Private Equity: Industry Overview and Careers in Private Equity

03:39
The Private Equity industry as we know it today is significantly larger compared to what it used to be 20 years ago. Nowadays pension funds, investment banks and high-net-worth individuals invest their money in private equity funds. The main idea is to use the money in order to acquire private or public companies, develop and improve their business, and then resell it at a considerable profit, given that the typical investment horizon ranges between 5 and 10 years. Private equity investments are risky, very illiquid and investors expect a significantly higher return compared to some of the other asset classes. Private Equity is one of the most desired career paths in the world of Business and Finance. Several years ago very few, if any, of the PE funds were hiring without relevant work experience. Today, it appears that more funds are willing to hire people with less experience. It is not rare to see intern and analyst openings within PE funds. However, if you’ve worked a couple of years in investment banking, consulting, or financial advisory, your chances of being hired increase significantly. Salaries vary based on the firm size and the country that you are located in, but they are generally 10-20% higher than the ones of investment banker analysts and associates with the same number of years of experience. 19. Investment Banks

01:11:19
Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) Professor Shiller characterizes investment banking by contrasting it to consulting, commercial banking, and securities trading. Then, in order to see the essence of investment banking, he reviews some of the principles that John Whitehead, the former chairman of Goldman Sachs, has formulated. These principles are the basis for a discussion of the substantial power that investment bankers have, and their role in society. Government regulation of these powerful investment banks has been a thorny issue for many years, and especially so now since they played a significant role in world financial crisis of the 2000s. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Consulting: Industry Overview and Careers in Consulting

03:33
Consultants are hired by companies in order to help them resolve a specific issue that they are facing. The fact that they bring specialist skills, a set of heterogeneous experiences and an objective outside view is what makes their services so popular. Management consulting is the practice of helping firms improve their performance through corrections in their organizational structure, strategy, marketing and so on. Operational consulting on the other hand is about tangible fixes that need to be made in the company’s operations and technology. Often in these situations, consultants’ fees depend on the amount of operational efficiencies that they will be able to achieve. Financial consulting is about the way companies spend cash, the efficient use of capital throughout the whole value chain, cash management, financing of specific projects like Mergers & Acquisitions or organic expansion. Behavioural Biases in Investment Decisions_An Introduction to the course_ABANWILL Consultants

Transcript *What? Real Estate? My father has suffered capital losses in most of his real estate investments. That is why, when we were planning to buy a house in Pune, he preferred staying out of the selection process. So I was on my own. When I selected a property, I asked for approval of 2 of my uncles. They approved and we bought the house.  Today, 5 years later, I work in Mumbai. Home Loan EMI, Education Loan EMI and my rent – that is a hell lot of fixed expenditure that we incur. So we thought of selling the house. And we found out that it hadn’t appreciated even at 3% per annum. Considering the interest that we have already paid on the loan, we were going to sell the house at a capital loss, again. My father was not willing to do that. He said, “Vineet, I have always sold my houses in distress and earned less than even the capital, I cannot sell at a loss again. Our finances are tight but this is not a distress situation. So hold on”. I am holding on. Because I think, if not today, maybe a decade later, my house will see great appreciation. Now as you see, on the face of it, I made an investment mistake. But I was all of 18 years old when I selected the house. I was looking for expert advice from my uncles. This is confirmation bias – looking for approval from those who think like us and are likely to say yes  My father’s decision of not selling a house in Pune is based upon the losses he incurred in other real investments made in other towns. This looks like a Hindsight bias that my father is harbouring. Under usual circumstances, I convince my father of what I want – he bought the house that I had selected. But I couldn’t convince him to sell, maybe because I, myself was not convinced. I am now hoping that the property will see value appreciation in the years to come. Maybe this is my undue belief in eventual turnarounds. Sooner or later, I have realized that biases are always at play while making an investment decision and, therefore, affect your financial well-being. It is recommended that you seek an advisor’s help. But remember, that your advisor may also exhibit some biases. What should you be mindful of? We, at ABANWILL Consultants have developed a course that delves into YOUR biases and introduces you to some investor biases in order to ensure that you make better financial decisions. John Heins & Whitney Tilson: "The Art of Value Investing" | Talks at Google

01:19:04
“John Heins and Whitney Tilson, co-founders of the Value Investor Insight newsletter, have done a thorough job of explaining how to look for stocks that are trading at significant discounts to what they are worth — the concept known as the value style of investing.…the authors present a clear framework for ferreting out undervalued companies.” —The New York Times About the book: In The Art of Value Investing, John Heins and Whitney Tilson offer a comprehensive set of answers to the questions that everyone investing seriously in the stock market should have thought through clearly before committing his or her hard-earned capital to the endeavor. What market efficiencies will I try to exploit? What analytical edge can I hope to have? How specifically will I decide to buy or sell? For answers, they call on market-beating money managers – including such investing luminaries as Seth Klarman, David Einhorn, Bill Ackman, Howard Marks, Mason Hawkins and Julian Robertson – who have graced the pages over the past ten years of their highly regarded newsletter, Value Investor Insight. Seed Funding for Startups: How to raise venture capital as an entrepreneur

11:12
Raising money is hard. It's so hard most companies fail at it. In this video, we'll look into traction requirements, pitch decks, alternative funding sources and on how to find investors. This is seed funding for entrepreneurs. I'm the CEO of a company called Slidebean, and thousands of startups have used our platform to create their pitch decks. Their success is our success, and this is why we get involved with them and have learned a thing or to about what works, and what doesn't. I started my first company in 2011, and I failed at raising capital. I know the pain of shutting down a website you spent countless hours on, and having to email all your customers to say it's game over. The problem with my first company is that we spent too much time trying to find investors, hence we failed to notice some of the fundamental flaws in our product. For Slidebean, we raised a seed round of $800,000 which has allowed us to grow to a team of 25, increase our revenue to seven digits and become profitable in the process. And yeah, it was hard. I'm telling you this because I want you to trust my advice. I tried and failed, and I can look back and see why I got a 'NO' from most of the 142 investors I pitched. Yeah, 142 to raise $800,000. So let's talk about traction, first. I have this problem with startup press (but we love YOU, @jordanrcrook). It gives new founders a false notion of how fundraising works. You read the story of Yo, an app that just sent notifications saying 'Yo' and how they raised a $1,000,000 seed round, and you assume that's something anyone with a couple of lines of code can do. Most companies raise money AFTER getting traction. Very few companies raise money with just a prototype and no users, and certainly, NO company raises money without a fully formed founding team. The most extreme case here is tech companies that are trying to raise money to hire a CTO. This makes no sense. Tech talent is expensive, and it's scarce, and the first proof that your company is worth something is that you managed to find a full stack developer that would turn down a job at Google to work on this idea. As a CEO, you need to be able to find and convince that guy, who joins your company for the stock and not for the salary; when he could be making $150,000/yr otherwise. The reality of startup fundraising today, at least in Silicon Valley and New York, is that companies are pitching investors with traction, excellent traction. Traction usually comes in the form of revenue: tens of thousands of dollars per month, growing over +20% month-over-month. I'm not making this up, check this article by VC Elizabeth Yin. Pure play, no-revenue traction counts only when you are dealing with millions of users and fantastic retention rates. So how can you get to these numbers venture capitalists expect, if you don't have any money to start with? Yeah well, bootstrapping. We bought our domain in 2013 and started working on our product, but it was only after 18 months that we managed to get any decent money to ramp up growth. It was $100,000 from the 500 Startups program, but we'll talk about accelerators in a minute. From May 2013 through October 2014 we bootstrapped. We did part-time consulting so we could pay our bills. We had a $1,000 salary each, and we shared an apartment. It was barely enough, but the backgrounds of the three founders made up for all the talent we needed: no need to hire anyone. Our company burn rate was probably $3,500 including our 'salaries' and the services we needed. It sucked; but if you can live on a budget and put up with your co-founders while having no idea what's going to happen, you've passed a very tough test. -- Links we referred to: Check out this one for more info on how to get into an accelerator: https://slidebean.com/blog/startups/accelerator-application-500-startups?utm_source=youtube.com&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=video-content&utm_term=seed-funding Download our Pitch Deck template: https://slidebean.com/business-presentation-templates/?utm_source=youtube.com&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=video-content&utm_term=seed-funding To Download our Managing Investors spreadsheet template sign up to FounderHub here: https://founderhub.io/?utm_source=youtube.com&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=video-content&utm_term=seed-funding Elizabeth Yin Article: https://elizabethyin.com/2018/10/18/should-you-raise-money-or-bootstrap/ ► Subscribe to our Channel Here http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=slidebean -- About Us: Slidebean is a pitch deck creation tool with hundreds of templates available to use as a starting point. How To Invest in 2019 (How ANYONE can be RICH)

16:55
Here’s a step by step guide of How to Invest in 2019 and the basic strategies to begin investing and growing your wealth - enjoy! Add me on Instagram/Snapchat: GPStephan Join the private Real Estate Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/therealestatemillionairemastermind/ Get $50 off for a LIMITED TIME with code ThankYou50 - The Real Estate Agent Academy: Learn how to start and grow your career as a Real Estate Agent to a Six-Figure Income, how to best build your network of clients, expand into luxury markets, and the exact steps I’ve used to grow my business from $0 to over $125 million in sales: https://goo.gl/UFpi4c First, for those just looking for a basic place to put their money, we have the almighty Ally Bank Savings Account that currently offers a 2% interest rate. You can also use a few other high interest bank accounts, like Barclays, Sychrony Bank, or American Express Savings…they all currently offer around a 2% return. Second…and this is arguably the most important part of this entire video…when it comes to investing, especially if you’re JUST starting out, is set up a Roth IRA. This is basically an account that you can put money into, and by the time you’re 59.5, you can pull ALL of your profit completely tax free without paying ANY capitals gains tax. Vanguard has a great option for a Roth IRA if you chose to invest with them. Now third, in terms of WHAT to invest in, my BIGGEST recommendation for MOST people out there is to invest in an index fund with a low expense ratio. When people always ask “how can you get an averaged 8% return”…this is pretty much my advice. Long term, historically, over the last century, the stock market has returned about 8% annually, adjusted for inflation, with dividends re-invested. Ok…number 4…and I figured I’d put this here instead of listing it back to back with the Roth IRA…but that’s setting up a Traditional 401k. This is an account where whatever you contribute is deducted from your total taxable income, and you can grow your investment tax free until you take it out at 59.5. This means that you’ll have MORE money to invest because you’re paying LESS in taxes. The “catch,” however, is that you’ll pay taxes on whatever you take out of your account after the age of 59.5. Now number 5…back to investment options. If you want to, or you’re interested in doing a little more work, you can invest in individual stocks. I personally recommend you try to do this within a Roth IRA or 401k to avoid getting taxed on your profits…but this isn’t required. You can just as easily open an account on Robinhood, invest in individual stocks commission free, and reap some pretty great returns. Now Number 6…my favorite…obviously…is investing in real estate Real Estate. Now unfortunately, this is one of those things that you’ll probably need to work up to. Especially if you’re just starting, unless you have a decent amount of money to already work with, I’d probably recommend saving up or investing elsewhere and then coming back to real estate one you have some capital to work with. Typically, you’re going to need about a 15-20% down payment - which could be a lot of money depending on where you’re planning to invest. But real estate is my favorite for a few reasons: The first if that you get immediate cashflow from renting it out. Second, because of all of the tax deductions, most of that income you make is tax free Third, you’re able to BORROW most of the money to buy real estate and slowly pay that off over time Fourth, you’re building up equity as you pay down the loan - so eventually you’ll own it outright And finally, the property is likely to increase in value over time This is why it’s no surprise that 90% of the world’s millionaires are created through investing in real estate…and I’m absolutely no exception! And finally…number 7…drum roll…is investing into a business. And this is probably where you can get the highest return from just about ANYTHING I’ve mentioned so far, or pretty much ANY other investment out there. Now these are just a few ideas for you to go out and consider…some people might say forex trading, swing trading, etc, the list goes on. But as I mention time and time again, the higher the return, the riskier the investment, and that’s absolutely something to take into consideration. The Bike Chaser Capital Raise (A timely investment)

07:24
It's time. Bike Chaser has reached a tipping point.(www.bikechaser.com.au) We're looking for an investment partner that can help take the Bike Chaser marketplace to the next level. Why are we looking for funding now? Three simple reasons: 1/ We now have a critical mass. 15,000 cycling products on our marketplace, 140 active bike shops, and tens of thousands of active users/traffic looking for a cycling product and a relationship with a good quality local bike shop. 2/ After two years of learning, including making some mistakes, we now have a clear understanding of what’s required to make Bike Chaser a success. We have the formula. 3/ We now have a proven end-to-end model. We have a leading platform that delivers value. As a result, we have bike shops that are subscribing to us for a monthly fee What will we do with the investment? 5 key areas: #1: Search Engine Optimisation, to increase traffic and leads to bike stores (partnership with SEO company) During our two-year period, we’ve been through three separate SEO organisations. The third one we partnered with was a success. At the time we invested into one state, being Victoria with 10 key search terms. We are now ready to take that strategy nationally and boost the keywords substantially. This is a $48K investment per annum. #2: Sales & Account Management, to grow our revenue model (Full-time employee) We need to hire a person who is 100% focused on relationship sales and our bike shop clients. Acquisition, onboarding, and servicing the long-term needs of our client bike shops is key. #3: Content Writers, to build sustained long-term organic traffic and leads to bike stores (Consulting basis) We need to up the level of conversion content on Bike Chaser. Two pieces a week minimum, that ranks well in Google and drives first, second and third-time bicycle buyers to the Bike Chaser website. #4: Tech development, to maintain a robust and up to date technology platform While we currently have access to a development team through the web development firm, Light Media, (Owned by Bike Chaser Directors), the ideal approach is to have one full time developer on Bike Chaser to assist with day to day enhancements and fixes, and long-term strategic technology add-ons. #5: Cam Nicholls going full time on Bike Chaser. I can oversee all facets on a day-to-day operation, and I have been able to develop a unique and powerful skill in online media, digital marketing, and video. Creating unique Bike Chaser videos and promoting this video content will be my primary hands-on focus to help Bike Chaser deliver the qualified referrals to our client bikes shops. Please message me directly if you have an interest in exploring this opportunity in further detail. Cam Nicholls Bike Chaser Co-founder

Investment Crowdfunding - Invest in Business You Believe in | Peter-Paul Van Hoeken | TEDxSFU

12:47
Until recently you could only own equity in a company after an initial public offering (IPO) or as an ultra-rich angel investor. What if you could co-own companies during the start-up phase without being an angel investor or venture capitalist? Equity-based crowdfunding is here for the first time in Canada, so how will this change the landscape for both investors and startup entrepreneurs? Peter-Paul answers. Peter-Paul is the founder and CEO of FrontFundr, a crowd-finance based investment platform. He also serves as a Director on the National Board of the Private Capital Markets Association of Canada (PCMA) and an Advisor of the National CrowdFunding Association Canada (NCFA). Generating MONTHLY DIVIDENDS For Early Retirement and Financial Freedom

14:53
I invest for dividends because I will one day live off dividends. One day, dividends will fully replace my earned income. With earned income (working a job and/or performing consulting), paychecks are rather regular. In fact, many jobs pay employees twice per month. Dividends, by contrast, are more lumpy. In the United States, dividend checks typically come quarterly. In the rest of the world, sometimes dividends are paid twice per year. When one transitions from earned income to full time early retirement (also known as financial freedom), budgeting is key. Lumpy dividend payouts are more difficult to budget than a regular, twice per month paycheck. Today's video is about this very topic. Today's video covers strategies for making dividend payouts more regular and fluid, just like one's paycheck. I also cover strategies to get ready for either partial or full financial freedom. In particular, I cover: * Why having a cash buffer is so important heading into financial freedom. Financial freedom should carry less stress, not more stress. One does not want to wait for dividend checks to pay bills, and a cash buffer can be truly invaluable. * Why I own a stock that pays monthly dividends. Why this company has a unique place in my portfolio and helps create more fluidity in my dividend income. While I only own one monthly dividend company, it sure plays an important role on my team. * Why it's of critical importance to exercise discipline, both before and after financial freedom. * In reality, how dividends are a bit more fluid in a more mature portfolio. As a dividend investor with over 20 years of experience and with over 30 positions in my portfolio, my dividends tend to stagger pretty well. Since different companies pay dividends different months, it all tends to even out. Mentioned in today's video, I'm now on Instagram. You can find me here. Reach out and ask a question! https://www.instagram.com/ianlopuch/ At the end of the day, I will never let dividend schedule dictate a holding. I only invest based on fundamentals, not payout schedule. Here's one of my videos on fundamental stock analysis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDxYxsvPc_s This year, I'm buying KMB and PG. I don't even know their dividend schedules, I just know they pay quarterly. (After all, I invest for fundamentals, not payout schedules.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGRmIeiep1g Disclosure: I am long Kimberly-Clark (KMB) and Procter & Gamble (PG). I own both of these stocks in my portfolio. Disclaimer: I'm not a licensed investment advisor, and today's video is just for entertainment and fun. This video is NOT investment advice.
