Last Witness to President Abraham Lincoln Assassination I've Got A Secret

07:18
Mr. Samuel J. Seymour, the last living eyewitness to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. was the mystery guest on the February 8, 1956 episode of the I've Got a Secret game show. Mr. Seymour (March 28, 1860 – April 12, 1956) was actually 95 years of age at the time of this appearance instead of 96. Host: Garry Moore Panelists from left to right: Bill Cullen, Jayne Meadows, Henry Morgan, Lucile Ball I realize that clips from this show are available elsewhere on YouTube, but I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to put it on my channel and share it with those of you who may not have already seen it. I have also added an excerpt of the article mentioned to the end of the video which sheds a little more light on Mr. Seymour's horrifying experience. Here is the link to the article, "I Saw Lincoln Shot" by/about Mr. Seymour mentioned in the video: https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=wHUxAAAAIBAJ&sjid=SBAEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5624%2C3979599 Public domain footage. Battle of Iwo Jima US Marines In Heavy Combat WW2 Footage with Sound

06:28
Marines engaged in desperate fighting action during the World War Two battle of Iwo Jima from February and March of 1945. This is a compilation of three pieces of footage showing combat operations from the U.S. Army Signal Corps Combat Bulletins number 47, 48 and 49. ( with sound and narration ) The first segment shows combat during the assault on Motayama Airfield #2. The second shows various scenes on the island including unloading supplies on the beach, the taking of 3 Japanese prisoners, taking care of the wounded and a gun emplacement. The third sequence shows "Mop up operations on Iwo" according to the narrator, and it appears to be the fighting on the northern part of the island. There is a scene where some marines are placing a charge on a "blockhouse" and the film immediately cuts to the charge exploding presumably while the marines are still standing there. This is an edit done by the Signal Corps people and not me. If you look closely, the position of the tank slit that the camera is shooting through changes abruptly between shots indicating that the original film was cut and spliced together. Without any further evidence, we can only hope those men got to cover & made it home alive after the war. Thanks for watching and please like, comment, share and Subscribe! Corregidor Philippine Islands Paratroopers Jump From 500 Feet Infantry Hits the Beach 16 Feb 1945

08:44
Paratroopers from the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment jump from C47s flying at altitudes of 500-600 feet to begin the recapture of the island of Corregidor on 16 February 1945 in this footage from World War 2. The paratroopers land on the golf course and parade ground near the barracks and headquarters buildings destroyed by the invading Japanese forces when they captured the island in 1942. This was a combined airborne and amphibious operation and footage of the landing at San Jose Beach by elements of the 34th Infantry is included at the end of the clip. Because of the small drop zones, the paratroopers were dropped 8 at a time in each of the three runs made by the 51 C47s taking part in this operation. The narrator states that 2500 men were dropped in this operation, but only a total of a little over 2000 men were dropped in two operations. From what I have been able to find, approximately 1000 men were dropped in this operation. In spite of what the narrator says, the dazed Japanese quickly rallied and fought a pitched battle with the paratroopers on "Topside" later in the day. More footage of the 503rd PIR's action on Corregidor can be found in this video that I had posted a while ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aAtFzqCbLo Additionally, a good jumping off point for further information on the Battle of Corregidor can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Corregidor_(1945) Here is a clip from that article about the casualties suffered during this battle that lasted from 16-26 February 1945: "The perfectly coordinated triphibious American assault to recapture Corregidor left the 503rd PRCT with 169 dead and 531 wounded. The 34th Infantry Regiment suffered 38 killed and 153 wounded. Of the 2,065 men of both lifts by the 503rd PRCT, about 280 were killed or severely injured. Three men suffered parachute malfunctions, and two men who collided with buildings died. Eight men were killed either in the air or before they were able to get free of their chutes, a further 50 were wounded in the air or upon landing. Several men were missing in action at the drop. The total injuries (not by wounding) on the drop were 210. Japanese sources have estimated that there were about 6,700 Japanese on the island when the 503rd PRCT and 34th Infantry landed, of which only 50 survived. Another 19 were taken prisoner, and 20 Japanese stragglers surfaced after the war on 1 January 1946." Soldiers of the 38th Division go ashore on the southern tip of the Bataan Peninsula at Mariveles Harbor on the Philippine island of Luzon. This action on February 15, 1945, silenced the big guns that covered an approach to the island of Corregidor and paved the way for the landings that would take place there on the following day. Iwo Jima Additional US Navy Footage of Marines in Action WW2 Combat Enemy in View

03:10
Landing of 3rd Division Marines and tank slit views of action on the front lines of Iwo Jima are highlighted in this US Navy footage from the desperate battle for this Pacific Island. Elements of the USMC's Third Division landed on 22 February 1945 to reinforce the 4th and 5th Marine Divisions already on the island. Quite a bit of footage taken through a slit in the turret of a tank near the front lines including an amazing scene in which a Japanese soldier pops up out of a cave and runs for cover. More footage from Iwo Jima can be seen in these other videos that I have posted previously: "Battle of Iwo Jima US Marines In Heavy Combat WW2 Footage with Sound" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rieXqfzBLJk "Iwo Jima US Marines in Desperate Battle Get Close Air & Naval Support WW2 Combat Footage" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiPWbUd_0x4 Public domain footage from Combat Bulletin No. 45 produced by the US Army Signal Corps' Army Pictorial Service. Burma / Myanmar Mandalay Captured Fort Dufferin Siege and Fall March 1945 Footage

05:09
Fort Dufferin in Mandalay, Burma falls to British and Indian troops on March 20, 1945 following a 12 day siege. Includes footage of low level attacks by B25s using 2000 lb. demolition bombs with delayed action fuses. I have combined footage from two Bulletins for this one so there is a little repetition, but not too much. Most of the action is in the second part when they throw just about everything at the thick walls in an effort to breach them. Surrounded by four massive 2km long walls and a 210 foot wide moat situated 60 feet beyond them, Mandalay Palace (renamed Fort Dufferin by the British) was a formidable obstacle to the capture of Mandalay. More information can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandalay_Palace along with a map of the fortress here: http://www.2ndroyalberkshire.co.uk/images/ww2/map_mandalay.jpg Public domain footage from Combat Bulletin Nos. 48 and 50 produced by the US Army Signal Corps' Army Pictorial Service. German Counterattack Near St. Lo Captured Film 1944 WW2 Combat Footage with Sound

04:17
German Counterattack Near St. Lo Captured Film 1944 WW2 with sound. Action packed clip from a German propaganda film depicting an alleged counterattack east of Saint Lo on July 17-18, 1944. There is a little bit of everything in this one with Panzers in action, mortars, rockets, an Allied air raid on the St. Lo airfield and German AAA shooting down a US fighter as well as a downed B-25. The narrator points out that the Germans have inserted a scene of destroyed British equipment when there were no British ground forces in the area. An interesting clip of some of the fighting in France following the D-Day invasion from the German perspective. Thanks for watching and please like, comment, share and Subscribe!
