02:13
What are Articles? Learn English Grammar! Articles are used to point out or refer to nouns. A, An and THE are called Articles. INDEFINITE ARTICLES - A and an are called indefinite articles because they do not refer to any particular or definite person, place or thing; as an umbrella, a boy, a book. DEFINITE ARTICLES - THE is called the definite article because it always points out some particular object. E.g. This is the boy who had stolen my purse. Live Newspaper Reading Session |How to read English Newspaper|Article on Friendship By Vinit Kapoor

Support the stream: https://streamlabs.com/learnenglishwithzita Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/zitaeducation/ Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/vinitzita/ Telegram- https://t.me/learnenglishwithzita In this live session we teach you how to read newspaper. We are reading one of the articles published in one of the national newspapers. We have also provided vocabulary used in this article. Most people offer excuse that they don’t read newspaper because they don’t understand English of newspaper; while it is other way round- You don’t understand English of newspaper because you don’t read newspaper! In this video we show you how to make it useful for the learning of the English language and also to succeed in different competitive exams. The editorial pages of the prominent newspapers are rich in thought & vocabulary. They have a lot to offer in aspects of knowledge, vocabulary, current affairs and also grammar. Make it a point to read at least one editorial a day, they should indeed form the core of your refreshing process of reading & learning. A newspaper can be an excellent English teacher & not a very expensive one! The moment you find an interesting word, underline it & jot it down on a notebook after finishing the article. Now, look for its meaning in the dictionary and also search for its synonyms and antonyms. Most newspapers follow a set vocabulary pattern. Once you master certain words that a newspaper uses, your comprehension will go up & so will your confidence. If you come across different phrases and idioms, underline them too and learn their meanings & usage. Make a separate notebook for newspaper vocabulary & browse through these words every now & then. Don’t lose hope if you don’t understand words or articles in the beginning. Rome was not built in a day. It takes time to learn something worthwhile. The most important thing that you as a learner can develop is reading sense. You might not know the meaning of a particular word. So what? Try to guess it & when you crosscheck later on you will pleasantly surprise yourself. You may go awfully wrong at times but who said you will not fail. In your failures lie your most profound learning! Remember, how you learnt your native language. Once you are done with reading the editorial/article, now you need to go slow and look up for the different words and sentences which you have struggled to understand earlier. Don’t leave the comprehension to be understood later. Later could be never, so do it there and then. Investigate the entire subject of the article and makes notes of different words, phrases and idioms. Try to find out the general idea behind the editorial and this will also fortify your current affairs section. Hope you will develop a habit of reading newspaper on daily basis after watching this video.
Grammar: Using THE with common and abstract nouns

10:08
An abstract noun is a word that means a general concept or idea, like "life" or "friendship". We can use "the" with common nouns, as in "the sky is blue". But can we use "the" with abstract nouns? For example, would you say "happiness is important" or "the happiness is important"? If you are not sure, watch this lesson to learn when to use "the" with general and abstract nouns. Don't forget to take the quiz afterwards to test your understanding! http://www.engvid.com/grammar-the-common-abstract-nouns/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. I'm Rebecca from engVid. Many English learners have trouble deciding when to use "the" or no "the", so I understand that problem, I know it can be a little bit confusing, but I believe that by the end of this lesson, you're going to find it much easier. Okay? So let's start with a little quiz first to see where you stand regarding that word "the". So, let's look at this first example. Should you say: "Life is beautiful." or "The life is beautiful."? Okay. Think about it. Decide. Another one: "Friendship is precious." or "The friendship is precious."? Which one is right? Think for yourself. We'll do one more, and then I'll give you the answers. "Happiness is important." or "The happiness is important."? Which one is correct? Do you know? How do you know? How do you decide which one is right? I'll tell you. When we're talking about something which is a general concept or idea, then we do not use "the". Okay? For example, let's take the first one. "Life is beautiful." Now, life is a general concept, so we do not need "the". So, this is the correct answer. All right? Not this. "Life is beautiful." Because life is a general idea, a general concept. Okay? We're not talking about anything specific. If we say: "The life of wise people is beautiful." that is something specific, and then we would be correct to say: "The life". Okay? But if we're just talking in general, then no "the". Let's look at the next example. "Friendship is precious." Again, friendship is a general idea or a general concept, so this is correct. Okay? In this example, this one was wrong. But if I said, for example: "The friendship between those two children is precious." then that would be fine, because now I'm specifying which friendship. Right? The friendship between those two children, so then it becomes specific, and then we would use "the". But in this example, this is correct. Okay? Just like this was, and this is wrong, because this is a general idea. Okay? Next one: "Happiness is important." By now you know, again, happiness is a general idea, a general concept, so this is correct. In this example, it would be wrong to say: "The happiness", because: The happiness of what? So, if we say: "The happiness of my family is important." that's fine. That's very good. That would be a perfect sentence. But in this case, we cannot say: "The happiness is important." because we didn't specify which happiness. Okay? So, in this case, that's wrong, and this is correct. Okay? Now, the same principle applies to these. See if you can figure it out. Okay? "I want to make money." or "I want to make the money."? Which one do you think is right? Are we speaking in general, or are we speaking specifically? Well, we are speaking in general right now, so this is correct, because we're just talking about money; we didn't say which money. I want to make money. Right? General idea. If I said, for example: "I want to make the money I need to pay my rent." that's specific, so then I could say: "the money", because I'm explaining after that which money. Okay? But in this example, no. Next one: "She wants to lose weight." or "She wants to lose the weight."? Is it general or is it specific? What do you think? It's still general. Good. By now you're getting really smart. "She wants to lose weight." is a general term. Right? We're just talking about weight in general; not any specific weight. But if I say: "She wants to lose the weight she put on during the holidays." that's specific, and then I need "the". Okay? But not in this example. So, last one here: "He needs to earn respect." or do we say: "He needs to earn the respect."? Is it general or is it specific? By now you know, you'll really know. It's general. Very good. Okay? Because we didn't talk about any specific respect; we're talking about respect in general. So: "He needs to earn respect." But if this was being used, it would be something like: "He needs to earn the respect of his peers." Peers are people your age. Okay? Or: "He needs to earn the respect of his employees." for example, or "of his parents". Then it becomes specific. Which respect? The respect of his parents, the respect of his employees. All right? So, if it was specific, then we could say "the", but when we're just talking in general, we don't need "the". "Life is beautiful.", "Friendship is precious.", "Happiness is important.", "I want to make money.", "She wants to lose weight.", "He needs to earn respect."

Even if you are an advanced speaker of English, I'm sure you will discover one or two rules that you didn't know about. Watch the lesson, then take the quiz at http://www.engvid.com/grammar-8-rules-the/ TRANSCRIPT http://www.engvid.com United States or The United States? U.K. or The U.K.? Unsure of when to use a definite or an indefinite article? Watch this lesson and stop making these common mistakes in English! Even if you are an advanced speaker of English, I'm sure you will discover one or two rules that you didn't know about. Watch the lesson, then take the quiz at http://www.engvid.com/grammar-8-rules-the/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, everyone. I'm Jade. In this lesson today, we're looking at the rules for articles, but more specifically, the rules where we have exceptions in using articles. So when I'm observing people's English, all the time I'm hearing the same mistakes with articles. So what you will learn to do in this lesson is how to avoid those really, really common mistakes I hear all the time. If you're somebody who just doesn't use articles at all because in your native language, you don't have articles, I understand it can be really, really hard to start using them. But they are an important aspect of grammar, and you should be using them. So if you watch this lesson, you'll get some tips for using articles, where you need them, and where you shouldn't use them. And also, if you're someone who's getting articles right nearly all the time, I'm quite sure that you will pick up one or two rules here that you didn't know before. So let's get started. There are eight different rules. Rule No. 1: When we're talking about countries, most countries we don't use an article. So here some sentences. "She lives in England. They live in America." We don't use articles. But if the country's considered to be a nation state, a collection of different states, or a collection of different countries in one bigger state, then we use articles. Here are examples. So "the U.S.A., the U.K., the U.A.E." -- where I spend a lot of my time -- and here are -- also, we need to mention islands. When a country is a group of islands, we always use articles. So we would say "the Virgin Islands", and we'd say "the Philippines" as well. It's interesting that we can say, "She lives in England" because England is one country, but when talking about the same -- okay, it's not exactly the same place, the U.K., because it's -- the U.K. is more than one country. It's more than just England. But sometimes people think of it as being the same place. It's not. When we're talking about the U.K., we need an article, but just for "England", it's okay not to use an article. Let's take a look at rule No. 2. Rule No. 2 -- this is a really subtle rule, here. And this one I always correct in sentences. When people talk about meals -- breakfast, lunch, dinner, also brunch is a meal you might not know. It's in between breakfast and lunch. -- we don't use articles. So here's a correct sentence. "I don't eat breakfast." I'm talking in general there. "I don't eat breakfast." That's okay to say. However, if I'm being specific, "We didn't like the dinner", it's okay to use an article here. You need to. So what does the sentence actually mean? Imagine that we were out last night, and we had a meal. And now, we're talking about it. "Well, the place was nice, but I didn't like the dinner." Being specific about that experience we had. If I'm talking in general, "I don't like dinner", that would just mean all the time, okay? So it's a very big difference in meaning. Now, we'll look at rule No. 3 for jobs. Jobs take the indefinite article. That's a grammar word. And "indefinite article" means "a". We don't use "the".

Transcript: Do you often find it difficult to write things? Like emails, letters or essays? Do you sit down to write something and then realize you don’t know what to write? If your answer is yes, then this lesson will help you to overcome exactly these problems because I’m going to teach you a very simple trick that you can use to write anything easily, quickly and effectively. This is a process used by the best writers in the world and it’s called the POWER writing method. You can use it to write emails for work, essays for your English exam, you can use it for letters, business reports, blog posts, stories – basically, anything that you need to write. But you might be asking – why is it called POWER writing? Well, POWER refers to the five stages of the writing process: Prepare, Organize, Write, Evaluate and Review. This is the order you will follow and it will allow you to write without getting stuck by focusing on one task at a time. So let’s start with the first stage – prepare. Before you write anything at all, you must prepare for it. This is because the reason we often struggle to write is that we don’t have enough ideas when we put pen to paper. So the most important task of writing is to come up with good points before you write. So this is the very first stage – before you write a single sentence, you’re going to collect ideas. And here’s how you do it: You take your paper and pen (or you can do this on your computer if you wish), and you note down anything that comes to mind. Don’t criticize your ideas – don’t leave out or discard anything. Whatever you get, write it down. Don’t worry about organizing your ideas – we’ll do that in the next stage. Also, don’t worry about grammar, spelling or punctuation – remember we just want ideas so if there are mistakes, no problem. And keep doing this until you have no more ideas. As an interesting note, this process of coming up with ideas is called brainstorming. OK, let’s look at an example of how to do this. Let’s say you’re in an English exam, and you have to write an email of complaint. Here’s your task: You recently purchased an item online, but you are not happy with it. Write an email of complaint to the manager of the shopping website: say what you bought, why you are not happy with it, and what action you expect them to take. So let’s start by collecting some ideas for this. So what kinds of things can we buy online? We can buy clothes, we can buy computers, phones, books and so on. Let’s think of some more specific ideas – I like computers, so let’s talk about them. You can buy a laptop. Actually, you can also buy computer parts like a monitor, a mouse or a keyboard. For this task, I’m going to go with a mouse because it’s easy. Now if I bought a mouse, what problems might I have with it? I think the most common one that people face is with one of the two buttons – let’s pick the right-click button, but you can also have trouble with the scroll wheel – that’s the wheel in the middle. So I bought a mouse and maybe just two days later, the right-click button started having problems. But I’m going to say that now it’s been a week and the button has just stopped working. You can see that I’m just using my imagination. I want to add some more details, so let’s say the scroll wheel is also having some problems. What problems can it have? Well, if I try to scroll in one direction, it actually makes the screen go the wrong way. So we have our problems now. But what do we want the shopping website to do? We can say give me my money back – that’s called a refund, or we could ask for a replacement. I like that idea. Now when they give me a new item, they will want the old one back. So I’ll have to return the defective unit. That means the mouse that’s not working. Alright, we are done collecting ideas. And here in just two minutes, we have all the information we need to write our email. Notice that as I was brainstorming, I came up with lots of ideas – I collected everything that came to mind without leaving anything out. And then I expanded on the important ideas. It can be very helpful to talk out loud during this stage like I was doing – try to have an imaginary conversation and you will find it easier to generate ideas. Also, it’s good to use paper and pen for this exercise rather than your computer.

For example "hour" then we use "an". We say "university" with a "y" sound at the beginning as though it were spelt "yniversity". Definite Article - "the" You use "the" when you know that the listener knows or can work out what particular person or thing you are talking about. We use "the" when we are talking about a specific person or thing, or if there is only one, or if it is clear which one we are talking about. You should also use "the" when you have already mentioned the thing you are talking about. We use "the" to talk about geographical points on the globe. We use "the" with plural names of people and places. We normally use "the" with buildings. For Example The White House, The Hilton Hotel. With school, university, prison, hospital, church, work and home we use "the" when we are talking about a particular or specific item, and no article when we are talking about the idea of school, university, prison, hospital, church, work and home. We use an article before the names of countries where they indicate multiple areas or contain nouns. State(s), kingdom, republic and union are nouns, so they need an article. For Example: Use "the" - the UK (United Kingdom), the USA (United States of America) For Example: Use "the" for multiple areas - the Netherlands, the Philippines, the British Isles. We use "the" with oceans, seas, rivers and canals. We use "the" with directions: north, south, east and west to talk about the location of a place within another place, but no article is used to compare the location of two places.  English Videos LInks Articles in English Grammar | use of articles in Hindi | use of a an the Use Rules & Examples https://youtu.be/E7DFI5lseRI Other Videos LInks Keyword hindi to English speaking practice, English grammar in Hindi language, learn English grammar, article, articles, learn English, learn English through Hindi, English grammar in Hindi, a the in Hindi, a an the, use of articles in Hindi, definite article, indefinite article, use of a and an, use of the, Use of Articles in English Grammar Exercises, use of articles in English, use of a an the articles in English, Articles in English Grammar, Articles A AN THE, How to use a an the in English grammar, how to use a an the in Hindi, use of a an the in English, use of a and an in English, artic ESL, Learn English, English lesson, English grammar, native speaker, vocabulary, conversation skills, IELTS, TOEFL, anglais, Englisch, inglês, engleză, إنجليزي, Angol, Learn English Lab, grammar, articles, a an the, how to use a an the, articles a an the, a vs an, a or an, how to use the, where to use the, where to use a an, uses of the, uses of a an, difference between a and an, articles in english grammar, english grammar articles, a an the articles in english A An The Articles in English, a an the, A An The Articles in English Grammar, articles a an the, articles in english grammar, use of articles, a an the ka use, how to use a an the, where to use a an, english articles,

How to develop your Communication Skills | International Keynote Speaker Simerjeet Singh on how to improve your communication skills | Law Of Paying The Price | Coach On Campus 8 | Tips For Effective Communication Skills International motivational speaker, Simerjeet Singh, brings out to us a very important aspect without which our life will become numb. COMMUNICATION is an art to express our feelings and emotions to others, but a successful person is a one who is able to communicate well. Simerjeet renders tips for effective communication skills by illustrating the LAW OF PAYING THE PRICE, where he emphasizes to put in the best efforts to receive the desired outcome. As the old saying goes, Communication Works For Those, Those Who Work At It! Continue to put in same efforts, the outcome too will continue to be the same. Therefore, change in efforts to change the outcome. Simerjeet also clarifies the misconception between developing effective communication skills and effective English speaking. I really hope you can help me. That's why I'm here. What can I do for you? I'm supposed to do a literature review for my psychology course, but I'm having a hard time finding articles. I don't even know where to start looking. You said this is for your psychology course, right? So your focus is on... Dream Interpretation. Well, you have a focus, so that's already a good start. Hmmm... well, there're a few things... oh wait... have you checked to see if your professor put any materials for you to look at on reserve? Aha, that's one thing I did know to do. I just copied an article, but I still need three more on my topic from three different journals. Let's get you going on looking for those then. We have printed versions of twenty or so psychology journals in the Reference Section. These are ones published within the last year. Now that I think about it... there's a journal named Sleep and Dreams. Oh, yeah, the article I just copied is from that journal, so I've got to look at other sources. Ok, actually, most of our materials are available electronically now. You can access psychology databases or electronic journals and articles through the library's computers. And if you want to search by title with the word "dream" for example, just type it in and all the articles with 'dream' in the title will come up on the screen. Cool, that's great! Too bad i can't do this from home. But you can. All of the library's databases and electronic sources can be accessed through any computer connected to the university network. Really?! I can't believe I didn't know that. It still sounds like it's gonna take a while though, you know, going through all of that information, all of those sources. Maybe, but you already narrowed your search down to articles on Dream Interpretation, so it shouldn't be too bad. And you probably notice that there's an abstract or summary at the top of the first page of the article you copied. When you go into the databases and electronic sources, you have the option to display the abstracts on the computer screen, skimming those to decide whether or not you want to read the whole article should cut down some time. Right, abstracts! They'll definitely make the project more doable. I guess I should try out the electronic search while I'm still here then, you know, just in case. Sure, er... that computer is free over there, and I'll be here till five this afternoon. Thanks, I feel a lot better about this assignment now.
