[HOW TO]- Store Bitcoin On USB Stick - Guide

14:01
In this video I'll show you how to make a secure and encrypted USB Bitcoin Wallet. I'm going to use MultiBit to create this wallet and then store it onto a USB thumb drive for safe keeping. I'm also going to copy the contents of the USB drive onto multiple other USB drives so that my money is backed up in multiple locations. This way, if anything happens to one of my USB wallets, I can fall back on a copy that I made, and recover the bitcoins (BTC). Even though there are copies of my wallet files, they will all be updated to the real balance if any one of them is modified. This is because the private keys, once accessed with your password or pass phrase, within the Bitcoin network ultimately keep track of the money associated with them. This is why we can create this wallet offline, and allow the network to synchronize and verify that the funds that are supposed to be in our wallet appear. If necessary, we can send the funds from the USB stick to another wallet, either Online, Cloud, or Offline cold storage. Thanks for watching! Advanced Bitcoin Scripting -- Part 1: Transactions & Multisig

59:58
This is the first part of a more technical talk where Andreas explores Bitcoin script, with examples from the 2nd edition of Mastering Bitcoin, focusing on the use of conditional statements, flow control, guard clauses and time locks. The examples will include advanced multi-signature scripts, hash time lock contracts and asymmetric revocable commitments. Then he answers questions about Bitcoin's quirky bugs, where Bitcoin differs from Ethereum at a scripting level, how SegWit works, how consensus rules change, and whether Bitcoin is more than just a currency. Recover Litecoin If Sent to Bitcoin Wallet Address Electrum

09:55
This tutorial only works if you have access to your private keys of your BTC address, but if your wallet is ledger nano S you will have to follow a different guide since that creates Segwit addresses, they start with a 3, but they are different than a multisig. In this video I send litecoin to a multisig 2FA bitcoin address, and demonstrate how to recover it. This is useful if you accidentally copied a bitcoin address when you were intending to copy a litecoin address. So your LTC got locked in a BTC address. Always use strong passwords, never leave a wallet file without a password. Use a hardware wallet if you can. Control your own keys, do not leave coins on exchanges. I am going to leave the LTC in the wallet, help yourself, whoever takes it please leave a comment below. Also never show people your seed on internet unless you are intending to give away the coins, also it is really bad practice to put your seed in a text document, write it down by hand. :) Another consideration, disconnect yourself from the internet to do this tutorial, you really do not want to have your private keys on the screen or in plain text ever, unless you are disconnected from the internet and know your computer is clean hasn't been compromised. Blockchain 101 Ep 22 - Bitcoin Change Address

It is possible to send bitcoins from multiple addresses or send to multiple addresses in one go. For instance, you need to pay Mr Bull 5 Bitcoins and you only have 1, 2, and 2 Bitcoins in addresses A, B and C respectively. Neither wallet has enough to pay him. However, you can send him the Bitcoins from all 3 addresses to Mr Bull. Another scenario, you have 5 Bitcoins in your address. But you only want to send Mr Bull one. You need to inform the miners, “I have 5 Bitcoins, I want to send 1 to Mr Bull, and send the rest to myself.” It could be to either the original address, or to a new one. Don’t forget to do so! Otherwise, miners will take the rest of the Bitcoins as transaction fee. This is how Bitcoin’s change addresses work. Watch the video here! Blockchain tutorial 29: Hierarchical Deterministic wallet - BIP32 and BIP44

25:55
This is part 29 of the Blockchain tutorial. In this video series different topics will be explained which will help you to understand blockchain. It is recommended to watch each video sequentially as I may refer to certain Blockchain topics explained earlier. DETERMINISTIC WALLET BIP-39 describes how the mnemonic words are created. These mnemonic words together with a password (optionally) are used to generate a 512 bit seed. The 512 bit seed is also called the "BIP-39 seed". This seed is used to create deterministic wallets. There are two types of deterministic wallets: - Sequential deterministic wallets. - Hierarchical deterministic wallets. SEQUENTIAL DETERMINISTIC WALLET Sequential deterministic wallets generates private keys for example by taking SHA256(seed + n) HIERARCHICAL DETERMINISTIC WALLET Nowadays most wallets are Hierarchical Deterministic (HD) wallets. More information: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0032.mediawiki Most HD wallet vendors have implemented BIP-32, BIP-39 and BIP-44. These 3 Bitcoin Improvement Proposals are becoming an industry standard. BIP-39 BIP-39 describes the implementation of mnemonic words to generate a 512 bit seed. More information: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039.mediawiki BIP-32 BIP-32 describes how you can build a general hierarchical deterministic wallet. More information: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0032.mediawiki https://bitcoin.org/en/developer-guide#hierarchical-deterministic-key-creation If you want to see how BIP32 is implemented in the bitcoinjs library, see: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/bitcoinjs/bitcoinjs-lib/master/src/hdnode.js Online web application: https://www.mobilefish.com/download/ethereum/hd_wallet.html BIP-32 explains how master keys and master chain code are created from a BIP-39 seed. The chain code is used as entropy in the Child Key Derivation function. Using different index numbers will create different unlinkable child keys from the same parent keys. Repeating the procedure for the child keys using the child chain code will create unlinkable grandchild keys. By changing the chain code, a new node (aka wallet) is created. Extended private (xprv) keys can create a complete branch with child private keys and child public keys Extended public (xpub) keys can only generate public keys. BIP-44 BIP-44 defines a specific logical hierarchy for deterministic wallets based on an algorithm described in BIP-32. More information: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0044.mediawiki BIP-44 uses the following derivation path: m/purpose'/coin_type'/account'/change/address_index The letter m denotes the master node and all hierarchical levels are separated with slashes (/). m is level 0, purpose is level 1, coin_type is level 2 etc. The purpose scheme is described in BIP-43. Because we are using BIP44 scheme we should use 44'. The apostrophe (for example in purpose') indicates hardened derivation. More information: https://github.com/satoshilabs/slips/blob/master/slip-0044.md account level can be seen as bank account types, for example payment account, savings account etc. change level is also known as "external / internal level" where external (0) is used for addresses that are meant to be visible outside of the wallet (receiving payments) and internal (1) is used for addresses which are not meant to be visible outside of the wallet (signing transactions). address_index is a sequence of addresses starting at 0. BIP-44 XPRV AND XPUB DEMONSTRATION Suppose a webshop wants to receive payments in only in ETH. For each payment received a different Ethereum address must be used. The webshop should use a wallet containing only public keys. The webshop wallet uses a xpub key with derivation path: m/44'/60'/0'/0 This wallet creates the following addresses: m/44'/60'/0'/0/0 m/44'/60'/0'/0/.. The accounting department uses another wallet containing the same public keys AND accompanied private keys. The accounting department can transfer payments made on these public addresses and transfer it to a separate accounting address. This is possible because they have access to the private keys. The accounting department wallet uses a xprv key with the same derivation path: m/44'/60'/0'/0 BIP-32 RISK If a hacker gets it hands on any child private key and the account xpub key, the hacker can recompute the account xprv key and thus have access to every private and public key descending from the account level. More information: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0032.mediawiki#implications Check out all my other Blockchain tutorial videos https://goo.gl/aMTFHU Subscribe to my YouTube channel https://goo.gl/61NFzK The presentation used in this video tutorial can be found at: https://www.mobilefish.com/developer/blockchain/blockchain_quickguide_tutorial.html #mobilefish #blockchain #bitcoin #cryptocurrency #ethereum

Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash: 18m Users Will Soon Be Given The Choice 🤔 (The Cryptoverse)

10:38
So https://www.blockchain.com This is one of THE most widely used Bitcoin wallets in the world. They claim here over 18m wallets have been created or managed through Blockchain.info and they have broadcast over 100m transactions. This means that what Blockchain.info does with their platform matters. It matters because they are the wallet of choice for the average non-technical user and because of that, any technical change they make to their platform that the average user doesn’t understand, means Blockchain.info are essentially making that choice for them. One of the main reasons people go to Blockchain is because they want a simple user experience that hides a lot of the complexity. The flip side to that however is that their 18m users may not fully understand the implications of what Blockchain.info decide to do. I recently pointed out for example that on Segwit Party: http://segwit.party/charts/ ...a site that tracks the percentage of transactions that use the SegWit address format, shows that this is still only happening for about 10% of Bitcoin transactions. I also pointed out that Blockchain.info probably have a lot to do with this. I use Blockchain like I would my regular wallet. It’s the one I carry with me all the time with a small amount of Bitcoin in it for spending at places that accept it. I noticed that even now after Segwit has been with us for months, when I click receive in my Blockchain.info wallet, it doesn’t generate a Segwit address. So that means all the thousands and thousands of transactions per day day that originate from Blockchain.info wallets are using the old transaction format and taking up more blockspace than they need to. This is especially important right now when BTC.com is reporting a pool of unconfirmed transactions that totals 96MB, and it’s been at this level for days now. So to be clear, Blockchain failing to fully adopt Segwit into their platform is contributing to this backlog. Not contributing to it exactly but holding back on something that could seriously ease the problem. And like I said most of their users have no idea this is going on. Now time for the news: https://blog.blockchain.com/2017/11/15/segwit-bitcoin-cash-update/ In a blog post published on the 15th of November, Blockchain announced that they are going to make 2 major changes to their wallet platform. The first change is to add Bitcoin Cash support by the end of the year, and the second is that they’ll be rolling out Segwit towards the end of March 2018. 18m wallets remember so this huge. Putting the Bitcoin Cash thing to one side, as soon as Blockchain.info switch their platform to use Segwit by default, all their users will start generating Segwit address when they click receive. This will do the whole Bitcoin ecosystem some good in terms of transaction backlogs since Blockchain.info will no longer be a big source of old style transactions that take up more space. It’s still 4 months away, which is an eternity in the Bitcoin world, but at least we are no longer in the dark about this. Now I’m going to slightly contradict myself. I said that the average Blockchain.info user comes to them because they want a simple interface and for Blockchain.info to hide the complexity. Well, by the end of this year, all those users are going to see a 3rd cryptocurrency appear in their wallet. Blockchain.info already supports Bitcoin and Ethereum, but one day you’ll log in and see you now have a place to store your Bitcoin Cash. This will have many repercussions. One of the most major being that suddenly millions of people who may never have even heard of Bitcoin Cash will discover it for the first time. Another implication is that some users might accidentally try and send from their Bitcoin wallet inside Blockchain.info to their Bitcoin Cash address. I think the Blockchain developers will catch this and prevent it from happening but they can’t prevent a user from accidentally sending from an external Bitcoin wallet and trying to receive it into their Bitcoin Cash wallet. This is really down to the Bitcoin Cash developers. I thought there was some talk about changing the address format so that there was a clear distinction between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash addresses but that seems to have gone quiet. So in conclusion: I bet one of the reasons Blockchain have given themselves several months to make these changes is not just about software development but to get their support team ready. I can see them receiving a tidal wave of support tickets from confused users asking everything from ‘what is this Bitcoin Cash’ to ‘I sent my Bitcoin to my Cash address by accident’ and so on. On a more abstract level, are they doing the right thing giving their users the choice between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash? They say it is due to user demand, however I can already hear people objecting on the basis that if Bitcoin Cash did not carry the Bitcoin name, Blockchain would not be making this move.

Bitcoin Q&A: What is Segregated Witness?

14:41
What is Segregated Witness (SegWit)? How do you know you’re using SegWit? SegWit fixes transaction malleability and enables further upgrades towards Bitcoin smart contracts. Can transaction malleability lead to denial-of-service (DoS) attacks? Does SegWit put witness data in a different block? Did SegWit change transaction validation? versus? Are there any security risks of invalid blocks? CORRECTION: At ~2:07, I stated the incorrect BIP number for the Bech32 address format, which should be BIP173. How to Create a Free Online Bitcoin Wallet

05:57
Check out my facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/All-How-2s/198429346974010 or my twitter: https://twitter.com/AllHow2s Or my website where I have a lot of other great tutorials (such as how to take a screenshot, or how to get the start button back on Windows 8): www.allhow2s.com This video will show you how to create a free online bitcoin wallet, where you can send, receive and store bitcoins in. AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Treat this the same as a bank account, but even then much more securely than that. If a hacker gained access to your account, or you gave out your password, your bitcoins could be stolen, and there is ABSOLUTELY nothing you can do in that event. There are no charge backs, and no one will reimburse you. Authorities would not even be able to track down the person who stole them. So be careful! With that said, these bitcoin wallets are very secure, and can be accessed from your internet browser, or from an app on your phone (blockchain app). The site uses a very cool authentication system that means that even they don't have access to your bitcoins, only the person with the password does. Just please read up on the security information of the wallet before you store a large amount of bitcoins there, as I don't take any responsibility for any coins you might lose. I have used this wallet for a while with no issues. The site to go to is blockchain.info. Then click the wallet option at the top right. Then, choose the create wallet option at the top left. Here you can enter an email if you choose (I would recommend entering one, but if you want to remain completely anonymous then you can). Then, enter a password that is at least 10 characters long, has an uppercase letter, and a number. After this, hit continue. It should then pop up with a page with a pneumonic device that can be used for password recovery. WRITE THIS DOWN OR PRINT IT OUT! It is your only option in the case of a lost/forgotten password. After this hit continue, and then just type in your password to log into your wallet. Here you can do all the things you would do with any other bitcoin wallet, such as receive and send coins. You can also set up two factor authentication in the settings here, so that it requires a second password for more protection. Your bitcoin address that you can receive bitcoins on will be on the front page of your wallet in the form of a long string of letters and numbers, as well as a QR code (that can be scanned by a phone). This is the address you can paste into a site such as http://www.bitvisitor.com/?ref=1H4v3X6Yf4SjUndU4r18ybvzzFfdwfoVk8 which will then send you bitcoins. This is also the bitcoin address you would input to a mining pool to receive the bitcoins you have mined. You can also send bitcoins from this wallet. All you have to do is copy and paste the address you want to send bitcoins to in the send address box. (For instance my address is 1H4v3X6Yf4SjUndU4r18ybvzzFfdwfoVk8 so you could copy and paste that in to send me bitcoins. Keep in mind that there is a "Miner's fee" for sending bitcoins. This fee supports the bitcoin network and keep it operating well. Currently the fee is .0001 bitcoins (about 10 cents) per transaction. If you have any issues just leave a comment below and I will get back to you!

Blockchain 101 Ep 19 - What are Bitcoin nodes?

01:16
Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. Or, node-to-node. In every transaction, the sender sends information to surrounding nodes, which broadcasts to their surrounding nodes, covering the entire network. Every Bitcoin wallet acts as a node. Among them, full nodes store the entire ledger. As of October 2017, the Bitcoin network has around 9300 full nodes running, responsible for broadcasting and validating transactions. When a transaction occurs, all nodes will relay the information to the entire network. After validation, nodes will verify and update the transaction on the blockchain. USA, Germany and France have the most number of Bitcoin full nodes. China accounts for 5% of full nodes worldwide. Since there are no rewards for maintaining nodes and Bitcoins can still be transferred without relying on full nodes, full nodes only make up a small percentage of nodes in the network.
