Ben Goertzel:From Here to Human-Level AGI in 4 Simple Steps

01:06:12
Talk at Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics (https://www.ciirc.cvut.cz/) on May 21st, 2018 Abstract: AI technology has entered the mainstream of business and society, but there is still a large gap between the current crop of task-specific „narrow AI“ tools and the Artificial General Intelligences (AGIs) envisioned by futurists and SF authors. To get from here to true AGI will require advances in (at least) four different aspects. First, it will require coordination of different AI agents at various levels of specificity into an overall complex, adaptive AI network — which is the problem addressed by the SingularityNET blockchain-based AI framework. Second, it will require bridging of the algorithms used for low-level intelligence such as perception and movement (e.g. deep neural networks) with the algorithms used for high-level abstract reasoning (such as logic engines). Third, it will require embedding of AI systems in physical systems capable of interacting with the everyday human world in richly nuanced ways — such as the humanoid robots being developed at Hanson Robotics. Fourth, it will require the development of more sophisticated methods of guiding abstract reasoning algorithms based on history and context (an area lying at the intersection of AGI and automated theorem proving). Fortunately, while none of them are actually simple, all of these aspects of the AGI problem are topics of active research by outstanding teams around the world, making it plausible that AGI at the human level and beyond will be achieved during our lifetimes. Bio: Dr. Ben Goertzel is one of the world’s foremost experts in Artificial General Intelligence, a subfield of AI oriented toward creating thinking machines with general cognitive capability at the human level and beyond. He also has decades of expertise applying AI to practical problems in areas ranging from natural language processing and data mining to robotics, video gaming, national security and bioinformatics. He has published nearly 20 scientific books and 140+ scientific research papers, and is the main architect and designer of the OpenCog system and associated design for human-level general intelligence. Ben is the CEO of SingularityNET (a blockchain based AI platform company), and the Chief Scientist of Hanson Robotics, a robotics company that creates the world’s most advanced humanoid robots. Ben also serves as Chairman of the Artificial General Intelligence Society, which hosts the annual AGI research conference series, and the OpenCog Foundation. Before relocating to Hong Kong in 2011, Dr. Goertzel held executive roles at AI consulting and product development firms in Washington DC (CEO, Chairman and Chief Scientist at Novamente LLC and Biomind LLC) and New York City (CTO at Webmind Inc.). Prior to that, he served as faculty in mathematics at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, in cognitive science as the University of Western Australia, and in computer science at Waikato University in New Zealand, at the City University of New York and at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Dr. Goertzel holds a PhD degree in mathematics from Temple University in Philadelphia, USA.

Lyon Data Science : Place de R et Python dans les formations en Data Science.

01:34:32

SIGIR 2018: Turning Clicks into Purchases: Revenue Optimization for Product Search in E-Commerce

21:07
The 41st International ACM SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval Ann Arbor Michigan, U.S.A. July 8-12, 2018 Title: Turning Clicks into Purchases: Revenue Optimization for Product Search in E-Commerce Abstract: In recent years, product search engines have emerged as a key factor for online businesses. According to a recent survey, over 55% of online customers begin their online shopping journey by searching on an E-Commerce (EC) website like Amazon as opposed to a generic web search engine like Google. Information retrieval research to date has been focused on optimizing search ranking algorithms for web documents while little attention has been paid to product search. There are several intrinsic differences between web search and product search that make the direct application of traditional search ranking algorithms to EC search platforms difficult. First, the success of web and product search is measured differently; one seeks to optimize for relevance while the other must optimize for both relevance and revenue. Second, when using real-world EC transaction data, there is no access to manually annotated labels. In this paper, we address these differences with a novel learning framework for EC product search called LETORIF (LEarning TO Rank with Implicit Feedback). In this framework, we utilize implicit user feedback signals (such as user clicks and purchases) and jointly model the different stages of the shopping journey to optimize for EC sales revenue. We conduct experiments on real-world EC transaction data and introduce a a new evaluation metric to estimate expected revenue after re-ranking. Experimental results show that LETORIF outperforms top competitors in improving purchase rates and total revenue earned. For the first time, Model 3 production (28,578) exceeded combined Model S and X production (24,761), and we produced almost three times the amount of Model 3s than we did in Q1. Our Model 3 weekly production rate also more than doubled during the quarter, and we did so without compromising quality. GA4, our new General Assembly line for Model 3, was responsible for roughly 20% of Model 3s produced last week, with quality from that line being as good as our regular GA3 line. We expect that GA3 alone can reach a production rate of 5,000 Model 3s per week soon, but GA4 helped to get us there faster and will also help to exceed that rate. Tesla expects to increase production to 6,000 Model 3s per week by late next month. We also reaffirm our guidance for positive GAAP net income and cash flow in Q3 and Q4, despite negative pressures from a weaker USD and likely higher tariffs for vehicles imported into China as well as components procured from China. Q2 deliveries totaled 40,740 vehicles, of which 18,440 were Model 3, 10,930 were Model S, and 11,370 were Model X. Model S and X deliveries are in line with our guidance provided on May 3. As we previously noted, we are in the process of changing the quarterly production pattern of those vehicles for the various worldwide regions to ensure a more linear flow of deliveries through the quarter. Both orders and deliveries for Model S and X were higher in Q2 than a year ago. Our overall target for 100,000 Model S and Model X deliveries in 2018 is unchanged. 11,166 Model 3 vehicles and 3,892 Model S and X vehicles were in transit to customers at the end of Q2, and will be delivered in early Q3. The high number of customer vehicles in transit for Model 3 was primarily due to a significant increase in production towards the end of the quarter. The remaining net Model 3 reservations count at the end of Q2 still stood at roughly 420,000 even though we have now delivered 28,386 Model 3 vehicles to date. When we start to provide customers an opportunity to see and test drive the car at their local store, we expect that our orders will grow faster than our production rate. Model 3 Dual Motor All Wheel Drive and Model 3 Dual Motor All Wheel Drive Performance cars will also be available in our stores shortly. The last 12 months were some of the most difficult in Tesla’s history, and we are incredibly proud of the whole Tesla team for achieving the 5,000 unit Model 3 production rate. It was not easy, but it was definitely worth it. Our delivery count should be viewed as slightly conservative, as we only count a car as delivered if it is transferred to the customer and all paperwork is correct. Final numbers could vary by up to 0.5%. Tesla vehicle deliveries represent only one measure of the company’s financial performance and should not be relied on as an indicator of quarterly financial results, which depend on a variety of factors, including the cost of sales, foreign exchange movements and mix of directly leased vehicles. Forward-Looking Statements Certain statements herein, including statements regarding future production and delivery of Model S, Model X and Model 3, expected cash flow and net income results, and growth in demand for our vehicles, are “forward-looking statements” that are subject to risks and uncertainties. These forward-looking statements are based on management’s current expectations. Various important factors could cause actual results to differ materially, including the risks identified in our SEC filings. Dr. Michael Gashler: Machine Learning for Non-Traditional Challenges | Nowhere Developers 2018

28:57
Watch University of Arkansas Professor, Dr. Michael Gashler and his full talk Nowhere Developers Conference 2018, titled "Using Neural Networks to Solve Non-Traditional Challenges". Abstract: It is well understood that deep neural networks can be highly effective function approximators, but it is less well known that function approximation is not the only thing they can do. Neural networks can also infer missing values in data, generate anticipated observations, estimate state in dynamic systems, remove noise from inputs, reduce dimensionality, and fuse information from different modalities. Applying neural networks in such atypical ways requires the user to have a little knowledge about how they work internally. This talk seeks to impart a little intuition for what happens inside a neural network, and will demonstrate how neural networks can be used in applications that require a more than just function approximation. The goal of this talk will be to enable the attendees to make more effective use of neural networks in non-traditional applications. Speaker Bio: Michael S. Gashler studies in the field of machine learning. His research interests focus on methods that enable machines to perceive and understand high-dimensional observations, and to operate effectively in circumstances that were not anticipated a priori by the programmer. Dr. Gashler earned his Ph.D. in machine learning with a focus in non-linear dimensionality reduction from Brigham Young University in 2012. Prior to his graduate studies, he worked for Microsoft where he helped to develop the security system underlying the Common Language Runtime. He is the architect of several open source projects, including "Waffles", a toolkit of machine learning and data mining algorithms. He taught himself to program when he was young by trying to build the video games that his parents did not give to him. He now hopes to inspire students to build technology that science has not yet given to us. In particular, his lab intents to narrow the gap between the cognitive capabilities of humans and machines. About the Conference: Nowhere Developers Conference 2018 brought together hundreds of developers and engineers from across the U.S. for a one-day, pure tech conference in Bentonville, AR on March 15. With a mission of showcasing the incredible development and engineering talent in middle America, the conference featured local, regional, and national speakers from companies like Google, Mozilla, Mailchimp, and Walmart speaking about the state of the industry, software engineering, emerging technology such as machine learning and cryptocurrency, and the region's growing technology ecosystem. SHIELD deep learning defense video demo

Watch the overview video of our SHIELD KDD'18 paper at https://youtu.be/zUB2-i7rSb4 SHIELD code: https://github.com/poloclub/jpeg-defense Paper PDF: https://arxiv.org/abs/1802.06816 Visit our research group homepage Polo Club of Data Science (https://poloclub.github.io/) at Georgia Tech for more related research! The rapidly growing body of research in adversarial machine learning has demonstrated that deep neural networks (DNNs) are highly vulnerable to adversarially generated images. This underscores the urgent need for practical defense that can be readily deployed to combat attacks in real-time. Observing that many attack strategies aim to perturb image pixels in ways that are visually imperceptible, we place JPEG compression at the core of our proposed Shield defense framework, utilizing its capability to effectively "compress away" such pixel manipulation. To immunize a DNN model from artifacts introduced by compression, Shield "vaccinates" a model by re-training it with compressed images, where different compression levels are applied to generate multiple vaccinated models that are ultimately used together in an ensemble defense. On top of that, Shield adds an additional layer of protection by employing randomization at test time that compresses different regions of an image using random compression levels, making it harder for an adversary to estimate the transformation performed. This novel combination of vaccination, ensembling, and randomization makes Shield a fortified multi-pronged protection. We conducted extensive, large-scale experiments using the ImageNet dataset, and show that our approaches eliminate up to 94% of black-box attacks and 98% of gray-box attacks delivered by the recent, strongest attacks, such as Carlini-Wagner's L2 and DeepFool. Our approaches are fast and work without requiring knowledge about the model. SHIELD: Fast, Practical Defense and Vaccination for Deep Learning using JPEG Compression.
