Russian to English Translation Issues| Watch out for "The, A, An"

01:21
http://usatranslations.com Russian to English Translations This video discusses the big difference in Russian's economy of word usage compared to English. Russian does not have the common English articles "the, a, an" which could become catastrophic for legal documents in English that lack these small words. As any lawyer can tell you, every word in a contract counts. USA Translations offers professional translation services in over 100 languages, specializing in legal, tech, and medical translations. Many of our global team members hold advanced degrees as well.

Setting realistic translation times made easy!

07:50
This simple 4-step formula lets anyone work out realistic translation times for any business or personal translation project. Basically you: 1. Get the number of words to be translated 2. Divide that by 300 or 2500 (to give the hours/days of translating time) 3. Add in time for the translator’s self-review process (essential!) 4. Allow for a 2nd translator review (if required) Now it’s important to realise that the translation times you’ll get are for professional quality translations by experienced human translators. That is, are realistic time frames to ensure professional translators can consistently deliver well-worded and accurate translations you can use for any purpose. Along the way we discuss key issues like realistic translator speeds, the effect on translation quality of working extended hours, and how repeated and previously translated text impacts timings. To finish we discuss 2 ways (the only two ways actually) to reduce translation turnaround times when you need to, and two project types where you’ll need to allow more time. When you’ve finished, make sure to head over to our longer blog article where we have a very useful table of translation project times you can download and use for further reference: http://www.pactranz.com/blog/translation-times/ And while you’re there, check out our other practical translation-related articles for business clients. The 5-step translation process - it's best practice for a reason!

06:51
There is a well-established 5-step language translation process that is recognised as best practice, and that every translator needs to follow if they expect to provide translations that are accurate and well worded. That is, to translate to professional standard, consistently. Trouble is of course, not all translators do follow this process. In fact, many untrained translators won’t even know about it, or have any inkling why it’s so essential. Basically, translation is a rather difficult skill. You have to simultaneously juggle vocabulary choices and different grammar systems to produce text that not only correctly conveys all the meaning of the original, but does it in a way that reads naturally and well. This turns out to be a bit too much for the brain to handle in a single go, so a multi-step translation process is needed to fix the (virtually inevitable) shortcomings of the first attempt. The key feature of this best-practice process is that it has a separate step to check for accuracy – that all meaning has been carried across into the translation, and another focusing specifically on quality of wording. It’s a time-tested process that makes an enormous difference to translation quality and accuracy. This presentation briefly explains the process, and spells out what happens when the QA steps are either omitted or rushed through to hit a tight deadline. Our related blog article goes into things in a little more depth, and has an excellent summary pdf of the process for download – check it out at http://www.pactranz.com/blog/language-translation-process/ And make sure to also have a look at our other practical translation-related guides and articles. How language shapes the way we think | Lera Boroditsky

14:13
There are about 7,000 languages spoken around the world -- and they all have different sounds, vocabularies and structures. But do they shape the way we think? Cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky shares examples of language -- from an Aboriginal community in Australia that uses cardinal directions instead of left and right to the multiple words for blue in Russian -- that suggest the answer is a resounding yes. "The beauty of linguistic diversity is that it reveals to us just how ingenious and how flexible the human mind is," Boroditsky says. "Human minds have invented not one cognitive universe, but 7,000." United States Constitution · Amendments · Bill of Rights · Complete Text + Audio

01:06:07
Complete text & audio of the U.S. constitution and its amendments. Listen and read along. ► INTRODUCTION The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the United States of America. The Constitution, originally comprising seven articles, delineates the national frame of government. Its first three articles entrench the doctrine of the separation of powers, whereby the federal government is divided into three branches: the legislative, consisting of the bicameral Congress; the executive, consisting of the President; and the judicial, consisting of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. Articles Four, Five and Six entrench concepts of federalism, describing the rights and responsibilities of state governments and of the states in relationship to the federal government. Article Seven establishes the procedure subsequently used by the thirteen States to ratify it. Since the Constitution came into force in 1789, it has been amended twenty-seven times. In general, the first ten amendments, known collectively as the Bill of Rights, offer specific protections of individual liberty and justice and place restrictions on the powers of government. The majority of the seventeen later amendments expand individual civil rights protections. Others address issues related to federal authority or modify government processes and procedures. Amendments to the United States Constitution, unlike ones made to many constitutions world-wide, are appended to the end of the document. At seven articles and twenty-seven amendments, it is the shortest written constitution in force. All five pages of the original U.S. Constitution are written on parchment. The Constitution is interpreted, supplemented, and implemented by a large body of constitutional law. The Constitution of the United States is the first constitution of its kind, adopted by the people's representatives for an expansive nation; and it has influenced the constitutions of other nations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Constitution ► INDEX (Click on time to jump to section) 01. Translating Kafka: Will Self, Anthea Bell, Joyce Crick, Karen Seago and Amanda Hopkinson

01:42:03
Read Will Self in the LRB: http://lrb.me/g80 Will Self talks to leading translators about the complexities of Franz Kafka’s German. The panel comprises Will Self, Dr Anthea Bell, Dr Joyce Crick, Dr Karen Seago and Professor Amanda Hopkinson. The discussion formed part of Will Self's digital essay project on Kafka for the London Review of Books: http://thespace.lrb.co.uk/ ABOUT THE LRB Since 1979, the London Review of Books has stood up for the tradition of the literary and intellectual essay in English. Each issue contains up to 15 long reviews and essays by academics, writers and journalists. There are also shorter art and film reviews, as well as poems and a lively letters page. A typical issue moves through political commentary to science or ancient history by way of literary criticism and social anthropology. So, for example, an issue can open with a piece on the rhetoric of war, move on to reassessing the reputation of Pythagoras, follow that with articles on the situation in Iraq, the 19th-century super-rich, Nabokov’s unpublished novel, how saints got to be saints, the life and work of William Empson, and an assessment of the poetry of Alice Oswald.

Making a difference through research. AORN Journal, 88(5), 716-6+. doi:10.1016/j.aorn.2008.07.023 ~~~~ Clearly articulating the gap in current knowledge logically leads the reader to how your study will contribute to existing knowledge. This gap is broken down in the background section by critiquing previous research, but you also need to make sure you explicitly outline the gap in a problem statement. Your goal is to make it clear enough that anyone will see the problem the way you do. Make sure you understand what the problem is before you start to write. In order to create a logical argument to study an issue you need to know what the problem is. Your problem should be interesting, clinically significant and feasible. If you aren’t sure what the problem is talk to people in the field because they are the best position to identify meaningful issues in need of study and ask important questions that will impact outcomes. If you pick a problem that aligns with the needs of an organisation or funding agency you are more likely to get funding. ... A general problem statement should be found in the introduction section of a paper. Tell the reader why the topic matters. This statement will lead to the background or literature review, which examines the scope and magnitude of the issue in more detail. The purpose of placing a problem statement in the introduction section of your paper is to catch the reader’s attention early. Your teacher may call this part of the paper or proposal the significance of the issue. ... Before you state the problem you should start by recapping what you just told the reader the current state of knowledge is about your topic within your discipline. Think of this sentence as the lead-in to the problem. Now comes the critical step of articulating the problem that your study will then help to solve. The actual problem statement serves as a clear transition from the literature review to the study purpose. Your purpose or research question will help to solve your problem. Therefore the problem statement and research purpose need to support each other. By the time the reader reaches your purpose they should already have an idea what it will be and know why it is an important. It is also helpful to state the consequences of either filling or not filling the gap in knowledge. If you establish the importance of the issue for your audience here your proposal will be more likely to get the attention of other researchers, key stakeholders or funding agencies. ... Articulating the problem statement is a difficult task. Like the purpose, you should revisit, critique and revise it several times throughout your proposal or paper writing process. Every time you make a decision about the study ask yourself if what you are doing helps to solve your problem and answer your question. ~~~~ http://youstudynursing.com/ Research eBook on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1hB2eBd Check out the links below and SUBSCRIBE for more youtube.com/user/NurseKillam For help with Research - Get my eBook "Research terminology simplified: Paradigms, axiology, ontology, epistemology and methodology" here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GLH8R9C Related Videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs4oKIDq23AcDWoE3fxbfd37_NXSEDq5w Connect with me on Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/youstudynursing https://www.facebook.com/NursesDeservePraise Twitter: @NurseKillam https://twitter.com/NurseKillam Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/laura.killam LinkedIn: http://ca.linkedin.com/in/laurakillam

CHOOSING YOUR BIBLE: Bible Translation Differences by Edward D. Andrews http://www.christianpublishers.org/apps/webstore/products/show/7616232 Print List Price: $12.95 CPH Price: $6.95 Save $6.00 (45%) BOOK DETAILS Paperback: 133 pages Publisher: Christian Publishing House (Oct. 10, 2017) Language: English ISBN-13: 978-1-945757-68-6 ISBN-10: 1-945757-68-X Product Dimensions: 5" x 8" ALSO IN EBOOK FORMAT Kindle eBook Amazon : $5.95 Nook eBook Barnes & Noble : $5.95 Kobo eBooks : $5.95 Google eBooks : $5.95 Vyrso eBook : $5.95 BOOK DESCRIPTION There are more than 150 different Bible translations in the English language alone. Some are what we call literal translations, which seeks to give the reader the exact English equivalent of what was written in the original language text, thus allowing the reader access to the actual Word of God. Then, there are dynamic equivalents, where the translator determines what the author meant by the original language text, and this is what they give the reader. There is also a paraphrase translation, which is an extremely interpretive translation. Exactly what are these differences? Are some translations better than others? What standards and principles can we use to determine what makes a good translation? Andrews introduces the readers to the central issues in this debate and presents several reasons why essentially literal translations are superior to dynamic equivalent and paraphrase translations. We do not need to be a Bible scholar to understand these issues, as well as the importance having the most accurate and faithful translation that is reflective of the original text. The meaning of a word is the responsibility of the interpreter (i.e., reader), not the translator. The primary purpose of a translator is to give the Bible readers what God said by way of his human authors, not what a translator thinks God meant in its place. Andrews confronts this issue and makes the subject very easy to understand in this short, logical, and straightforward book, which gives the churchgoer a valuable tool for selecting their Bible translation. AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY EDWARD D. ANDREWS (AS in Criminal Justice, BS in Religion, MA in Biblical Studies, and MDiv in Theology) is CEO and President of Christian Publishing House. He has authored sixty-three books and coauthored and updated and expanded five books, as well as over 200 articles. Andrews is the Chief Translator of the Updated American Standard Version.

HOW TO UNDERSTAND YOUR CAT BETTER

09:20
How to understand your cat? 🐱 How to make friends with your cat? 😍 Everyone knows that cats are the most illogical and unpredictable pets. Just try to work out what’s going through that furry little head! It turns out that cats have their own language, and if you learn it there’s a chance you’ll understand them much better. We’ve put together all of the possible cat behaviors to help you find a common language with your pet (well, if it allows you to). Also, we’ve prepared three essential tips that will help you communicate with cats better. HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR CAT • How to make your cat trust you Lowering your cat to the ground, make sure its paws have reached the floor. Your cat will trust you and know that it won’t tumble if you let it go. • How to stroke your cat If you sit on the floor with your legs crossed and look at your cat, it will interpret this as a friendly gesture and come up to you to let you stroke it. Also, stretch your hand out in its direction. Your middle finger should be a little lower than the others. The cat will start rubbing its nose or face against your hand. • How to make your cat appear A cat may go and hide and only appear when it’s alone or hears a calm voice. #understandcat #catbehavior #pet TIMESTAMPS Cat's tail 0:52 Cat's eyes 3:47 Cat's interaction with people 4:38 Cat gestures 6:14 Cat language 6:57 How to communicate with your cat better 8:09 MAIN CAT GESTURES • If a cat raises its nose up and throws its head, it’s saying, “I see you.” Cats often make this gesture to people walking past the window. Have you ever noticed it? • A cat might press its ears against its head if it feels scared, worried, or wants to play. They also do this when they are sniffing something that’s interested them. • When a cat sticks its tongue out slightly and licks itself, it’s worried or anxious. CAT LANGUAGE • Cats generally greet people or announce their presence with a short sound. • Lengthy meowing indicates that your cat is very glad to see you. This occurs if you’re away from home for a long time. • A medium-length meow might be a request for water or food. • A long sound (a mix of purring and meowing) is a more insistent request or demand. • A low meow is a complaint or indication of dissatisfaction. Also, it might mean your cat is ready to fight. • A loud sound often indicates an urgent demand (for instance, you cat needs more food). • A purring or vibrating sound indicates a desire for closer contact or attention. Cats purr for various reasons, but most often they do it when they are happy. Now you know how to find a common language with any cat. By the way, are you a cat person or a dog person? The Art of Diplomacy

09:09
The art of diplomacy is vital if we are to get better at managing our relationships, our friendships and our working lives. The leaders of neighbouring states might be touchy on points of personal pride and quickly roused to anger; if they met head on, they might be liable to infuriate each other and start a disastrous war. Instead, they learnt to send emissaries, people who could state things in less inflammatory ways, who wouldn’t take the issues so personally, who could be more patient and emollient. Diplomacy was a way of avoiding the dangers that come from decisions taken in the heat of the moment. In their own palaces, two kings might be thumping the table and calling their rivals by abusive names; but in the quiet negotiating halls, the diplomat would say: ‘my master is slightly disconcerted…’…” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/gV4Dsj MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Visit us in person at our London HQ: https://goo.gl/8xLcmE Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Download our App: https://www.theschooloflife.com/app-2/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Ana Mouyis https://anamouyis.com/ #TheSchoolOfLife

For FREE ENGLISH LEARNING RESOURCE- www.zitaenglish.com Let’s connect: Instagram – /vinitzita Facebook - @zitaeducation Twitter – @ZITAEducation Email- [email protected] In this live session we teach you how to read newspaper. We are reading one of the articles written by Mini Kapoor & published in one of the national newspapers- The Hindu. We have also provided vocabulary used in this article. Most people offer excuse that they don’t read newspaper because they don’t understand English of newspaper; while it is other way round- You don’t understand English of newspaper because you don’t read newspaper! In this video we show you how to make it useful for the learning of the English language and also to succeed in different competitive exams. The editorial pages of the prominent newspapers are rich in thought & vocabulary. They have a lot to offer in aspects of knowledge, vocabulary, current affairs and also grammar. Make it a point to read at least one editorial a day, they should indeed form the core of your refreshing process of reading & learning. A newspaper can be an excellent English teacher & not a very expensive one! The moment you find an interesting word, underline it & jot it down on a notebook after finishing the article. Now, look for its meaning in the dictionary and also search for its synonyms and antonyms. Most newspapers follow a set vocabulary pattern. Once you master certain words that a newspaper uses, your comprehension will go up & so will your confidence. If you come across different phrases and idioms, underline them too and learn their meanings & usage. Make a separate notebook for newspaper vocabulary & browse through these words every now & then. Don’t lose hope if you don’t understand words or articles in the beginning. Rome was not built in a day. It takes time to learn something worthwhile. The most important thing that you as a learner can develop is reading sense. You might not know the meaning of a particular word. So what? Try to guess it & when you crosscheck later on you will pleasantly surprise yourself. You may go awfully wrong at times but who said you will not fail. In your failures lie your most profound learning! Remember, how you learnt your native language. Once you are done with reading the editorial/article, now you need to go slow and look up for the different words and sentences which you have struggled to understand earlier. Don’t leave the comprehension to be understood later. Later could be never, so do it there and then. Investigate the entire subject of the article and makes notes of different words, phrases and idioms. Try to find out the general idea behind the editorial and this will also fortify your current affairs section. Hope you will develop a habit of reading newspaper on daily basis after watching this video.

⭐️Try Grammarly Grammar Checker - it's FREE! https://www.grammarly.com/mmmenglish SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT is one of the most common mistakes that English learners make! It's so easy to forget that the verb form in English sentences changes, depending on the subject! - I AM hungry... - She IS thirsty... - They ARE fighting... - We HAVE been travelling - It HAS been so long. - She DOESN'T know... - You DON'T know... - They LIKE to travel. - She LIKES to travel. This English lesson will help you to review subject-verb agreement rules and fix your English grammar mistakes! I will also explain how these rules work in more complicated sentences. For example: sentences where the subject is a noun phrase, or where the subject and the verb are separated by a relative clause. Why Avoidant and Anxious Partners Find It Hard to Split Up

04:38
Fractious couples are often made up of one party who is 'avoidant' (hiding their intimacy needs) and one who is 'anxious' (nagging and pressuring counter productively for their intimacy needs to be met). These couples go through cycles that run from cosiness to fury to sulk to blow up to cosiness. Why do these cycles happen and why are they so hard to break? What might be a better way forward? There is, in such couplings, a constant game of push and pull. The anxiously attached party typically complains – more or less loudly – that their partner is not responsive enough: they accuse them of being emotionally distant, withholding, cold and perhaps physically uninterested too. The avoidant lover, for their part, stays relatively quiet but in their more fed-up moments, complains that the anxious party is far too demanding, possibly ‘mad’ and, as they put it pejoratively, ‘needy’. One person seems to want far too much, the other far too little.” MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Visit us in person at our London HQ: https://bit.ly/2QrwC4v Watch more films on RELATIONSHIPS in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLrelationships You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Download our App: https://bit.ly/2NWdRJJ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Direction & Illustration- Natalia Ramos http://www.nataliarama.com #TheSchoolOfLife #AttachmentStyles #Relationships

Why We Pick Difficult Partners

05:46
In theory, we're nowadays allowed to get together with pretty much anyone we like. And yet, at a psychological level, we aren't free to love just any suitable person. We have a type - and strangely and awkwardly, these types are often not those who stand a chance of making us maximally happy. For gifts and more from The School of Life, visit our online shop: https://goo.gl/CEfzwf Join our mailing list: http://bit.ly/2e0TQNJ Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/wEx6vi Download our App: https://goo.gl/3SLxeL FURTHER READING “Theoretically we are free to select the kind of person we love. We might have chosen someone else. We’re not being forced into this by social convention or match-making aunts or dynastic imperatives. But in reality our choice is probably a lot less free than we imagine. Some very real constraints around whom we can love and feel properly attracted to come from a place we might not think to look: our childhoods. Our psychological history strongly predisposes us to fall for only certain types of people…” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/g7D7CP MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Visit us in person at our London HQ: https://goo.gl/wvh4qm Watch more films on RELATIONSHIPS in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLrelationships You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Download our App: https://goo.gl/3SLxeL Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Alexandra Balan https://www.sashaanimates.com/ https://vimeo.com/sashaanimates #TheSchoolOfLife

What Is the RNA World Hypothesis?

07:09
Click this link to take a survey about the video: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VS8SNBH All living creatures today reproduce and evolve using a complex gene-enzyme cycle. If we look at a cell, for example, information encoded in its genes is used to produce functional proteins called enzymes. Some of those enzymes then turn around to make copies of the cell's genes, allowing the cell to reproduce. Because the gene-enzyme system forms a closed loop, it presents us with a classic chicken or egg conundrum: Which came first, genes or the protein enzymes they code for? While the details are still not fully worked out, discoveries over the past few decades have lead researchers to a surprising possible solution: What really came first? Genes that act as enzymes! The RNA World Hypothesis is the idea that before living cells, the genetic code, and the gene/protein cycle ever existed, chains of a chemical called RNA were forming naturally. Once formed, some of these chains were able to function as enzymes, and were even able to evolve by making copies of themselves with slight, accidental modifications. While there is little doubt that RNA played a crucial role in the early development of life, the complexity of RNA is casting doubt on the idea that RNA was the first truly replicating and evolving chemical system. For this reason, alternatives to the “RNA first” view are also being investigated. Most notable is a proto-RNA hypothesis being studied by the lab of Nicholas Hud, and several metabolism first hypotheses which got their start from the work of Robert Shapiro. At this time, all serious investigations into the origin of life are being done under the overarching idea that life emerged from chemistry. SOURCES AND FURTHER READING RIBOZYMES The first RNA enzymes were discovered in 1982, now known as ribozymes. Here’s is a wonderful review of what we now know about ribozymes (well... as of 2002): Scientific Paper: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3770912/ Diverse and highly functional ribozymes can be evolved in the lab. Selection experiments have shown there are many pathways that evolution can take to produce a ribozyme with a given function. This means the evolution of function is much simpler than previously thought! Scientific Paper: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3902939/ Nucleotide building ribozymes have been evolved in the lab from random starting chains (this is the experiment discussed in our animation): Scientific Paper: http://www.sfu.ca/~punrau/pdfs/Lau_JACS_2004.pdf INITIAL RNA NUCLEOTIDE SYNTHESIS RNA nucleotides have been shown to form without enzymes under conditions that might have been plausible on the early Earth. That said, the reactions we’ve discovered so far do not appear robust enough to claim that the problem is fully solved: Scientific Paper: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v459/n7244/abs/nature08013.html Nature News overview of the discovery with objections discussed: http://www.nature.com/news/2009/090513/full/news.2009.471.html RNA REPLICATION BEFORE EVOLUTION OF ENZYMES 8 problems with RNA replication and likely solutions to them (note: number 8 now has two independent solutions demonstrated in the lab): Scientific Paper: https://jsystchem.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/1759-2208-3-2 ALTERNATIVES TO THE RNA WORLD HYPOTHESIS Here is an article reviewing the metabolism first hypothesis in contrast to the RNA first view: Blog post by professor Laurance Moran: http://sandwalk.blogspot.com/2009/05/metabolism-first-and-origin-of-life.html Here is an article reviewing research into a possible proto RNA World Hypothesis: Media article by quanta magazine https://www.quantamagazine.org/20140205-chemists-pursue-possible-precursor-to-rna/ Learn more about evolution and the origin of life at http://statedclearly.com and at http://centerforchemicalevolution.com
