tariff is a blow to chances of a breakthrough.#china#us#trade Subscribe to us on YouTube: https://goo.gl/lP12gA Download our APP on Apple Store (iOS): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cctvnews-app/id922456579?l=zh&ls=1&mt=8 Download our APP on Google Play (Android): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imib.cctv Follow us on: Website: https://www.cgtn.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ChinaGlobalTVNetwork/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cgtn/?hl=zh-cn Twitter: https://twitter.com/CGTNOfficial Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/CGTNOfficial/ Tumblr: http://cctvnews.tumblr.com/ Weibo: http://weibo.com/cctvnewsbeijing Tiktok: https://m.tiktok.com/h5/share/usr/6593878228716666886.html?u_code=d1kab7mki4ai6e&utm_campaign=client_share&app=musically&utm_medium=ios&user_id=6593878228716666886&tt_from=copy&utm_source=copy Douyin: https://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=http%3A%2F%2Fv.douyin.com%2F8QTXhV%2F&redir_token=WkBScl40kZbx7ZwJ9M7QhhTjErx8MTU0NTcyMTg3N0AxNTQ1NjM1NDc3&event=channel_description

The first Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) in Africa was launched Wednesday in Kigali, opening

29:50
The first Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) in Africa was launched Wednesday in Kigali, opening doors for small businesses in Africa to take part in cross-border electronic trade. The platform is a result of a partnership between the Government of Rwanda and Alibaba Group. During the launch held yesterday, Rwanda and Alibaba Group signed three agreements to facilitate electronic trade in Rwanda and the rest of Africa President Paul Kagame officiated at the landmark ceremony which was attended by the Alibaba Group founder and Executive Chairman Jack Ma. The agreements signed in Kigali are intended to strengthen cooperation in support of Rwanda’s economic development by promoting policy innovation, enabling cross-border trade of Rwandan products to Chinese consumers, facilitating tourism to Rwanda, and providing capacity building to empower the growth of Rwanda’s digital economy. After the signing of the agreements, Ma described the event as a “historic day” because the initiative will revolutionise how Rwandans do business, starting from how they sell their top-notch coffee or handcrafts to how they sell their tourism services to the world, including China.

Yiwu, China - Pros & Cons Of The World Biggest Trading Market

07:42
When I first came to Yiwu before, I thought it was awesome. Many small stalls, a mix of factories and trading companies. There were ALL types of products that you can find and source here. What's even better is that you can do sample order of a few hundred units at factory prices to test your products. However, on my second run I saw the downside of Yiwu. I was looking for a very particular beauty product that I could white label and improve upon. And in my search, I discovered that Yiwu, for all intents and purposes, is a commodities market. You can find a lot of general or popular items here but you do have to look. It's like fleemarket, the more you search and ask, the more likely you'll find something interesting. So... here is my advice to you. If you are looking for a specific niche product to add to your brand, start with Alibaba. However, if you don't know what you want exactly and are open to ideas, Yiwu is the place to search through to find your golden nugget. 0:37 I’ll tell you what I think about Yiwu Market 1:38 Given a choice between Yiwu and Alibaba I’ll still go with alibaba and I will tell you why. 2:07 Comparing Yiwu’s and Alibaba’s advantages and disadvantages 5:32 All in all it’s definitely worth visiting Yiwu Don't forget to submit any QUESTIONS or COMMENTS down below, give this a THUMBS UP if you found this useful so others can find it, and SUBSCRIBE to be notified when new Amazon videos are released. Forex and Taiex tumble on impasse in US-China trade talks

01:42
The New Taiwan dollar tumbled to a seven-month low today, after trade talks between U.S. and China ended with higher tariffs and no deal. Over on the stock exchange, the Taiex closed lower as well, led by Apple suppliers like TSMC and Hon Hai. So far smartphones like Apple''s iPhone have been spared by Washington''s tariffs, but they may not be able to escape impact for long. If handsets are hit, each iPhone would cost nearly $5,000 NT more. Nearly all iPhones are assembled in China, and their fate is hanging in the balance. Tariffs could raise the cost of an iPhone by nearly NT$5,000.Fears over the renewed trade war rippled through Apple concept stocks today, sending the Taiwan market closing down 1.44% at 10,558 points. The New Taiwan dollar sank against the greenback to end at NT$31.082, the weakest level in seven months. The Executive Yuan is calling on China-based Taiwanese businesses to bring home their manufacturing.Chang Min-pinInvestment officialWe''ve been getting a lot more related inquiries from Taiwanese companies. The number has doubled at least. Now we need to bring in five or six colleagues from other office divisions to help us handle the inquiries.According to official data, electronics companies are leading the exodus of capital back to Taiwan. They are followed by businesses in the metal and mechanical industries and in the textile industry.

Electronics could benefit from U.S-China trade tensions

01:17
The U.S. has invited China to resume trade talks this month, but President Donald Trump said in a cabinet meeting that he insists to proceed with tariffs plan on Chinese goods unless China gives into his demands, including the stop to what he claims intellectual theft on U.S. technology. Abacus Capital Director Manny Ocampo says this uncertainty can benefit some Philippine industries like electronics.

Stocks down over Huawei, US-China trade fears

02:12
(10 Dec 2018) Asian markets were broadly lower on Monday after China protested the arrest of a senior executive of Chinese electronics giant Huawei, who is suspected of trying to evade US trade curbs on Iran. Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 1.4 percent to 25,696.89 and the Shanghai Composite was 0.8 percent lower at 2,583.90. China has slammed the detention of Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou as "extremely egregious" and demanded that the US cancel an order for her arrest, the official Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday. Stock analyst Jackson Wong said investors are worried that Meng's arrest could jeopardize the recent truce between China and the US.   The two countries agreed to hold off on imposing further tariffs for 90 days while they attempt to resolve a range of issues from trade to technology development. Wong said some are concerned that "the situation might worsen" and trade talks may stall. Meng, who is suspected of attempting to evade US sanctions on Iran, was arrested in Canada on December 1. China Vows to 'Fight to the Finish' in Escalating Trade War Against the U.S.

00:41
U.S. officials listed $300 billion more of Chinese goods for possible tariff hikes while Beijing vowed Tuesday to “fight to the finish” in an escalating trade battle that is fueling fears about damage to global economic growth. The U.S. Trade Representative’s Office issued its target list after Beijing announced tariff hikes Monday on $60 billion of American goods in their spiraling dispute over Chinese technology ambitions and other irritants. Chinese authorities were reacting to President Donald Trump’s surprise decision last week to impose punitive duties on $200 billion of imports from China. “China will fight to the finish,” said a foreign ministry spokesman, Geng Shuang. “We have the determination and capacity to safeguard our interests,” Geng said. “China’s countermeasures have shown our determination to safeguard the multilateral trade system.” Trump downplayed the standoff that sent global markets plummeting to start the week, calling it “a little squabble” between friends. The latest U.S. list of 3,805 product categories is a step toward carrying out Trump’s May 5 threat to extend punitive 25% duties to all Chinese imports, the USTR said. It said a June 17 hearing would be held before Washington decides how to proceed. The list “covers essentially all products” not already affected by punitive tariffs, the USTR said. It includes laptop computers, saw blades, turbine parts, tuna and garlic. The USTR noted it excludes pharmaceuticals and rare earths minerals used in electronics and batteries. “The risk of further escalation is far from over,” said Timme Spakman of ING in a report. Also Tuesday, China’s tightly controlled social media were filled with comments lambasting Washington following weeks of little online discussion of the dispute. That suggested official censors might have blocked earlier comments but started allowing those that favor Beijing to deflect potential criticism of President Xi Jinping’s government. The United States is “sucking the blood of the Chinese,” said a comment left on the “Strong Country” blog of the ruling Communist Party’s newspaper People’s Daily. Another comment on the site said, “Why are Chinese people bullied? Because our hearts are too soft!” Trump started raising tariffs last July over complaints China steals or pressures foreign companies to hand over technology and unfairly subsidizes businesses Beijing is trying to build into global leaders in robotics and other fields. A stumbling block has been U.S. insistence on an enforcement mechanism with penalties to ensure Beijing carries out its commitments. Odds of a settlement “remain high,” said Mark Zandi of Moody’s Analytics in a report. “But suddenly a number of other scenarios seem possible, even one in which the U.S., China and the global economy suffer a recession.” Asian stock markets fell Tuesday as the fight, with no negotiated settlement in sight, though markets in the U.S. and Europe recovered some, but not all of the losses Monday, when the Dow plunged more than 600 points. That came after China’s Finance Ministry announced duties of 5% to 25% on about 5,200 American products, including batteries, spinach and coffee. On Tuesday, Trump said the U.S. has been treated unfairly by China “for many, many decades” and said that he believes things will “turn out extremely well” because, “We’re in a very strong position.” As for who is winning the dispute, Trump told reporters as he left for a trip to Louisiana that, “We always win.” The last round of negotiations ended Friday in Washington with no word of progress. Both governments indicated more talks are likely but set no date. Trump said Monday he would meet Xi during the Group of 20 meeting of major economies six weeks from now on June 28 and 29 in Osaka, Japan. US and China may be close to outlining a trade deal

03:15
Yahoo Finance Editor-in-Chief Andy Serwer discusses the details of the trade negotiations between the United States and China. The United States and China have started to outline commitments in principle on the stickiest issues in their trade dispute, marking the most significant progress yet toward ending a seven-month trade war, according to sources familiar with the negotiations. The world's two largest economies have slapped tit-for-tat tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of goods, slowing global economic growth, skewing supply chains and disrupting manufacturing. As officials hold high level talks on Thursday and Friday in Washington, they remain far apart on demands made by U.S. President Donald Trump's administration for structural changes to China's economy. But the broad outline of what could make up a deal is beginning to emerge from the talks, the sources said, as the two sides push for an agreement by March 1. That marks the end of a 90-day truce that Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to when they met in Argentina late last year. Negotiators are drawing up six memorandums of understanding on structural issues: forced technology transfer and cyber theft, intellectual property rights, services, currency, agriculture and non-tariff barriers to trade, according to two sources familiar with the progress of the talks. At meetings between U.S. and Chinese officials last week in Beijing the two sides traded texts and worked on outlining obligations on paper, according to one of the sources. The process has become a real trade negotiation, the source said, so much so that at the end of the week the participants considered staying in Beijing to keep working. Instead they agreed to take a few days off and reconvene in Washington. The sources requested anonymity to speak candidly about the talks. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-u-china-sketch-outlines-024419838.html Subscribe to Yahoo Finance: https://yhoo.it/2fGu5Bb About Yahoo Finance: At Yahoo Finance, you get free stock quotes, up-to-date news, portfolio management resources, international market data, social interaction and mortgage rates that help you manage your financial life.
